From Maureen & Tom McNeill

For the last few weeks (since the conclusion of the Easter Season) we have been celebrating what the Church calls Ordinary Time (though at present life is far from ‘ordinary’, if only it was). The term is not intended to mean unimportant. Every day and every Sunday in our Liturgical Year is important because every day that the Lord has made is a celebration of Christ’s Resurrection. Ordinary Time is ordinary in that it does not focus primarily on the major events in Christ’s life that we celebrate during the two major seasons of the Church year: Christmas and Easter. One could say that Ordinary Time developed not so much for what it is, but for what it is not – it is simply not Advent, Christmas, Lent or Easter Time. In his excellent book, The Liturgical Year, Dan Connors writes:

“We should have a special feeling for Ordinary Time, because most of our lives are spent doing very ordinary things: working, eating, paying bills, worrying, shopping and driving. These are not very exciting, but they make up the rhythms of our lives much more than do birthdays and special occasions.

We are called to listen to God’s voice, not just during the special seasons of the year, but always. We are to carry out our Christian mission, not just on the holy days, but always. We are to help the poor and work for justice, not just at Thanksgiving and Christmas, but always.

Ordinary Time is an opportunity to be the Body of Christ in the midst of everyday life. It is an opportunity to experience how God calls us to holiness in our daily rhythm of waking and resting, working and playing, laughing and worrying. When we can find God here, how much more glorious the great seasons of our year will be.”

The above quote by Dan Connors points us in the right direction when it comes to living this time of our Liturgical Year. This is a time for us to seek and respond to God, as God comes to us in the ordinary events and encounters of daily life. Seeking, finding and responding to God in the happenings of daily life is the main goal of the spiritual life. The color of this season is GREEN, the symbol of HOPE (a very prominent color on our campus), a gift we and our world must never lose sight of, and always hold onto (especially today), as it is one of the three great Christian virtues.

I hope you have signed up for our summer Dynamic Study Program ‘Rediscover Jesus,’ even though it has been running for a week, you can still catch up. It’s a forty-day journey with Matthew Kelly, featuring a daily video, designed to spark a powerful conversation between you and Jesus. Sign up today at DynamicCatholic.com/RJOLL. This study goes alongside the book of the same name. This journey focuses on such questions as Who am I? What am I here for? What matters most? What matters least? What are my unique talents and abilities? We are blessed, as a Dynamic Parish, to have this opportunity.

Live Streaming on YouTube We will continue live streaming the Sunday 9:30am Mass and Saturday 5pm Vigil Mass on our YouTube channel; they will also be uploaded to our YouTube channel later that day for viewing on demand.

Subscribe to our YouTube channel: Our Lady of Lourdes Dunedin. Our goal is 1,000 sub-scribers in order to access more publicity!

Masses Live Streamed 5pm Saturday Vigil Mass and 9:30am Sunday Mass can be streamed from our website at ourladydunedin.org OR from our YouTube channel at Our Lady of Lourdes Dunedin. Daily Mass (Mon-Fri): 9am can be streamed from our website only. Please Note: the live streamed Masses are also being recorded.

Attending Mass Due to CDC guidelines and state mandates, we are required to social distance, so our seat-ing capacity is reduced. Unless you are seated with immediate family members, please keep a distance of 6 feet from others in the pew. When attending Mass, it is required that you wear a face covering to protect yourself, as well as others around you. We also ask that you use the hospital grade hand sanitizer provided at the entrances, as it is a special formula that will not damage the pews. PLEASE NOTE: The Dispensation from the Sunday obliga-tion to attend Mass remains in effect until further notice and applies to all Catholics. If you consider yourself to be vulnerable, or have underlying health conditions, for your own safety, please continue to remain at home.

Techies Wanted! The Our Lady of Lourdes AV Ministry is currently seeking “tech savvy” individuals to help operate our lyric slides and live stream. If you, or someone you know, is interested in getting involved with this ministry, please contact John Oreskovich at (727) 733-3606 or email [email protected]. Training will be provided.

