Overview

In this lesson we will take a look at the country of Spain. As Puerto Ricans we have Spanish roots and it would be interesting to learn some things from our cultural background. This will be a history lesson for secondary level students concerning the country of Spain.

IntroductionIf you did not know, Puerto Rico was discovered in 1493 by Spain and was Spanish property until 1898. We were named by the Spaniards and a great part of our development was done while being Spanish lead. In 1898 there was the Spanish-American War and Puerto Rico became property of the Americans. So this raises a question. Do we really know our roots?

Process

Students will research the Spanish culture and compare it to the Puerto Rican culture. They should all answer the task question besides their group question. Each group will consist of three to four members and will present their information in a PowerPoint presentation. A group project will be handed in to the teacher. It includes a *cover page, *table of contents, *introduction, *body, and a *conclusion.
