February is a special month at Jules Verne. We are looking forward to a month full of great learning and fun. Emphasis will be placed
on kindness and expressing our appreciation to the people around us who help us to persevere.
To kick off this month of appreciation, Home & School along with the school administration and students will show their heartfelt
appreciation to all the staff the week of February 4 – 8; STAFF APPRECIATION WEEK. For this special week, you received an e-mail
sent out on January 28 with specific instructions on a SURPRISE activity that is asked to be completed at home with your child to be
distributed to teachers throughout the week of February 4 – 8.
The celebration of appreciation will continue the following week; February 11 – 15 which is HOOKED ON SCHOOL DAYS - SCHOOL
PERSEVERENCE WEEK! Students will give thanks and praise to the staff members who have helped them persevere. We encourage
you to have your children create “heart-shaped” thank you cards; thanking any staff member for all that they do for your child to help
them to succeed in school. Please encourage your child to create the thank you cards and to give them to the staff members that have
helped in their school success throughout the week of February 11 – 15.

Outdoor Clothing
Please make sure your children
continue to dress appropriately for
the cold weather. Boots, snow
pants, hats and mittens are
essential.
It is also a very good idea to pack
an extra set of socks & clothing in
your child’s school bag.
Students are expected to wear
their snow pants for outdoor play.
FEBRUARY 2019
This year, Jules Verne is organizing a school-wide Winter Carnival trip to Glissades des Pays d’en Haut on Friday, March 1, 2019. The trip is a reward activity to celebrate the efforts of students throughout Term II. It is a celebration of school perseverance and an opportunity to bond with staff members and to continue to unite the Jules Verne community in a different environment.
Book Fair Festival Du Livre
Jules Verne Elementary is pleased to announce that they will be holding the Festival Du Livre on February 27 and 28, 2019 in the library. Teachers and their students will have an opportunity to visit the fair during the school day and may purchase books at that time.
We invite you along with your family and friends to come visit the fair on the evening of Parent-Teacher night being held on February 28, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m.
Don’t miss out, come support and help our school’s library blossom with new and exciting adventures in reading, stimulating young minds for years to come!
DRESS DOWN DAY
On February 14th, we will be having a Dress Down
Day. Students may wear red or pink for Valentine’s
Day.
At Jules Verne Elementary, we believe that all students and employees deserve to
work and learn in a safe and healthy environment. We believe, a positive climate must exist in
our school to ensure that everyone feels safe, respected, nurtured, and accepted. Bullying is unacceptable in
any situation or circumstance. Our school will be having a school wide puzzle piece activity to encourage
positive interactions and acts of kindness.
On February 22, we will be wearing our Pink T-Shirt to Stand Together To Stop Bullying. Students are encouraged to wear their Jules Verne Pink T-Shirt that was purchased last year OR any SOLID pink shirt (no logos) with or without an anti-bullying message on it.
We will also be doing a school-wide assembly on National Pink Day, February 22, to Stand Together Against Bullying, with presentations from the school administration and classes.
We hope you will join us; together we can create an even stronger and safer community!
Please join us in our greatest efforts ever. Student Council would like Jules Verne to go plastic free.
Our New Year’s Resolution for 2019 is to start small and make the necessary change within our school. Parents and students, it is up to you to reduce plast ic water bottles, zip lock bags and saran wrap. Student council with the help of the lunch monitors will remind students not to bring these three plastic items. If any of these items are brought in, they will be returned in your child’s lunch box. The schoo l’s garbage will be plastic free of these items .
Together we can make small changes.
Even the smallest change makes a difference! Thank you for your support – Student Council
