From our Pastor … sort of
Dear Parishioners,
From the Pastor…sort of!
It’s hard to believe that a year has come and gone already! What a blessed year it’s been for me, and as I prepare to leave to begin my new assignment, I just want to offer a few parting words.
First of all, a thank you to Fr. Doug, Fr. Dave, and the whole parish staff that helped this rookie priest discover what parish ministry is all about. They were there for me to answer all my questions and fix my mistakes, and for that I am very grateful.
Secondly, a thank you to the whole parish. As you can imagine, I was rather excited to finally be ordained a priest and assigned to a parish. After six years of study, I was sick of hearing what parish life is like and was ready to dive right in, and you all afforded me the opportunity to do so. You helped shape me into the priest that I am today, and though it was only for a short time, I felt that I both learned and grew much in my vocation. I was humbled by the faith of so many people here, and I pray that you continue to deepen that faith and invite others to do the same.
Lastly, I want you all to know that you will not be forgotten. St. Francis of Assisi will always hold a special place in my heart, and I take many memories and graces along with me into my new assignment. Know of my daily prayers for the parish, and I ask for yours as well. So, until we meet again, thank you all once again, and may God bless you always!
Fr. Mark
The Reverend Mother said, “Sister, this is a silent convent. You are welcome here as long as you like, but you may not speak until you are directed to do so.” Sister Mary lived in the convent for 5 years before the Reverend Mother said to her, “Sister Mary, you have been here for five years. You may speak two words.” Sister Mary said, “Bed hard.” “I’m sorry to hear that,” came the reply. “We will get you a better bed.” After another five years, Sister Mary was summoned again. “You may say another five words.” “Food cold,” said Sister Mary, and she was told it would be better in the future. On the 15th anniversary in the convent, she was called in once again, the Reverend Mother wondering what her two words would be on this grand occasion. “I quit,” said Sister Mary. “It’s probably best,” said Reverend Mother, “you’ve done nothing but complain ever since you’ve been here.”
It does seem like certain people complain whenever they open their mouths. Nothing is ever quite right. Even on a vacation or a time away, the complaining never ceases. In the Gospel this weekend, the woman with the hemorrhages never says a word; she simply reaches out to touch Jesus’ cloak. But he knew that something had transpired. How wonderful a gift that we never have to whine to Jesus, we never have to complain. He sees into our hearts, knows our pains and frustrations, and sends the power of his grace out to us. Silence before the Lord is all that is needed; the right words are never necessary. Let us quiet ourselves in the presence of Christ and allow him to grace our lives (and trust me, that is hard for me to do - a few minutes of silence just about sends me over the edge)!
Shhh!

In today’s Gospel we see how in faith, Jarius asked Jesus to heal his daughter and how Jesus then answered his prayer. In prayer we also come to know that we are loved by God, and in that trust we ask for
healing for ourselves, our loved ones and all those who are suffering.
Through your gifts, the Society of St. Vincent de Paul brought the love and healing of Jesus to our suffering neighbors.
