LETTER FROM OUR PASTOR

"He who receives you receives me, and he who receives me receives him who sent me"

Welcoming our brother and sister is welcoming Jesus

Dear friends!

We celebrate the thirteenth Sunday in ordinary time, the last Sunday in June. We have lived through very hard weeks, in which we continue dealing with the Coronavirus. Let's not be discour-aged! This tragedy will pass. We continue to pray for an end to the pandemic and to restart all our activities normally.

Thank you for joining our prayers, masses, and adoration through the website or by coming to church. Remember to follow the instructions for a safe visit to the parish.

The words of Jesus in the Gospel of Saint Matthew tell us about the importance of hospitality in the Christian tradition. Let us remember that it is one of the beatitudes, welcoming the stranger. Jesus tells us that receiving the one who comes to us, opening our house and our friendship is receiving Him. That is the key. Jesus himself passes in front of our door and our life. Jesus calls us and asks us to welcome him. Unfortunately, many times we see the other, the strangers, who are the vast majority, as a threat to our tranquility, to our peace.

A lot of bad news contributes to creating an environment in which it seems most natural to distrust the unknown person who is ap-proaching us. We value our security, our peace, our things very much, perhaps too much. Nations do the same. We do not realize that deep down like this we do nothing more than reveal our own insecurity and what we do, deep down, is to close ourselves off and isolate ourselves.

Jesus invites us not to live so focused on ourselves. That is what he means when he says that we must "lose our life." Jesus asks us to stop looking only at our problems and open ourselves to the others to welcome and understand him, even if he thinks or is different.

In this time of pandemic, we have had to take precautions not to catch the virus. But it has been a challenge to meet others through phone calls or text messages.

The parish is a place of encounter and welcome. Let's help him feel that way and others may consider this his home. In each one is the one that is achieved.

On Monday we celebrate Saint Peter and Saint Paul. Let us ask for the intercession of these two holy apostles to be welcoming missionaries to each other, so that they feel like a friend and our brother.

We appreciate your regular contribution to the parish in this diffi-cult time. It has been essential to cover the fixed expenses of the parish. We encourage you to continue doing so!

Remember to update your information (address and telephone number) on our website or by sending an email to the parish office.

It can serve as a reflection to ask ourselves: am I open to dialogue and meeting others? Do I feel threatened by those who are different from me or think otherwise? What does Jesus say to me in the Gospel? What attitudes do I have to change to act as a Christian?

May the Mother of God and Saint Paul free us from the corona-virus!

Have a blessed week!

P.Hugo Tagle, ISP

Marriage Preparation Retreat

All those couples who are planning to marry this year may attend “Together in God’s Love” retreat which is scheduled for July 25th in Grace Hall. Time: 9am-6pm. Fees: $90.00. For registration contact the parish office or visit the parish website.

Most Precious Blood of Jesus

The month of July is dedicated to the Most Precious Blood of the Redeemer. Supreme homage is given to the Sacred Blood. As we adore the Sacred Heart, because it is the Heart of Jesus, who is God, so we adore the Most Pre-cious Blood.

The Blood of Jesus is the fountain of salvation. Each drop that flowed from the wounds of the Savior is a pledge of man’s eternal salvation. All races of the earth have been ransomed, and all individuals, who will allow the saving power of the Sacred Blood to be applied to their soul, are heirs of heaven. St. John Chrysostom calls the Precious Blood “the savior of souls”; St. Thomas Aquinas, “the key to heaven’s treasures”; St. Ambrose, “pure gold of ineffa-ble worth”; St. Mary Magdalene de Pazzi, “a magnet of souls and pledge of eternal life”. The sins of mankind, in their number, in their offense to the Supreme Being, in the effects on transgressors, are immense; yet, the Precious Blood of Jesus is not frightened by numbers, it has in Itself the power to appease an angered God and to heal wound-ed creatures.

June 29th: Solemnity of Sts. Peter and Paul, apostles

Veneration of the two great Apostles, Peter and Paul, has its roots in the very foundations of the Church. They are the solid rock on which the Church is built. They are at the origin of her faith and will forever remain her protectors and her guides. To them Rome owes her true greatness, for it was under God's providential guidance that they were led to make the capital of the Empire, sanctified by their martyrdom, the center of the Christian world whence should radiate the preaching of the Gospel.

Social Ministry Ministerio Social

Dear Parishioners,

I have enjoyed being your pastor for a year and have been observing, listening, participating and trying a few new parish activities. In the upcoming months you will hear about various parish ministries. I’d like to share with everyone our social ministry vision.

St. Paul will have two main ministries to support the social functions in our Parish.

The two main ministries are:

Society of Saint Vincent de Paul (SVDP)

• This is a ministry that provides financial support to any person in our parish boundaries- regardless of their faith.

• The second collection, the second week of every month is used to support as many people as possible.

• A person can obtain rent or utility financial assistance twice a year. In addition, SVDP provides references to food, cloth-ing, transportation, work, and support for addictions.

• 25 parishioners are members of SVDP ministry here at St. Paul. Connie Chavez is the President.

Kids at Heart

• Kids at Heart ministry provides financial support for children of parishioners to attend Catholic grammar or high school.

• This program was started at Sacred Heart in Austin, Texas and has spread throughout Texas and other Diocese in the United States.

• This is a new ministry at St. Paul and you will be hearing more about Kids at Heart in a few months.

• Chantele Cisneros, Jennifer Monaco, Fernando Reyes and Gina Rollman lead this initiative.

Please note: The food pantry will be discontinued July 1. We will continue to have two brown bag food collections a year. The food will support the various food pantries that serve our parish boundaries. In addition, the SVDP references for assis-tance will be available to anyone who comes to our office.

We are currently updating the parish ministries on the Saint Paul web site. I encourage you to see all the great things that are happening. I am gladdened by the number of people who are sharing their talents in so many ways to help others.

Fr. Johnson

Estimados feligreses,

Niños de corazón (Kids at Heart)
