NAMALAKA NEWS, “GOOD NEWS” AND “BAD” In the Malawi village of Namalaka, our Sister Parish of St. Joseph, the school has an ongoing
lunch program that, we as a parish through specific individual donors are supporting, is now
being named: “The Brendan Bowl”! What a blessed success story. Unfortunately, the new
rectory project has stalled due to insufficient funds and Bishop Montfort has had to step in to
evaluate and keep up the building process including water and electricity. As with many
things in Malawi it is a big challenge. Let us keep them in our prayers. When the Father’s
house is completed, it will accommodate many visitors. Questions? Marie Hedden at 206-
948-5166.

The 4 Marks of the Church
Las 4 Marcas de la Iglesia Las marcas de la iglesia católica son las caricterísticas de la iglesia
The marks of the Church are the characteristics of the Church
ONE means that we are all to-
gether, everyone who loves Je-
sus and wants to be his Disciple.
HOLY means that our good
thoughts and good actions come
from the Holy Spirit.
CATHOLIC means Universal.
All over the world Catholics are
celebrating the Mass in commun-
ion with the Holy Father.
APOSTOLIC means that our faith
comes from the Apostles, who really
walked and talked with Jesus.

BECOMING CATHOLIC Have you thought about becoming Catholic or want to know more about the Catholic Faith? If you have, then
the RCIA process is for you! The RCIA is a flexible multi-step process that meets people where they are and
guides them in discerning whether or not God is leading them into full initiation into the Catholic Church. For
more information, contact Pat Ibach at [email protected] or the Parish Office at 425-483-9400.
ST. BRENDAN WOMEN’S BOOK CLUB If you listen to EWTN Catholic Radio you’re familiar
with Mother Angelica. The story of this amazing wom-
an has been captured in many books so for the
month of July we’ve decided to ask folks to read any
of the many books by and/or about her and then
share when we gather on Monday, July 31st. We
meet at 7:00 pm in Brendan House Dining Room at
the Parish Office. Questions? Call Berni at 425-485
-4893 or Anneliese at 425-486-4225.
KNIGHTS CORNER A Big thank you goes to the Knights and their family
members who did the heavy lifting on Fr. Jim’s mov-
ing day. Dan O’Brien was the wheelman. Mike &
Matt Gray, Jacob Munko, Curtis Vinson and Greg
Van Hollebeke (with assistance from his sons,
Brendan & Andrew) provided the muscle. As is
often the case, the job proved bigger than expected
but they all put their shoulders into it and got the
job done! It was truly a labor of love and our way of
saying thank you to Fr. Jim for his dedication to his
flock. To join the Knights, call Kevin Van Hollebeke
at 206-240-0275.

program of special events: 18 holes of golf with cart, scramble style, shot-
gun start, unlimited range balls, professional scoring, putting contest, long-
est drive contests, closest to the pin contests, raffle, door prizes, awards
banquet and lots of fun for a great cause! Register $125 by September 8.

ST. BRENDAN GARDENS Did you notice how nice the garden near the back door of the church looks
after June’s work party? If you missed the opportunity to work on that pro-
ject and would like to help with another bigger and more needed project,
you'll have the chance this month. Mark your calendar to join Fr. Wichert
and our faithful crew for volunteer gardening at St. Brendan on Saturday,
July 22, 8:00 am—2:00 pm (pizza lunch provided) We will be working on
church and front office grounds so bring shovels, wheelbarrows, weeding
tools, etc. The goal is to clear the paths, weed and edge the flower beds
and mulch...basically prep it for “renewed” pathways and a whole new (non-
weedy) look. Final work will be completed in August. If anyone has lefto-
ver landscape cloth from your own yard work, please feel to donate it to our
worthy case: lining the pathways. If you have any questions, please contact
Anneliese at 425-770-2103 or Diane at the Parish Office at 425-483-9400.

ONLINE GIVING
Every person’s finances
and family situation is dif-
ferent. Jesus makes it
clear that it matters not
how much one gives, but
that it is planned, calculat-
ed, at least some-
what sacrificial (see Luke
24:1-4), and not simply
from what is “leftover” at
the end of the month. We
propose the tithe (10%) as
the ideal every family can
consider working to-
wards. This means taking
steps to give 5% to one’s
parish, and 5% to other
charities or causes you
have personal passion for.
You can register online at
www.saintbrendan.org
and click on the link
“Online Registration/New

san goal comes back to St. Brendan as a rebate. It is not too late to return
your pledge envelope, so please fill out a pledge envelope today or go online to
donate: www.seattlearchdiocese.org/donate
DID YOU KNOW your Annual Catholic Appeal gift could be doubled? Many
companies MATCH gifts to the Annual Catholic Appeal! Check if your employer

project. Once your gift has been paid in full, you can apply for the match per
your employer’s instructions.
ARCHDIOCESE OF SEATTLE CAPITAL CAMPAIGN
The Archdiocese of Seattle recently concluded a planning study to test the fea-
sibility of a major archdiocesan-wide fundraising effort. All parishioners were
invited to provide their opinions and level of support for specific needs affect-
ing the archdiocese’s long-term strategic vision. The planning study tested
strengthening the pension and medical plans for archdiocesan priests, provid-
ing retirement support to women religious communities serving in the archdio-
cese, and a component for parishes to raise funds for their specific, local
needs. The results of the study can be found in this week’s bulletin and on
the archdiocese’s webpage at seattlearchdiocese.org. Thank you to all who
participated in this landmark study for the future of the Archdiocese of Seattle.
