Jesus had a cousin named John.John was a little unusual.

John ate locusts. Locusts are

kind of like grasshoppers, andhe ate honey.

John wore clothes made out of camels hair. There were

probably itchy and scratchy andnot fun to wear.

But John had a mission fromGod.

Johns mission was to tell people about the Messiah and toget them ready for Him.

He told people to stop sinning,and to repent. Which is another way of saying, stop doing badthings and to change whatyoure doing.

When people repented, hewould take them down to thewater to be baptized.

Baptism is a big deal. Its oneway to let people know youagree with God that you need tochange what youre doing and

be saved by Him.

John would tell the Phariseeswhat they did wrong.

When they came out to hear him because thats whateveryone was doing he wouldsay, You Snakes! Who toldyou to come out here?

This made the Pharisees verymad, but they were afraid to doanything because they didntwant to make the people mad.

One day Jesus came out to be baptized by John.

John objected, But you should

be baptizing me, I am notworthy to baptize you.

Jesus answered him, I do this because it is what God wants.

So, John agreed to baptizeJesus.

As he baptized Him a light

shone down from heaven, and adove descended.

And a voice was heard, This isMy Son, who I love, in Him Iam well pleased. God wassaying He is proud of Jesus andloves Him.
