Daily Mass? You mean every day?
I was talking to a parishioner some time ago, who goes to Mass every morn-
ing. I was curious about the reason he goes to daily Mass. Is it because he is
afraid of going to Hell? Is it because he would feel guilty if he didn’t go? May-
be someone told him he was supposed to go every day? Maybe he just had
nothing else to do at 7am? His response was simple. He goes to Mass every
day because he owes God so much for the blessings in his life. Wow, that
made me think! He goes to Mass every day because of what he owes God.
That means he is bringing something to the Mass, instead of expecting some-
thing from the Mass. In our culture, we are so accustomed to getting some-
thing, we can even bring this attitude into the church. “What am I getting out
of it?” There are plenty of churches that are more entertaining than we are.
Sometimes they have multi-media services with video, fun worship music, and
preachers who walk around the stage or up and down the aisles. There are
children’s programs where the kids can play basketball while memorizing Bi-
ble verses. Yep, there are places to go if you really want to get motivated and
feel good on your way out. But what will happen when the motivational talk
wears off and your feelings change? Life will throw us plenty of curve balls
and when it does, we need to be prepared with a strong faith, based on an
unshakable foundation. That foundation is our relationship with the Lord and
the church, and can only be strengthened by Mass attendance and receiving
the Holy Eucharist. There is no way for the Lord to be closer to us, than
through this Sacrament! Here at St. Anthony, we offer 7am and 8:30am daily
Mass. I attend as often as I can, and encourage you to do the same. Many of
us will do a 30 day diet or exercise challenge, why not do a 30 day daily Mass
challenge? See if it changes you. I bet it will! You’ll see that through bringing
yourself to the Lord, you will come away with more than you imagined. You
really will get something out of it, at it will be everlasting. Have a wonderful
week, God bless.

GABRIEL PROJECT CLOSURE
Gabriel Project is no longer taking calls to help pregnant women, due to a dwindling number of volunteers. This was effective June 15. The phone line will continue in service until December 31, with a message directing callers to Agape Pregnancy Center, Catholic Charities Pregnancy & Adoption Advocacy Program, and Inner Visions medical clinic for help. We would like to thank everyone for your prayers and support. Hundreds of women and their families have been helped during the past twelve years.
