Training, Qualifications and Advancement
• Since I haven’t made my mind up in what I want to study, I have a couple of back up plans. To become a pharmacist I need a bachelors degree and then to take the Pharmacy College Admissions Test and get into a school that offers a Pharm D. A Pharm D is basically a doctor of Pharmacy. So after I complete my bachelors degree I would need to re-apply to pharmacy school to complete the full certification process of becoming a pharmacist.
•
Nature Of The Work
• If I do become a pharmacist the daily basis of my career is to prepare all of the necessary drugs that have been ordered. There are also many responsibilities because you have the patient’s lives on your hands. If they take a wrong prescriptions many harmful things can occur.
Personal Traits
• The distinguishing features I have for this career are I love to help people, leadership qualities, patience to deal with the sick and a high-stress environment.
Trends/Outlook
• The new developments in this field are that now you need a doctorate to enter the career. This at first made me start to change my mind but I am not going to let a few more years of school affect my dream. It also will give me more knowledge and I could help patients a lot better than if I didn’t get a doctorate.
Job Availability
• Through 2012, job availability will be high for those seeking work as a pharmacist. Although more people are decided to become pharmacists because of job availability and good pay, there will still be a higher number of jobs available than degrees earned. This is due to people leaving the field or retiring in addition to a growing demand for more pharmacies.
Earning Potential
• The starting salary in New York City for a pharmacist is $81,597.00.
• A top earning salary is $110,148.• To get the top earning salary you would need
years of experience and a doctorate degree.
Related Occupations
• Some other occupations that I am interested in are teaching history at a high school or college level.
• I am also interested in Law. • If those plans do not come through then I will
try to become a physical therapist.
Challenges/Drawbacks
• Some possible drawbacks I didn’t realize while making this career choice was the amount of time I need to complete in school. Also it is very risky because you are responsible for people’s lives; almost as important as a doctor.