St. Sharbel Makhluf Feast Day: July 24

Patron Saint of Miracles Youssef Antoun Maklouf was born in 1828 into a pious home in the Lebanese village of Beka-Kafra and raised by an uncle because his father, a mule driver, died when Joseph was only three. At the age of 23, Joseph joined the Monastery of St. Maron at Annaya, Lebanon, and took the name Sharbel in honor of a second-century martyr. He professed his final vows in 1853, and was ordained six years later.

Following the example of the fifth-century Saint Maron, Sharbel lived as a hermit from 1875, until his death. His reputation for holiness prompted people to seek him to receive a blessing and to be remembered in his prayers. He followed a strict fast and was very devoted to the Blessed Sacrament. When his superiors occasionally asked him to administer the sacraments to nearby villages, Sharbel did so gladly.

He died in the late afternoon on Christmas Eve. Dazzing lights were seen around his body. His corpse, which had been secreting sweat and blood, was transferred into a special coffin. In 1925, his beatification and canonization were proposed for declaration by Pope Pious XI. In 1950, his grave was opened in the presence of an official committee which included doctors who verified the soundness of the body. After the grave had been opened and inspected, the variety of healing incidents amazingly multiplied. A multitude of pilgrims from different religious facets started flocking to the Annaya monastery to get the saint's intercession. And through this intercession, God blessed many people with recovery and spiritual graces. Christians and non-Christians soon made his tomb a place of pilgrimage and of cures. Pope Paul VI beatified Sharbel in 1965, and canonized him 12 years later.

STEWARDSHIP: TIME | TALENT | TREASURE

STEWARDSHIP REFLECTION

www.dosp.org

2020 Annual Pastoral Appeal The Diocese of St. Petersburg, through the Annual Pastoral Appeal, supports the Office of Worship. It is the Bishop’s role to ensure that worship throughout the Diocese of St. Petersburg reflects the principles of the Constitution on the Sacred Liturgy, which was the first document promulgated by the Second Vatican Council (December 4, 1963). The Office of Worship assists the Bishop in his mission as “promoter and guardian of the liturgical life” of the diocese by:

· Coordinating diocesan liturgies, such as the Rite of Election, Chrism Mass, Ordinations, etc.,

· Developing programs and workshops that contribute to the advancement of liturgical life,

· Providing liturgical formation and serving as a resource to clergy and laypersons in the parishes of the diocese regarding liturgical matters.

To date, 465 families have pledged $162,491 toward our required goal of $228,225. We have collected $138,584 of those pledges. With renewed spirit and hearts full of love and gratitude for our many blessings, we must be His Salt and Light and serve one another with His love and mercy. For those who have made a gift or pledge to the Annual Pastoral Appeal, thank you. Your sacrifice will help our parish to prosper and will give hope to those in need throughout our diocese.

Little Things Add Up Children and youth easily learn from your example when you plant the “mustard seeds” of faith in their lives. Recently, a group of youngsters shared their ideas on how to show the love of Jesus to others. · I walk my neighbor’s dog because she’s too old to do it. · Put money in a parking meter that ran out. · Don’t talk about anyone behind their back. · Clean the house when Mom and Dad are out. · I put out the trash without being asked. · Help take donations to the food bank. · Invite your friend to go to Mass with you. · Don’t yell at your sister. · Hold the door open for people. · When Mom or Dad has a long day I make dinner and

look after my younger brother. · Find something you’re good at and do it for someone

else. · Save some of your allowance and give it to help poor

people. · If you’re a bigger kid, just help out some of the little guys. · Say prayers for people who are sick or in trouble. · I interpret for deaf people. · Give a surprise present to someone. · I send notes to my parents at work just to tell them I love

them. · Stand up for a pregnant lady on the bus. · Wake up early and make breakfast. · Parents clean up after you every day; you can pick up

after them, too. · I visit people in the nursing home who don’t have family

or are just plain lonely. · If the classroom is really messed up, put things away

before the teacher asks. · If a friend looks sad, give them a nice warm hug.

We continue to have operating expenses, ministries to support, and staff to pay. Please consider using ONLINE GIVING for your offertory donations, so that our parish can continue its mission.
