WHAT’S INSIDE: Hello Hogsters, It’s hard to believe we are half way thru the calendar year. It seems like just yes- terday that we started with the Hair of the Hog Ride. Well let’s get down to some business. I want to thank all of those who came out for the charity ride for Patrick Purdon. I would say it had to be the longest and biggest charity ride the chapter has ever done. We started around 7:00 pm and didn’t finish un- til around 11:00 pm. But it was worth it, as it gen- erated money that went to Patrick’s family. From the Director’s Saddle (continued)

Editor’s Note. Arnny Abad

This is a short one. With all the rallies, we have-n’t had that many activities. Regardless of quantity, the articles are very good as usual. This is proof that great minds think alike. There are two articles that deal with the same topic and compliment each other nicely. This coincidence brought upon one of my favorite Pho-toshop creations to date: Uncle Johnny. I do Photoshop work for fun, but doing this ma-nipulation put a smile on my face, maybe it will do the same to you.

To see what I am talking about, just go to Page 3. It’s embedded on Lene’s article and fits in just perfect.

There are some pictures from the Arizona State Rally, and the picnic meeting among others. Sorry for the shortness to those of you that really read this cover to cover. For those that only look at the pictures, there are some for your enjoyment. Cheers,

Arnny

please be respectful of your neighbors. Just talk to your neighbors and let them know you will be quiet as possible when leaving and they will appreciate that. In closing I want to say thank you for those of you came and made the picnic a huge success. And a special thanks to Jeff Lewis and the L.V.H.D crew for serving us dinner. After this month of state rallies, we will pick up our schedule for more rides in the months to come. I hope to see you out on your scooter riding with your chapter. To the new members, let me take this time to welcome you to the greatest HOG chapter there is. This

it in color on the website. For those of you who don’t own a computer we will have many cop-ies at the dealership and we will still mail the news letters to members living out of town on a monthly basis. Now on to the next subject, as you know we give out money on one ride every month. All you have to do is make sure you have your Local HOG card on you. All members of SNHOG should carry their National & Lo-cal cards on them at all times. Also at

P.O.T. training Steve Phillip, VP of quality for Harley-Davidson wanted me to pass on an impor-tant message about noise. Know that anti-noise regulations could threaten our sport. Com-munities across the country are targeting loud motorcycles and are considering regula-tions to limit use of roads and that this issue is not going to go away on its own; but that rider’s courtesy and re-sponsibility would help resolve this potential problem. Now if you are like me nothing sounds sweeter than hitting that throttle and hearing the roar of that Harley. But as you know we have many rides that have early leave times so

chapter is a second family to many of us so come on out and get involved with your new motorcycle family. Until next time RIDE SAFE & HAVE FUN.

Officer Material? Lene Mogavero

Have you got what it takes to become an Officer of the Chapter? Have you thought about the duties and the rewards? We need a few new members to step into the spotlight. If you have been an active member of the Southern Nevada Harley Owners Group for a period of 6

months or more, you too can become one of our finest. As an Ambassador you will have light duties be-fore and after each monthly Membership Meeting and attend one All Officers meeting a month. The All Officers

Meeting will definitely en-rich your desire of becom-ing an Officer and give you a better understanding of how and what it takes to run a Chapter. As you know every Officer is on a voluntary basis. That is because if you vol-unteer as opposed to be-ing picked, means you want to contribute to the well being of your Chapter. We believe, “You get out of the Chapter what you put into it”; what better way, than to be an Officer. It is said that the Ambas-sadors are the backbone of the Chapter, there is a lot of truth behind that, but let’s not forget our Pri-mary Officers. They run the Chapter. They do eve-rything from planning an overnighter to getting us safely to our destination. There is a lot that goes into being a Primary Offi-cer, and if you have the time and energy with the right qualifications you too can become one. There are applications at the main dealership wait-

ing for you, if you are interested in becom-ing an officer. If you need more informa-tion, feel free to ask any of our proud Offi-cers. They will direct you in the right direc-tion. This is my second year of being an Am-bassador and I feel proud and honored. There is nothing like wearing a rope on your shoulder to give you the sense of be-longing to an organi-zation that cares. I encourage all our members to take a step forward and check if you have what it takes to be an Officer!

