What is(n’t) Certification?
NPS does not own or manage segments that fall outside NPS park unit boundaries (Tumacácori NHP, Casa Grande NM, Saguaro NP, Santa Monica Mountains NRA, Pinnacles NP, Golden Gate NRA)
The owner/manager retains all legal rights to the property
Certification agreement does not grant legal authority to NPS over the property or any action by the owner/manager

Description
Recreation Trail Segments
• Multi-use, non-motorized segments within or near the historic corridor with the potential to connect into a continuous recreation trail
Historic Sites • Places of direct historical significance to the Anza Expedition with the presence of visible historic remains, scenic quality, and few intrusions
• Campsites, places associated with Expedition members
Interpretive Sites
• Places with high potential to commemorate the historical significance or to interpret American Indian, Spanish colonial, or natural history related to the expedition; sites may not retain their historic integrity
• Places associated with first & second generation descendants, places within or near the historic corridor

Association & Connectivity Within or near the historic corridor and have potential for connectivity to other segments for a continuous recreation experience
Available to Public Maintained and in good condition, protected by easements, open for recreational use (non-motorized, hike/bike/ride)
Interpretive Opportunities Available for use during programs (like guided hikes) and potential for interpretive elements along the trail

The National Park Service and the Partner agree voluntarily to strive to achieve the highest level of resource protection and visitor appreciation of trail resources and history at Trail Segment/Site, as provided for in the Comprehensive Management and Use Plan for the Juan Bautista de Anza National Historic Trail (Anza Trail) for "...the identification and protection of the historic route and its historic remnants and artifacts for public use and enjoyment." (National Trails System Act 16 U.S.C. - 1241 et seq. Section 3(a)(3)).
