20 Engine 25-2 Timing Gear Train
Fig. 2-lnstalling Front Oil Seal
To install new front crankshaft oil seal in timing gear cover, coat outer surface of seal with joint sealing compound. Support the oil seal bore area of the timing gear cover. Use J0250 tool to install oil seal (Fig. 2). Seal should bottom in the bore and the spring-loaded lip of the seal should face inward.
ASSEMBLY AND INSTALLATION
NOTE: If engine has been completely disassembled, install crankshaft before installing front plate. Tighten cap screws to specified torque.
1. I nstall camshaft, fuel injection pump and drive gear (diesel) or governor (gasoline). Refer to Section 30 for the proper method of installing injection pump drive shaft and gear.
2. Install oil pump assembly, but do not tighten oil pump drive gear until other gears have been installed.
3. Turn engine until No.1 piston is on "TOG" of the compression stroke. Install timing pin. 00 not rotate crankshaft after "TOG" is established.

Recheck timing using JD254 Tool.
Remove timing pin.
6. I nstall inner upper idler gear thrust washer and upper idler gear. Use care not to rotate the camshaft or injection pump gears. I nstall outer thrust washer. lock plate. plain washer and cap screw. Be sure that holes in thrust washers fit over idler gear shaft spring pin. Tighten cap screw to specified torque.
Position oil slinger over crankshaft with inside diameter against crankshaft gear.
7. Install inner lower idler gear thrust washer and lower idler gear. Use care not to rotate the oil pump drive gear. Install outer thrust washer. lock plate. plain washer and cap screw. Be sure that holes in thrust washer fit over idler gear spring pin. Tighten idler gear and oil pump drive gear cap screws to specified torque.
Apply a thin coat of high temperature grease to the inside lips of the front oil seal and install timing gear cover. Tighten cap screws to specified torque.
Reverse removal procedure.

Assembly
Position transmission clutch disk in flywheel, long hub down. Insert the three operating bolts in clutch plate and install clutch plate in flywheel. Be sure that operating bolt heads are properly seated in the recesses in the clutch plate.
Install clutch springs and PTO clutch plate. Be sure that all springs are properly seated in their respective retainers. The six inner springs are installed in the retainers where there are two retainer holes close together (1200 apart).
Position PTO clutch disk with long hub upward. Position clutch cover assembly on flywheel. Be sure that clutch operating bolts are properly aligned with holes in cover.

Insert JOE-52-1 Centering Tool into clutch assembly to align PTO clutch disk and transmission clutch disk with flywheel pilot bearing (Fig. 11).
With JOE-52-1 Centering Tool in clutch assembly, install jack screws in equally spaced holes (Fig. 11), and tighten jack screw nuts evenly to compress clutch springs.
Insert PTO clutch release pins in clutch cover. Install operating levers with springs. Install jam nuts on operating bolts and screw them down.

Tractor - 1520 TM-1012 (Apr-75)
Loosen the jam nuts on the clutch operating bolts until each lever just contacts its PTO clutch release pin.
Tighten each operating bolt nut exactly 2-112 turns and lock the jam nut.
Remove the jack screws and carefully withdraw the clutch pack assembly and transmission clutch disk from the flywheel.
Installation
A-Clutch Assembly B-Flywheel
C-Transmission Clutch Disk (Long Hub to front)
Fig. 12-lnstalling Clutch Assembly
Install flywheel (B, Fig. 12) on crankshaft and tighten cap screws to 85 ft-Ibs.
Position clutch pack assembly (A, Fig. 12) and transmission clutch disk (C) (long hub to front) on end of JOE-52 Centering Tool to maintain clutch disk alignment. Insert end of centering tool in flywheel pilot bearing and slide clutch pack assembly in place. Tighten attaching cap screw to 35 ft-Ibs.
Check that the throw-out bearing contact areas of the operating levers are the same height (within 0.020 inch). If necessary, make minor adjustments of the two farthest apart levers to bring them all into the same plane.
Join engine to clutch housing as instructed in Section 10, Group 25.