Lene .

Treasurer’s Report Pat Crittenden Beginning balance 5/12/05: $42,918.55 Income: $7,699.58 Expenses: ($11,063.45) Ending Balance: $39,554.68 Report as of 6/16/05.

Paying attention while riding maybe the single most important skill for us; being aware of the road, the other vehicles on the road, where we are going, and what is coming up behind us. Over the past 3 weeks I have seen a very notice-able increase in debris on the road. Road Ga-tors (tire remnants) are the most common. The hotter our weather the more and more tires start failing, especially large truck tires. Those tires tend to make a debris field on the free-way when they let loose. We as riders and espe-cially as SNHOG riders need to keep our eyes open, be prepared for the unexpected and pass the information on to the other riders when we see it. We need to look ahead; we need to scan the road ways and not just the lane we are riding in! When scan-ning ahead looking for debris on the outside lanes and we need to be prepared for cars and trucks avoiding the large debris in their lanes as they now enter your lane. Many of you will be tak-ing road trips this sum-mer both short and long. Many of you will be on trips with other

friends, and many yet will take trips to Sturgis and countless other rides. Keep in mind that not all riders use hand signals and/or are used to riding in groups. When other riders are sharing the same road, do not assume they will let you know about de-bris and or other road hazards! You cannot get complacent and as-sume! We always tell our members to Ride Their Own Ride and that is especially true when riding around riders that you are not familiar with. If you encounter other riders and intend to ride as a group, get together with them prior to leaving and decide and agree on some ba-sic hand signals like: road debris, slow down, single file, and even the basics to keep you all together right turn, left turn etc. If everyone has a basic way to commu-nicate while on the road, the trip will just be that much more fun and that much safer! Keep an eye on those rear view mirrors! This came to my attention even more this past week after reading about 2 local riders be-ing run over from be-hind here in town on the I-15 freeway. We have all had a vehicle come

up from behind that we had not noticed and that can be startling! Be safe, start watching and paying better attention to those mirrors. Next, make sure both you and your ride are safe. Make sure your bike has been serviced and make sure you check that bike even after a service prior to making a long trip; check the oil, make sure that you have no leaks, check the air in your tires, make sure that all of your signal lights, head light, emergency signals, and brake lights are working, check your tires for excessive wear, and when your gear has been mounted on your bike make sure it is se-cure. Now depending on how many miles your trip is going to be, make arrangements for locat-ing a place to get any needed services or at least an oil change to keep your bike in good shape for the ride back. Take your HOG mem-bers map book (what a great tool) with the ad-dresses and phone numbers of all the Harley-Davidson dealer-ships around for any unexpected needs, ser-vice needs and or places to buy those

Happy Birthday to all the July H.O.G. babies!!

We rode through some beautiful areas along the way. There were some clouds above teasing us with the prospect of a bit of rain but it was just a tease. We got about 3 sprinkles and the clouds lost interest and the sky cleared. When we got to Mt. Charleston Resort for lunch, the staff there was great. They took great care to keep our sodas and coffees full and seemed genuinely glad that we were there. The lunch of cold cuts, cheeses, breads, French

fries, potato salad & cold slaw was fresh and tasty. We had a meeting after lunch to regroup and make introductions be-fore we headed back. Unfortunately this is the part were I have to say, OH NOOOOOOO! After we all had fun introducing ourselves in the group it happened. Johnny called out a name - Kathy - I looked around like every-one else to see who Kathy was and it suddenly felt like the parting of the red sea. It felt like everyone around me had taken a step backwards and there I was… the Kathy that had

First off, let me say thank you to SNHOG, LV Harley-Davidson Dealership & Mount Charleston Resort for the great lunch. My compliments & apprecia-tion also to the Road Cap-tains who did a great job in keeping us all safe and together to enjoy the day! It was a great day for a ride. We started off at LVHD#1 in the morning and before we even got started I was impressed at how well everything was explained to all so that those of us who are new to group rid-ing new what to expect.

been called out ... OH NOOOO! And here we are. I was the chosen one to write the meet and greet article of this month. I of course, have never writ-ten anything in my life so this is painful. My hus-band John got a great kick out of this and is still laughing at my predica-ment. He is a sick man… (grin). For the rest of you, my apologies for the bor-ing read. John is the story teller in our family. He can keep you laughing for hours. Distorted minds work well that way. (grin.)

