RUGBY 2017 The last games were played at the start of the school holidays and the results unfortunately did not go JPC's way. The U14 WHHS/JPC combined team were beaten by Tauhara. The U15's played TBHS 2nd and the game was a closely fought affair that was called off before the final whistle due to an injury. Luckily the player that suffered the injury is due to come back and play shortly. The final score was 20 -17 to TBHS. The 2nd XV did not play as we did not have enough players. We are hoping that after the holidays we will be able to manage this better. The 1st XV travelled to Bethlehem for a match that if they won would put them in semi final contention. Bethlehem had obviously had a swarm of bees for breakfast as they come out buzzing and took the lead early. They then continued their passionate start to bump out to a 14 - 0 lead which had the JPC boys on the back foot. JPC replied with a try before half time to take the half time score to 14 - 7. The second half was a difficult affair with lots of intriguing decisions by the referee that left JPC on the back foot, however the managed to fight back and take the lead 19 - 17 with another two tries and a penalty. The game was tense going into the final minutes when Bethlehem were awarded a penalty close to half way but out in front. They managed to slot this to take the lead 20 - 19. Bethlehem were fading fast and whenever JPC got on the front foot the referee seemed to disagree. The last play of the game saw JPC running the ball from their goal line only to lose the ball in contact after making it to the half way. This was the final act of the game. Not the result we were looking for, however it leaves us sitting 3rd on the table with 2 tough games remaining. This week's encounter is against the table topping WHHS. The game should be a great contest. Come along and show your support. This weekend sees the following games U14 Tga Boys Stripes Vs JPC/Western Heights will now be played at 9:15 and NOT 10:30am U15 Mt Maunganui Vs John Paul College 10.30am @ Mt Maunganui 2nd XV REP/JPC Vs Bye 1st XV John Paul College Vs Western Heights Midday @ Rotorua Lakes High School REPRESENTATIVE We must congratulate the following boys for making the training squad for the BOPRU U16's: Haydn Benge, Nick Briggs, Patrick Gillam and Patrick Humphrey And the following boys for making the U18's BOPRU training squad: Cole Fahy, Damon Morgan, Hamish Dykstra, Ethan Graham, Connor Humphries, Byron Haigh and Alec Johnson These players attended 2 day camps during the holidays for selection the respective age group teams.
