Judges 15-16The Spirit came upon him; My granddaughter in law, Allison Roberts, painted this and gave it to me.

Gideons came 11-20-16

Judges 15:1, Claim My WifeNAU Judges 15:1 But after a while, in the time of wheat harvest, Samson visited his wife with a young goat, and said, "I will go in to my wife in her room." But her father did not let him enter. 2 Her father said, "I really thought that you hated her intensely; so I gave her to your companion. Is not her younger sister more beautiful than she? Please let her be yours instead."What does the phrase time of wheat harvest tell you about the land?In 14:18 he referred to her as a heifer now he's going to make up for it by bringing her a young goat what a romantic.

My granddaughter in law, Allison Roberts, painted this and gave it to me. She asked if I knew what the scene was?

Lets read Judges 15:3-8

Judges 15:4, 300 foxes?I told her that that account of him catching 300 foxes had special meaning to me. As a new believer, the first time I read through the Bible, and encountered this story, my reaction was no one can do that! Immediately the Lord convicted me of my prideful arrogant heart, and I was compelled to accept His Word by faith. It wasn't until many years later that I examined it again, logically;

Judges 15:4, 300 foxes? If God can create a fox out of nothing, provide a mate for it and bring them to life, could He provide that 300 could be caught by one man?If God wanted to judge the Philistines could He use a man, foxes, and fire? One commentator estimates that the area burned would have been about 150 mi. that's an area big enough to hold a lot of foxes. It doesn't say how long he took to catch them, he was an outdoorsman, more than capable even without supernatural help.

Judges 15:4, 300 foxes? This account is logical. To destroy all of the wheat fields, vineyards, and olive groves, by one man, he would have needed some help. If two foxes were not tied together, a singular fox would have merely returned to its burrow. Tied together they would have run in a zigzag pattern, crazily, throughout the entire field. Wheat would have been grown in the valley bottom, and the flames would have reached up into the foothills, to the vineyards and trees.

God's Judgment Will Be Greater Then SampsonsNAU 2 Peter 3:10 But the day of the Lord will come like a thief, in which the heavens will pass away with a roar and the elements will be destroyed with intense heat, and the earth and its works will be burned up.

Judges 15:9, Philistines Come UpNAU Judges 15:9 Then the Philistines went up and camped in Judah, and spread out in Lehi. 10 The men of Judah said, "Why have you come up against us?" And they said, "We have come up to bind Samson in order to do to him as he did to us."

Lets read Judges 15:11-13With 3000 men, Sampson, and the LORD, do you think they could've whupped the Philistines?Instead, after two years of serving the Jews, theyre going to arrest and handover their savior/deliverer to the Philistines.NAU John 1:11 He came to His own, and those who were His own did not receive Him.Could Sampson have killed these Jewish leaders? He surrendered voluntarily to their judgment, just like Jesus did.

Lets read Judges 15:14-19

Judges 15:14the Spirit of the LORD came upon himNAU Judges 15:14 When he came to Lehi, the Philistines shouted as they met him. And the Spirit of the LORD came upon him mightily so that the ropes that were on his arms were as flax that is burned with fire, and his bonds dropped from his hands.NAU Judges 14:6 The Spirit of the LORD came upon him (Judges 14:19, 15:14)NAU 1 Samuel 10:10 the Spirit of God came upon him (1 Sam 19:20, 23, 2 Chronicles 15:1, Num 24:2)NAU 2 Kings 3:15 the hand of the LORD came upon him. Judges 15:18, Samson PrayedNAU Judges 15:18 Then he became very thirsty, and he called to the LORD and said, "You have given this great deliverance by the hand of Your servant, and now shall I die of thirst and fall into the hands of the uncircumcised?NAU Judges 16:28 Then Samson called to the LORDSamson only prayed 2 timesNot one use of prayer, pray, prayed in NAU JudgesDon't pattern your life after 1 Corinthians or Judges.