Historical Help… By Marilyn Hastie Home, Sturgis and Daytona trips. Please bring the pictures to any Chap-ter ride or meeting and give them to me or any of the Primary Officers. We also have a case at the front of the Dealership that we are always looking to fill, if you have a pin collec-tion, souvenirs, pictures that you do not want to part with and articles please come see me and we can make arrangements to add them to the case for temporary display.

Marilyn

We need pictures please! We the 2005 HOG Chapter are requesting pictures that you may be willing to give to the Chapter so that we can make some His-torical picture albums. Our intention is to make some albums and have them available at the Chapter meetings to share with other members! The prob-lem is so far we are short on pictures!! So we would really appreciate it, if you have any pictures that you are willing to part with. We would love to put them in the albums. Please also attach a note saying who what and where they are from so that captions can be attached. We are especially looking for pictures of members, articles from the 2003 Ride

Road Captains...cont.

As for the ride back, it was perfect. More beautiful scenery along the way, which of course, the back seat riders thoroughly enjoyed. All those that were riding had to pay close attention to all the other riders, which is no easy feat so I am sure they didn’t get to see all there was to see. My compliments and respect to everyone on the ride. It was a true pleasure getting to ride with you. I enjoyed meeting some great people and look forward to getting to know more of you through the many fun chapter func-tions.

Those little mistakes as we all know can be costly! As always Ride Safe and above all Have Fun, Enjoy the summer vacation times, we all need a break and this is the time that most of us get to do that. We will see some of you at the local rides and some at the meetings and we look forward to seeing all back after the vacation season.

J The Director, Assistant Director, Ambassadors and Road Captains are probably the Officers you recognize the most. They are the most visible, especially at the monthly meeting and on rides. But all of Our Officers are very important to the Chapter! The efforts of these individuals are appreciated by the Dealership, Fellow Officers and Our Chapter Members. They do it because they want to, but every now and again it is nice to hear and say… To our Southern Ne-vada HOG Officers… THANK YOU for your continued commitment, support and volunteering your time!!

Kevin

As many of you already know, our Southern Ne-vada HOG Officers Core is made up of Chapter Members (like you) who VOLUNTEER their time to support Our Chapter (ALL of US). It is something

the Officer volunteers do because they want to… not have to. And we do it because Our Chapter is what WE make of it! We have our Primary Officers: Director, Assistant Directors, Administrative Assistant, Secretary and Treasurer. Our Board of Directors: Director, Assistant Direc-tors, Administrative Assistant, Secretary, Treas-urer, Lead Road Captain and Activities Officer. Other Officers: Road Captains, Ambassadors, Edi-tor, Historians, Photographers and Membership Officer. To become an Officer you have to be a member for at least 6 months, attend meetings, rides and be willing to actively commit your time for at least one year. For some Officers, you attend more than

Really Important Business Directory Update You’ll find the latest copy for 2005 of our Business Directory in your Silver Eagle News envelope. We’d sure like to see more of you who have business or services advertise in the Silver Eagle News. Happens to be the least expensive way known to man to get your business information out to more than 1,000 folks each month!! (And when I say more, I really mean MORE!! If you look at the Business Directory, you’ll notice that it takes 10 to 12 ads to fill a page...so we would really like to see at least 10 to 12...or 20 to 24 more business cards to completely fill those pages!!) If you would like to advertise, the rates are as follows: $30 for 3 months (3 months is the minimum); $50 for 6 months; and $90 for 12 months. Call Pat (243-0443) to secure a spot, and send two business cards and a check to the Chapter PO Box listed on the back of this newsletter to Pat Crittenden’s attention.

As a Reminder... When you get around to sewing on your Chapter patches (see the back page of the Silver Eagle News for sizes and prices from the SN H.O.G. “Store”)...remember that all three patches (your central H.O.G. patch and SN Chapter and Las Vegas rockers SHOULD BE TOUCHING)...There’s a reason...it’s to distinguish our patch from the “three-patch” (or 1% MCs)...and to abide by H.O.G. regulations for displaying your patch...wear it proudly...and correctly!!
