1 OIL SYSTEM
1.1 Purpose
Supply a flow of filtered oil to the engine in order to cool, lubricate and clean various components.
1.2 Description
The engine oil system consists of a pressure system, a scavenge system and a breather system. The JT15D lubrication system provides a constant supply of clean oil to the engine bearings, accessory drives gears and carries any contaminants to the oil filter. The oil tank is integral to the engine.
1.3 Servicing
Use approved synthetic oil listed in SB 7001
Dipstick indicates quantity in US quarts
Check oil level within 10 minutes after shut down
After 12 hours or more without running, drain AGB, pour drained oil back to engine tank and check oil level
Change oil every 400 ± 50 hrs or 12 months
Ensure that oil pressure is within limits with N2 above 60%

1.4 Oil system flushing
Flush oil system if new brand or type of oil is to be used
Refer to Engine Maintenance Manual for flushing procedure
1.5 Maximum oil consumption
0.5 Ib/hr measured over a 10 hour period
(0.5 Ib/hr = 0.25 quart/hr)
1.6 References
Oil tank capacity: 2.08 U.S. gal (JT15D-1 and 4 series)
Oil tank capacity: 2.03 U.S. gal (JT15D-5 series)
Normal oil pressure 65 – 95 psi (JT15D-1/1A/1B)
Normal oil pressure 70 – 95 psi (JT15D-4/4B/4D)
Normal oil pressure 60 – 83 psi (JT15D-5A)
Normal oil pressure 60 – 90 psi (JT15D-5D)

2 OIL PRESSURE SYSTEM
2.1 Oil pumps
Gerotor or gear type pump (post SB7251) assembly incorporates 3 pump elements; one pressure and two scavenges (JT15D-1 and 4 series)
Gear type pump assembly incorporates 3 pump elements; one pressure and two scavenges (JT15D-5 series)
Driven by accessory gearbox
Pump housing incorporates the oil tank drain plug
Oil pump assembly is field replaceable
2.2 Oil check valves (2)
Prevent gravity flow when engine does not run
Allow oil filter to be serviced without draining oil tank
Spring loaded closed, cracking pressure 5 psi
2.3 Fuel cooled oil cooler
Heat exchanger uses high pressure fuel to cool the oil
Mounted on filter housing
Integral oil bypass valve opens at 18 psid
2.4 Pressure regulating valve
Maintain oil pressure within specified limit (60 -83 psi – JT15D-5 series)
When oil pressure exceeds the limit, the valve opens a passage to the pump inlet, thereby limiting the oil pressure
Externally adjustable

2.5 Oil filter
10 microns
Cleanable (electrosonic)
2.6 Filter bypass valve
Allow unfiltered oil to flow through the engine when the filter becomes restricted
Open when pressure drop across the filter reaches 15-24 psid
2.7 Impending bypass indicator (JT15D- 4 series – Diamond
or Beechjet only)
Airframe supplied
Indicate that the flow through the filter is restricted
"Oil FLTR Bypass" light ON at 11-15 psid
2.8 Anti-siphon (JT15D-5D only)
Prevent draining of tank back to AGB
Constant flow of oil back to tank
2.9 Oil filler neck check valve (JT15D-5 series)
Standard on JT15D-5D and JT15D-5A post SB 7415
Prevent loss of oil if oil filler cap is not properly latched or installed
2.10 Maintenance
Adjust oil pressure within limits
1 turn of spring seat CW = 3 to 5 PSI increase
Inspect and clean oil filter every 150 hours

3 OIL SCAVENGE SYSTEM
3.1 Scavenge pumps
2 out of 3 pumps are dedicated to oil scavenging
Gravity assisted by cavity air pressure allow bearing nos. 1, 2, 3 and 3
1/2 to scavenge into the
accessory gearbox
One pump scavenges no. 4 bearing housing and the oil is return directly to the engine oil tank
One pump scavenges oil inside the AGB that has been separated from the air and return it to the oil tank
