2015 Outstanding Nuclear Physicists
• Recognizes individuals who have made outstanding and sustained contributions and/or significant technical achievements in experimental and/or theoretical research related to the nuclear physics program at Jefferson Lab
• Selection panel chaired by Bob McKeown and included Science Council member James Symons, JSA Programs Committee member John Hardy, and 2013 Outstanding Nuclear Physicist recipient Douglas Beck
Award to: Xiangdong Ji and Anatoly Radyushkin
For their seminal roles in the development of Generalized Parton Distributions and the identification of associated experimental
observables via Deeply Virtual Compton Scattering

JSA Post Doctoral Research Prize
• Established 8 years ago by the Users Group as a way to recognize, reward, and honor the finest postdocs and support the Lab’s scientific mission
• Over the years, the prize has helped to encourage students to see that excellence is recognized at every level of their careers, including their post graduation, career building phase
• Of the past 7 prize recipients, 3 are now JLab scientists, and 1 just received a DOE SC Early Career research grant
Award to: Raúl Briceño
Proposal: Exotic mesons, resonances and transition rates from quantum chromodynamics
-3-
JSA Thesis Prize
• Established in 1999 by the Users, an opportunity to recognize some of the best theses on JLab science and research by graduate students
Award to: Adesh Subedi, Ph.D., MS State University: Determination of the weak charge of the proton through parity violating asymmetry measurements in the elastic e+p scattering Cristiano Fanelli, Ph.D., INFN/Sanita, Rome: Measurements of polarization transfers in real Compton scattering by a proton target at JLab

Community Building
-7-
Relations & Outreach • Advocating FY16 budget increase for Nuclear
Physics/JLab (Up 4.9% over FY15, thanks to US Senate letter in January) – but requesting minimum run-time of 21 weeks to maximize 12GeV investment
• Virginia Governor supported and General Assembly approved just under $4M for the Lab to prepare for a bid on the EIC
• SURA growing stronger Hill presence with community and JLab Users: Nuclear Physics Day (March 2015) had 22 participants (more than FRIB; 2 less than Brookhaven)
