John 1 : 1-3 (NKJV)
1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made.
Do You Know My Jesus?
As a senior in HS, I remember talking to the preacher at my church
In discussing Jesus from the gospels, I remember something he said that day; it has stayed with me over the years
“Most people wouldn’t know Jesus if He walked up to them on the street…”
Do You Know My Jesus?
The longer I live and the more I hear, the more I realize that is true
I hear people say that Jesus loves and accepts people in their sin (Lk. 13:3; Matt. 7:21-23)
I hear people that say Jesus would never turn anyone away (Jn. 6:67; Matt. 25:41)
Do You Know My Jesus?
Much of the religious world lives in ignorance of God’s word
Many come up with their own image of God that does not come from a knowledge of His word
We come to know Jesus through His word
Do You Know My Jesus?
The question is, do we know Jesus?
We often sing a song called “Do You Know My Jesus?”
We will begin a series of lessons that are intended to help us “know Jesus”
Let us “see Jesus” (Jn. 12:21)
Do You Know My Jesus?
1. In the beginning…
When we hear the name Jesus, most of us immediately think of God in the flesh
We perhaps think of His birth, His ministry, His death on the cross, or His resurrection
Do we think of Jesus from the beginning?
Do You Know My Jesus?
1. In the beginning…
Jesus made a statement about Himself several times in the book of Revelation
“I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End” (1:8)
“I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last” (1:11)
Do You Know My Jesus?
1. In the beginning…
So Jesus was there all along?
We certainly do see Jesus all along, especially in the very beginning starting with creation
John 1:1-3 – Jesus = Word (v. 14)
We think of Jesus when He became flesh
Do You Know My Jesus?
1. In the beginning…
“In the beginning was the Word (Jesus)…”(v. 1)
“He (Jesus) was in the beginning with God” (v. 2)
From the very beginning, we see that Jesus (Word) was there
Do You Know My Jesus?
2. He created…
Jesus wasn’t just there in the beginning, He was active in creation
“All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made…He was in the world, and the world was made through Him, and the world did not know Him.” (Jn. 1:3, 10)
Do You Know My Jesus?
2. He created…Isn’t it amazing to think that the very
creator of the world came in the flesh to live among us!
He has truly seen every side of creation, living among those He created (Heb. 4:15)
God created all things through Jesus Christ (Eph. 3:9)
Do You Know My Jesus?
2. He created…
“For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him.” (Col. 1:16)
There is the “Us” of Genesis 1:26
Do You Know My Jesus?
2. He created…
Hebrews 1:2 shows us both God and His Son and that the worlds were made through Christ
God Himself testified that Christ was active in creation in Hebrews 1:10
It’s important to see Jesus from this view
Do You Know My Jesus?
3. He sustains creation…Not only did Christ have the power
to create, but He also continues to have power over creation
Nehemiah 9:5-6 – The Lord preserves all of creation
Jesus and Peter walked on the sea (Matt. 14:25, 29, 32-33)
Do You Know My Jesus?
3. He sustains creation…Jesus rebuked the winds and the sea,
and they obeyed His voice (Matt. 8:23-27; Mk. 4:35-41)
Jesus again walked on the sea and calmed the winds and the waves (Mk. 6:45-51)
He who created these things also has power over them
Do You Know My Jesus?
4. More evidence…We also see more clues of Jesus
presence and power in creation through what Jesus said in the gospels
Jesus validated the creation account in Matthew 19:4-5 (See Gen. 1:27; 2:24)
Jesus knew that everything reproduced after it’s kind (Matt. 7:16, 18; Gen. 1)
