Juan Diego Perez-Vargas Chairman of the Board KMD Architects Juan Diego Perez-Vargas is the Chairman of the Board of KMD Architects, an international firm based in San Francisco with 45 years of award winning designs worldwide. In the past two decades the firm has won over 200 design awards and international design competitions, including over 40 awards from the American Institute of Architects. Perez-Vargas founded KMD Mexico in 1992 consolidating into one of the country’s leading architecture firms with a wide array of projects and a dedicated focus in hospitality. He has since overseen the completion of successful projects including the W Hotel in Mexico City, recipient of the 2004 Golden Key Award from Hospitality Hotel and Management for best Hotel project; and has worked with leaders in the industry including, Banyan Tree, St. Regis, Ritz Carlton, Rosewood, and Marriott among many others. Under his direction, the firm has developed an international reputation for excellence and innovation in building design. Throughout his 27 years with KMD, there is a consistency in his approach towards projects and a philosophy of design that emphasizes three critical factors, search for innovation in the planning and design process, the appropriateness of the architecture within its regional context or its natural environment, and a passion for detail in the architectural expression of the final building.
