    MetodeParticipants:Participants were 391 infants enrolled in the

    Beginnings study between 2002 and 2010.

    Infants were recruited between ages 1 and 2monts.

    Pregnancies were uncomplicated with nomedical diagnose or medications known to

    affect fetal or infant growth and development.

    All mothers were nonsmokers, were deniedalcohol use during pregnancy, and reportedno use of soy products or other estrogeniccompounds during pregnancy and/or

    kg at birth, had no medical diagnoses, or hadnot been administered medications known to

    affect growth ar development.

    Other exclusion criteria included change offormula after age 2 months and before age 12

    months; complementary foods before 4months; and body weight at 3 months < 5 kg.

    Metodeanthropometrics:Anthropometric measured were obtained at

    each study visit by using standardizedmethods.

    Briefly, infant weight was measured to thenearest 0.01 kg by using a tarred scale withinfants wearing a diaper only.

    Infant length was measured to the nearest 0.1cm by using a length board.

    MetodeInfant Behavioral Development:Infant were assessed with the Bayley Scaled

    of Infant Development (BSID), second edition,from which the Mental Developmental Index

    (MDI) and Psychomotor Development Index(PDI) were derived.

    Infants were also assessed with the preschool

    language Scale-3 (PLS-3) by using theexpressive communication and auditorycomprehension subscales.

    Infant Behavioral Development:(cont...)Result are presented as standard scores

    adjusted for childs age with a mean of 100(SD=15), and the range for normal scores is

    85-115.

    Delay on these measures was defined as ascore below 85 and accelerated performance

    a score greater than 115.Both assessments were administered at each

    study visit by psychological examinerssupervised by a licensed psychologist.

    Hasil :Of 483 potential participants, 49 (10.1%) were

    excluded because they did not meet inclusioncriteria, and 8 (1.6%) were exclude because of

    a medical diagnosis.

    Of the remaining 426 participants, 35 (8.2%)voluntary withdrew or were lost to follow-up.

    The final cohort analyses consisted of 131 BFinfants (61 girls), 131 MF infants (61 girls),and 129 SF infants (55 girls), for a total 391infants.

    versus SF).BF infant score slightly higher than

    formula-fed infants on the Mental

    Kesimpulan

    Studi ini menunjukan perkembangan mentalpada grup bayi yg mengkonsumsi susu sapidan susu kedelai berada dalam batas normal

    dan tidak berbeda terlalu signifikan.

    Studi ini juga menunjukan keuntunganpekembangan kongnitif pada bayi ygmengkonsumsi ASI di banding ygmengkonsumsi susu formula.
