World Missions Christmas Offering
Our Church Goal : $18,000.00
In the Great Commission we are told to go, "unto all the World." Most of us cannot go in person, but
we can go in spirit, through our prayers and financial support. At this time of year we especially think
of our international missionaries. They are becoming more and more dependent on our gifts to the
Lottie Moon Offering, and the Global Missions Offering.
You may contribute to the SBC Lottie Moon Offering or the CBF Global Missions Offering. Please
specify to which offering you are giving.

As Joshua and I have been praying and searching for the best measuring stick to help guide our energies
and resources. As we have been working through 2 Corinthians over the last several weeks God has re-
vealed our goal to us. Over the coming year, the deciding factor will be questioning whether the event,
mission, outreach, message, etc, works to reconcile the community and the church or not.
2 Corinthians 5:17-20 will be our platform on which we stand, and reconciliation will be our motivating
and proclaiming factor. As we all make decisions on where to use our energies and resources, let’s ask
ourselves if it is to reconcile the world to God, or to build a stronger self-fulfilling kingdom.
This may take more work. This may take more planning. This may take more prayer. But I believe we are
all up to the task!
Attention All Committee Members
In an effort to help our committees work as efficiently as possible, we are asking each of our current 2018
committee chairs to call a meeting of the 2019 members of your committee. These meetings will be for
the purpose of to electing officers for the coming year, and selecting a regular meeting time for 2019.
Our newly elected 2019 Committee Chairs are responsible for turning in the names of their committee
officers and meeting times for 2019. This information should be given to the church office no later than
January 10, 2019.
We appreciate all our committees for the work they have done in 2018. Thank you to all those who have
agreed to serve in 2019. We look forward to serving with you!
Called Business Meeting
There will be a called business meeting on Sunday,
December 16, immediately following our 11:00 Wor-
ship Service. We will vote on the 2019 proposed
budget. We will elect our 2019 Deacons, approve ad-
ditional 2019 Committee Nominees, and consider the
following motion from the Constitution Committee.
Constitution Committee Recommendation
The Constitution Committee recommends amend-
ing Article V of the Articles of Incorporation of The
First Baptist Church of Burlington, May 11, 1981,
to read: The directors of the corporation shall be
elected by members in the manner provided in the
By-laws and shall be known as the Board of Dea-
cons.
It currently reads: The directors of the corporation
shall be elected by members in the manner provid-
ed in the By-laws.
The reason for the proposed amendment is two-
fold. There is no mention of Deacons in The Arti-
cles of Incorporation. There is no mention of Direc-
tors in the Church Constitution. The proposed
amendment to the Articles of Incorporation would
provide clarity in defining the position of Deacon.
If the proposed amendment is adopted by the con-
gregation, Form N-02 and $25.00 will need to be
sent to the NC Department of the Secretary of
State to register the change.
Our Sympathy The ministers, staff, and members of
First Baptist express our sympathy to
Family and friends in the loss of Charles Gilliam
2019 Budget Discussions Our 2019 Proposed Budget Discussions will begin
on Wednesday 11/28. A second discussion will be
held on Wednesday 12/5. If a third discussion is
needed, it will be held on Wednesday, 12/12. Dis-
cussions will take place at 6:15 in the Fellowship
Hall. We will vote on the proposed budget in a
called business meeting on Sunday, December 16,
immediately following the 11:00 Worship Service.