Judges 16

Judges 16:1-3NAU Judges 16:1 Now Samson went to Gaza and saw a harlot there, and went in to her. 2 When it was told to the Gazites, saying, "Samson has come here," they surrounded the place and lay in wait for him all night at the gate of the city. And they kept silent all night, saying, "Let us wait until the morning light, then we will kill him." 3 Now Samson lay until midnight, and at midnight he arose and took hold of the doors of the city gate and the two posts and pulled them up along with the bars; then he put them on his shoulders and carried them up to the top of the mountain which is opposite Hebron.

Judges 16:5, His Great StrengthNAU Judges 16:4 After this it came about that he loved a woman in the valley of Sorek, whose name was Delilah. 5 The lords of the Philistines came up to her and said to her, "Entice him, and see where his great strength lies and how we may overpower him that we may bind him to afflict him. Then we will each give you eleven hundred pieces of silver. They should have saved their money and read the book of Judges instead (ha ha); NAU Judges 14:6 The Spirit of the LORD came upon him mightilyNAU Judges 14:19 Then the Spirit of the LORD came upon him mightilyNAU Judges 15:14 the Spirit of the LORD came upon him mightily

Judges 16:5, His Great StrengthHave you ever noticed that the artworks always portrays Samson like a weightlifter? That is exactly the opposite of chapter 16. They all wonder where he gets his strength and how they can overpower him by trickery. When I see a weightlifter/Bodybuilder I never wonder how he gets his strength. It's obvious he works out.

Judges 16:6-17NAU Judges 16:6 So Delilah said to Samson, "Please tell me where your great strength is and how you may be bound to afflict you." 7 bind me with seven fresh cords 8 she bound him with them. 9 Now she had men lying in wait in an inner room. And she said to him, "The Philistines are upon you, Samson!" But he snapped the cords as a string of tow snaps when it touches fire. So his strength was not discovered. 10 tell me how you may be bound. 11 new ropes 12 he snapped the ropes from his arms like a thread. 13 If you weave the seven locks of my hair with the web and fasten it with a pin 14 he awoke and pulled out the pin of the loom and the web. 15 "How can you say, 'I love you,' 16 she pressed him daily 17 So he told her all I have been a Nazirite to God from my mother's womb

Judges 16:13, Mess With My HairNAU Judges 16:13 Then Delilah said to Samson, "Up to now you have deceived me and told me lies; tell me how you may be bound." And he said to her, "If you weave the seven locks of my hair with the web and fasten it with a pin, then I will become weak and be like any other man.Whenever we keep flirting and teasing with sin we will certainly be drawn closer to it, and eventually trapped by it. Now he brings in the issue of his hair. He's only one step away from his downfall.

Judges 16:13, Growing Long HairShelley Toren, One evening while my daughters were taking a bath together, 4-year-old Andrea began pouring water over her 10-month-old sister's bald little head. Exasperated, I asked Andrea what she was doing. Without a moment's hesitation, she replied, "I'm watering Rachel's head so her hair will grow!"

Song of Solomon 4:1 Judges 16:13 Leviticus 13:40 Ezekiel 27:31 2 Kings 2:23 Matthew 5:36 1 Corinthians 11:15Shelley Toren, Ada, MI.Today's Christian Woman, "Heart to Heart."

Judges 16:16, Nagging WomenNAU Judges 16:16 It came about when she pressed him daily with her words and urged him, that his soul was annoyed to death.NAU Judges 14:17 However she wept before him seven days while their feast lasted. And on the seventh day he told her because she pressed him so hard. She then told the riddle to the sons of her people.Samson is no match for nagging woman, none of us are.NAU Proverbs 19:13 And the contentions of a wife are a constant dripping.

Lets read Judges 16:18-31

Judges 16:20, He Did Not KnowNAU Judges 16:20 She said, "The Philistines are upon you, Samson!" And he awoke from his sleep and said, "I will go out as at other times and shake myself free." But he did not know that the LORD had departed from him. This is one of the scariest verses in the Bible. Sin will do that to you.NAU 1 Peter 3:7 You husbands in the same way, live with your wives in an understanding way, as with someone weaker, since she is a woman; and show her honor as a fellow heir of the grace of life, so that your prayers will not be hindered.

