FROM THE PASTOR’S DESK

The reality of this year has caused me to do some deep thinking about my future. I am still wondering if the people of God of this congregation really believe that we serve an Awesome and Available God! As I continue to guide the people of this household of faith, I am hearing God say to us that we need even in these “Pandemic Times” a little more FAITH! As we deal with the many issues of life, I want to first challenge the MEN of this congregation to step up in your destined walk with God, secure yourself from this perverse generation and be the MEN, God is looking for in these last and evil days.

It’s Manhood Month, and how important it is for the MEN to be MEN! In this day and age where everyone is NOW focused on the ideal that “Black Lives Matter”…by the way, they always mattered and they always will…, can we, as Men of God, break through that wall of stereotypes that has plagued us for so long and showcase our ability to be brothers to one another…..our ability to live in peace….our ability to be family men…our ability to have intelligent conversation….our ability to forgive….can we showcase all that? We are in this together…. in both Covid and the Cause. Men, find your friends, fathers, biological brothers, spiritual brothers, fraternity brothers, cousins, uncles, God fathers…let them know you appreciate them….and their lives have purpose.

Our Man of the Bible for this week is Samuel. What a compelling story from the Word of God! Samuel was prayed for and dedicated back to God by his mother, Hannah….which speaks to the power of a praying parent. Samuel grew into a man that had a relationship with God. He made it a habit to listen to God. He heard from God and was a prophet called by God to serve God’s people. By God’s leading, Samuel prayed, encouraged, and even anointed others (remember that guy, David?). I would remind each of us how important it is even now for all of those within the Body of Faith to be concerned for one another. We should seek to hear God’s voice and obey His leading and commands. Samuel is a great, Biblical example of hearing God with humility and

serving by His leading. Read his story in the Old Testament.

Don’t forget that on July 26th we will have our Sacrificial Offering Sunday in conjunction with Celebration of Manhood Sunday. We encourage each adult member to give $150.00 above their Tithes and Offering on that day….and our men are encouraged to lead the charge. Let us remember it is about equal sacrifice and not equal giving. Therefore, we encourage you to please give something. As always, remember that we are AN EXCITING CHURCH EXCITED ABOUT ITS MISSION!

THE DEACON’S MESSAGE

Knowing the truth can make the difference between life and death. Take for example standing on top of a building fifteen stories tall. Someone may tell you if you jump you will only break your leg. The acceleration due to gravity is 9.8 meters per second squared. The combination of the speed of the fall along with the height will result in much more than a broken leg… probably death. It is imperative that we know what truth is or we will be susceptible to any attacks the enemy may launch against us. 2 Peter 3:17-18 (The Message) explains it this way. “But you, friends, are well-warned. Be on guard lest you lose your footing and get swept off your feet by these lawless and loose-talking teachers. Grow in grace and understanding of our Master and Savior, Jesus Christ. Glory to the Master, now and forever! Yes!” Many people have the gift of persuasion and use it to their advantage. That is why we must study the Word so we can know the truth when we hear it. Pursuing the wisdom Christ offers will never lead you astray.

First Calvary Baptist Church Fredrick A. Davis, Pastor The Parenting Tip

“It’s About Time”

Why is spending time with your child important?

It builds self-esteem; boost your child’s self-confidence and decreases changes of engaging in undesirable behaviors It provides you and your child an opportunity to connect. It provides the opportunity to learn and be heard Children who spend quality time with their parents on a regular basis are likely to realize how important they are to mom and dad, and won't need to act out for attention. In addition, when they do need attention, they'll know just where they can get it, instead of having to look for it from wrong people or places Children who spend quality time with their parents and who are raised in loving and nurturing environments are likely to be well-adjusted, secure, and more confident.

Ways to spend more time with your children Grades K-5

Turn off the TV, read together- Share time in God’s Word. Talk about their Savior.

Play with your child and let them choose the activity (ex. Arts and crafts, puzzles)

Take a walk in the neighborhood Exercise together

Grades 6-8 Turn off the TV, read together- Share time in

God’s Word; talk about their Savior. Prepare a meal together Give each other a manicure/pedicure Take a “masked” trip to the mall Play board games Plant flowers/Gardening Listen to their feelings and ideas

Grades 9-12 If your teen is driving– let them drive you to

run errands Share stories about how you were raised or

high school experience Virtually attend an sporting event or movie
