West House is delighted to be hos>ng Montgomery Fellow and acclaimed author Zia Haider Rahman fordinner and a discussion on Tuesday, February 18 at 6pm at the House Professor’s Residence. Zia is the authorof the cri>cally acclaimed novel, In the Light of What We Know, which won the pres>gious James Tait BlackPrize, Britain's oldest literary prize. Zia was born in a Bangladeshi village and moved to England with hisfamily, living first in a squat before being allocated project housing in inner London. Zia studied at BalliolCollege, Oxford, and at Cambridge and Yale universi>es. AZer a short s>nt as an investment banker atGoldman, Sachs, he spent several years as a financial services lawyer, an>-corrup>on ac>vist andinterna>onal human rights lawyer. He is currently at work on a memoir, Among the Liberals, exploring thefailings of elites from the perspec>ve of a liberal of working class background. Our next West House Lunch will be THIS THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 20 from 12 to 1pm inthe Paganucci Lounge in ’53 Commons. This is a great chance to get to know members ofthe House from across the College, and even enjoy a free lunch! If you’re an undergrad, this is a niceopportunity to meet grad students, faculty, and staff and learn more about the broader college anddifferent interests and careers. All West House students, faculty, staff, and community members are welcome. West House IM basketball ended up third in the House compe>>on, missing out due to forfeit against SchoolHouse in the semi-finals but then defea>ng Allen House 33-19 in the third-place game. Congrats to SouthHouse for winning the compe>>on and to the West House team on a strong season! - West House ExecuPve Board The West House student Exec Board plans and organizes many of our wide range of House ac>vi>es. Beingac>ve on the Exec is a great way to get to meet Wes>ans and shape your residen>al community! We have asubstan>al budget for House programming and how best to use it is up to you! Mee>ngs are usually on Sunday evenings in the Fahey downstairs lounge, with dinner delivered from localrestaurants. All West House members are encouraged to a]end, members of the class of 2023 are especiallywelcome! This week’s mee>ng is Sunday at 6:30pm in Fahey Lounge, and new members are alwayswelcome at any >me! - Resident Fellow applicaPons due Feb 19 Applica>ons are now open for graduate Resident Fellows, who live in the residence halls and take part in lotsof House programming.
