The evaluation results announced on the day showed the programme had a dramatic impact on children’s IQ, obesity levels and social behaviour, as well as parenting skills and the home learning environment. From 2008 to 2015, over 200 families in Dublin 5 and 17 took part in the ran- dom control trial study to evaluate the impact of the home visiting programme on child development and school readiness. The evaluation showed that by age four the IQ scores of children who received the home visiting programme were 10 points higher than the control group. Just 13% of children who received the programme scored below average for cognitive development at age four compared to 57% of the control group. The children whose parents received the intervention were also less likely to be overweight (23% compared to 41%) and had fewer behavioural problems (2% compared to 17%). Further findings show that intervention children were more likely to receive their recommend- ed dietary allowance of protein (33% compared to 23%) and were immunised earlier. On 31st August, UCD will host an academic conference, “Preparing for Life - The Results” from 9am to 3.30pm. On 6th September, Preparing for Life will host a community celebration event for all of the families and community partners who supported the project. A Night of Music and Dancing at the Mansion House! The Lord Mayor of Dublin Críona Ní Dhálaigh, invited the community of Darndale to spend an evening with her in the Round Room of the Mansion House on Friday 17th June 2016. The evening was packed with entertainment, starting with a brilliant performance from local ukelele group, made up of participants from the RASP Rehabilitation Programme, ‘The Ukes of Hazard’. There was also a fantastic dance perfor-mance from ‘Samba Dance Brazil’, who were dressed in beau-tiful authentic Samba costumes. Their performance consisted of traditional Brazilian Samba Dancing and some capoeira. The group took a short break and came back to interact and get the entire audience involved in their act. The evening was

a great success and it also provided an opportunity for local organisations and residents to meet in a fun and lively at-mosphere. On behalf of the entire community, we would like to extend our thanks to Lord Mayor Críona Ní Dhálaigh for her invitation and for hosting such a great event. More photos of the evening can be found on Darndale Belcamp Village Centre’s Facebook page.

Community Bring a Brush Day! On Friday 12th August 2016 at 10am, Darndale Belcamp Village Centre, in partnership with Ingersoll Rand, will hold a community “Bring a Brush Day” on The Link Road. The day will con-sist of a full clean up of The Link Road (weeding, strimming, edg-ing) and putting a fresh coat of paint on the walls facing the road. We would like to encourage the whole community to get involved on the day, we will provide the paint and some brushes and roll-ers, all we ask you to bring is a paint brush or sweeping brush if you have one and yourself! There will be plenty for everyone to do and we will also provide music and refreshments for everyone.

We also promise there will be a great atmos-phere! So, find your community spirit and come over and give us a helping hand on the day. Remember, many hands make light work! For more information contact us on (01) 8771600.

Bell Centre Art Gallery Official OpeningThe Bell Centre Art Gallery was officially opened at the beginning of Arts Week 2016 on 25th March, by Lord Mayor of Dublin, Críona Ní Dhálaigh. The launch was a great suc-cess for the whole community and gave the Village Centre the opportunity to open our doors to many fantastic local artists and art enthusiasts. The gallery, which is the only one on the north side of Dublin, has become so popular that we have had to suspend hanging any further work for 6 months. We will be able to accept more work from artists in September 2016, so if you, or anyone you know is interest-ed in displaying some artwork, please contact us and we will take your details. Meanwhile, you are very welcome to come and visit the gallery and see the work we currently have on display. A lot of the pieces we have on exhibition at the moment are for sale. If you would be interested in purchasing a particular piece, please contact us or ask at the main reception in the Bell Building for more information.