Judges 16:21A GrinderNAU Judges 16:21 Then the Philistines seized him and gouged out his eyes; and they brought him down to Gaza and bound him with bronze chains, and he was a grinder in the prison.

Judges 16:

NAU Judges 16:31 Then his brothers and all his father's household came down, took him, brought him up and buried him between Zorah and Eshtaol in the tomb of Manoah his father. Thus he had judged Israel twenty years.NAU Judges 16:4 After this it came about that he loved a woman in the valley of Sorek, whose name was Delilah.

Judges 15:9NAU Judges 15:9 Then the Philistines went up and camped in Judah, and spread out in Lehi.Jerusalem InspirationThe land of Judah encompasses much of the Biblical heartland of the Land of Israel. Hebron and Bethlehem are in the heart of Judah and Jerusalem is on its border. Although it borders the territories of Judah and Benjamin, according to tradition, Jerusalem was not given to a specific tribe but, rather, belongs to all of Israel. The holiness of the city chosen by God is a unifying force that joins everyone together in the service of the Almighty. Judges 16:13, SPIDER WEB!TODAY'S CREATION MOMENTTODAY'S CREATION MOMENTSPIDER WEB!inAnimalsListenProverbs 30:28The spider taketh hold with her hands, and is in kings palaces.About 10 percent of the 35,000 known species of spiders spin the familiar orb-shaped web. These amazing sticky silk constructions may be a few inches or even a yard across. The first step in building an orb web is to cast out the highest horizontal silk line in the planned construction. Once both ends are anchored, the spider then pulls another strand below the anchor line into ay shape, then drops down while creating another silk strand to complete the leg of the y. Other anchor lines may be attached from the center of the y to solid objects before the familiar spiral of the orb-web is started. Despite all of this work, most spiders take their webs down, eating the silk as they go, every day before the sun comes up. One question that nearly everyone asks, and scientists cannot even answer, is why dont spiders get caught in their own sticky webs?Scientists who believe in evolution have come to the conclusion that since so many different kinds of spiders build orb webs, the knowledge and ability to do so must have evolved many times. But we think it would be absolutely amazing if it even evolved only once!Proverbs 30:28 refers to the spiders wisdom and skill, despite its small size. But we have to ask: Who taught the spider in the first place?Prayer:Dear heavenly Father, even the amazing spider shows forth Your wisdom and skill. Give me better sight so that I may more often see and appreciate Your wonderful works. In Jesus Name. Amen.Notes:Photo: Courtesy of Rustedstrings. Judges 16:13, Spiders WebTODAY'S CREATION MOMENT spiders webLURING WITH LIGHTinAnimalsListen2 Corinthians 11:14-15And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light. Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also be transformed as ministers of righteousness; whose end shall be according to their works. The spiders web is more than simply a sticky net that catches insects. Scientists have recently learned that the spiders web is also a clever lure that uses ultraviolet light.Unlike humans, most insects can see ultraviolet light. They use this ability to locate the sun when it is behind clouds as well as to locate certain flowers that offer rich ultraviolet hues. Spider silk is able to reflect ultraviolet light. This is especially true of silks used for web-making, as opposed to silks created by the spider for lining burrows or protecting eggs. The garden spider even weaves decorations into its web that increases ultraviolet reflection. In fact, webs that have extra decorations increase ultraviolet light reflection and increase the garden spiders catch by 58 percent. Scientists also think that extra reflective decorations in the web serve as a warning to birds that can also see ultraviolet light and are not welcome in spiders webs!Just as the spiders web is as much a lure as it is a trap, the devil too, uses lures to catch us in his traps. He lures us to them with things that will catch our attention. The knowledge of how he works is given in the Bible. God gave us His Son that He may teach us how to effectively spot, avoid and escape the devils traps.Prayer:Lord Jesus, the devil is so much smarter than I am. I ask that even as You have redeemed me with Your holy, precious blood, You would help me to see the devils lures and traps and be warned away from them. Amen.Notes:I. Wickelgren.
