Introducing MeA southern girl born and bred, I was born

in Durham, NC and lived there for three years

before moving to Fayetteville, where I currently

live. Throughout my whole life, I knew that I

belonged at the University of North Carolina at

Chapel Hill. When I was little, it was because

UNC had the prettiest school colors. In middle

school, it was because a ll of my friends siblings

went there. In high school, it was because of

    UNCs outstanding journalism department. Now

that Im here, I know it was because UNC is the

place where I would encoun ter my bigg est

    challenges and face them head-on.

When I was in high school, I was addicted

to writing. I kept journals of my thoughts and

regularly made As in my English classes. When

I was deciding on a career path, journalism was

the natural course t o take. But once I came to

college, my passion changed from writing to

communicating a message through design. I

started to work on the graphics team of the Daily

Tar Heel, where it was my job to make the paper

visually pleasing so people would want to pick it

up. I loved the idea that because of my desk, the

paper might attract a new reader or two.

The other passion in my life is my faith. I

am a devout Catholic who comes from an Irish

Catholic family, so naturally I wanted

my faith in college. I started attending

Center my freshman year, and it has b

of the biggest parts of my life. I becam

with Newman leadership, and I have b

publicity coordinator for the center goi

years now. I love using visua ls to adve

Newman events for people who may

involved with all that Newman has t

reaching out to every person who wa

the doors that makes me love what I d

A turning point for me was rea

could put these two life passionsd

faithtogether. In my work with the

Center, I use my talents to reach out to

of the Carolina community who may b

for their place on campus. I have not c

figured out t he course my life will tak

the skills I have learned at Carolina an

I brought with me that continues to gr

confidently toward the future and can

    what is to come.

My family, friends, and faith are themost importantthings in my world.

I believe in helpingothers- even thesmall things havea huge impact.

AmbitionsWhen I think of thefuture and what it might havein store for me, it is a daunting

task. I still havent quite figured

out what direction my life will

take af ter graduation or even

after next week. This can be an

    altogether scary thought, but

it can also be quite liberating.

    When youre young, the clich

is that you can do whatever you

want when you grow up. When I

got to college, I realized that this

clich has a ring of truth to it.

I know that in the future,

I will be working in faith ministry.

    My most amibitious dream is

to be the layout editor of a faith

    based magazine for young girls.

It is a pretty far fetched and

far away goal, bu t it is what I

    can see myself doing twenty,

thirty, and for ty years from now.

I want to use design, color, and

    image along with my passion

    for faith t o create a magazine

for girls u nlike anything I ever

had growing up. I cant think of

a better way to use my passions

in order to do what I love a nd at

the same time, give back to the

    community.

Visual IdentitWhen I was thinking about my visual identity, I knew that I

wanted to present a clean, sophisticated look. But since that

not the whole picture of who I am, I added a touch of whimsy

to my logo by adding flourishes to my intertwined initia ls.

Since family is very important to me, I modeled the flourishe

after the OShea crest, which is my familys namesake.

The letterhead and business card use elements from my logo

combined with an abstract illustration of the London Eye to

present my brand. My visit to London had a huge impact on

my life, so I thought it was important to include in my brand.

Typography ProjectI chose to use the StormType font foundry for my typography

project because of its range of interesting font faces. I used pirate

flags a nd family crests as my inspiration for this project. I chose

bold colors and broad strokes for the background to show the

boldness of the different font faces. I also created a swirling

pattern to add some depth to the composition.

Poster SerI chose to create a poster a nd flyer for the

    Centers Spring and Winter semi-formals.

for the winter masquerade dance, but I did

look predictable with masks and dark colo

I wanted the aesthetic of the poster to be b

elegant, so I added a bokeh effect in the b

InfographicThe question I posed for my infographic project was:

Between *Nsync and the Backstreet Boys, which band was

more successful? In order to a nswer this question, I used

the number of record sales and awards won by each band.

My inspiration for the project was a high school battle of the

bands competition poster. I included images of each band

and a screaming audience in the background to breathe life

into the poster and give the viewer the feeling that they are

watching a battle of two great bands.

Whittington Lecture SeriesThis past school year, I was the publicity coordinator for the

UNC Newman Center. I designed the posters for the centers

annual Whittington Lecture Series on Faith and Reason. I

wanted the posters to be bold yet concise and readable to

attract a wide audience, from college students to professional

adults. I chose a bold color scheme so the posters wouldstand out around campus.
