"This clinic is really important. I really can't thank all of you enough for all you've done for me. I'm about to get a job that has insurance, so I won't be coming here anymore, but I'll never forget this place! It's been here for me during some really hard times and it's good to know it will be here if I need it in the future."

“Whenever I need help with my diabetes, the Free Clinic is there. The doctor just started me on insulin and gave me the supplies I need to check my sugar level. I can't imagine getting any better care!"

Page 3 It’s been a busy and successful year at the Iowa City Free Clinic! Access to affordable healthcare remains out of reach for many people, and the need for our services is great. But with your support, our staff and volunteers provide medical and dental care for hundreds of uninsured individuals in our community. We work hard to make the Clinic a welcoming place, where our patients receive quality care and are treated with dignity and respect. Care is provided to a diverse population, many of whom need our assistance with complex, chronic conditions. And although the work can sometimes be challenging, it is always rewarding. At the Free Clinic, we want to do everything we can to help our patients lead long, healthy and productive lives. We serve an amazing group of people, and they all deserve health care. That’s why we’re here. Please accept my sincere thanks! Your generosity and compassion allow our work to continue, and make a real difference in our patients’ lives. "I'm so glad my neighbor told me about the Free Clinic. I was afraid because I didn't feel good and didn't know what was wrong - but couldn't afford to go to the doctor. Thank you for everything!"

Our Financial Report In FY18, local funding support played an integral role in offsetting the Clinic’s operating costs. Generous funding was received from Johnson County, United Way of Johnson and Washington Counties, the Cities of Iowa City and Coralville, area businesses, service clubs and churches. FY18 in-kind services through community partnerships generated over $1,200,000 of patient care, including volunteer hours, labs, medications, radiology procedure and medical supplies. Fundraising efforts included our annual event “Friday After Clinic”, Doc Dash, Rummage in the Ramp, Trick or Treat for Free Med and our holiday appeal letter. Exciting grant opportunities through the Community Foundation of Johnson County, the AMA Foundation and an anonymous donor allowed us to strengthen and expand our services. Over the past several years, the Clinic has been fortunate to achieve an operating reserve. This has been the result of new grants, fundraising, the receipt of several estate gifts, and continuing efforts to control costs. In FY18, the reserve allowed us to hire several new staff members to meet a significant increase in clinic usage. In the coming years, we look forward to continuing our current level of services.

"This community is so lucky to have this clinic. I know how much you've helped me and I know how busy you are. You've helped some of my friends and people I know, and we all thank you for eve-rything you do. You make a difference for a lot of people!"

Our Service Highlights Grant funding through the AMA Foundation allowed us to contract with Johnson County Public Health to hire a bilingual Health Educator Assistant to work with our patients diagnosed with diabetes and pre-diabetes. The Assistant provides patients with individualized and group education, goal-setting and support. She is a welcome and wonderful addition to our Case Management team! In January 2018, Nurse Practitioner-led clinics began at the Free Clinic! A grant from an anonymous donor provided funding for the Clinic to hire a part-time Nurse Practitioner from the University of Iowa College of Nursing Faculty Practice. During weekly clinics, the Practitioner supervises nurse practitioner students in providing patients with treatment for acute and chronic health conditions. These new clinics have allowed us to significantly increase available appointments!

The Community Foundation of Johnson County provided funding to support the provision of care for immigrants and refugees diagnosed with chronic medical conditions. The Foundation also supported the expansion of women’s healthcare services at the Clinic, to include endometrial

biopsies and contraception for high risk populations. Through a new partnership with UIHC Family Medicine, we now hold weekly pre-natal clinics for uninsured women in our community. In FY18, 33 women received these important services.

The Clinic had the opportunity to expand our staff in FY18 to include a part-time bilingual staff physician, an additional clinic assistant, and two additional part-time dental assistants. Dr. Brad Stiles, one of the founders of our dental clinic, recently retired from private practice, and is now our volunteer Dental Director! Dr. Stiles has already helped expand services, and we look forward to working with him in the coming years! We now have almost 300 volunteers from a wide variety of disciplines working with the Free Clinic! These generous and

skilled community members donated over 6,000 hours of service in FY18!

"I've been in pretty decent health, but things went

downhill after I lost my wife. I developed all kinds of

symptoms in a short time. I can't afford insurance and

the Free Clinic are excellent and caring. The way they
