YFC NSWLETTER Vol 1. Issue 1, July 2010
Fifteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time, Year CHe answered: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind’; and ‘Love your neighbour as yourself’.” Luke 10:27
OLC NSW DELEGATION: This week we will be sending off 134 of our brothers & sisters going to the Oceania Leaders Conference 2010 in Hamilton, New Zealand!
ONE in Christ! On June 12, YFC NSW had its 16th Anniversary, celebrating it with the whole sector with one full day of fun and inspiration. Patrick Dunshea, a household leader from Sydney East Cluster, shares...
How could I possibly describe ‘One’? The day had brought my brothers and sisters from all over NSW to one place, and it was awesome seeing them all - some I knew, some I got to know, and some I still didn’t have the privilege of meeting. Not only was it fun, but the day had a powerful underlying message – that we should live as ‘One’; as one community, as one faith, and most importantly, as one with Jesus Christ.
This day inspired me, because it taught me to dream, and not just dream, but dream big! That we should follow our dreams! And that we should LIVE God’s dream! The day was jam packed – talks, sessions, dancing, songs, the Holy Mass, and a party. The sessions were engaging and inspiring, clever and witty. They highlighted how YFC needs to dream big in order to achieve our goals; how we must not settle for second best, and how we should live as one community. So it shouldn’t matter what chapter you came from, because we are all brothers and sisters in Christ, and therefore, one family. The best part of the day would have to be
the Mass; to be able to celebrate Mass with my fellow brothers and sisters - it was a beautiful scene to be able to see. My most dominant memory of the Mass was the choir singing ‘We Will Fight’. They sang with such vigour and passion; it was like they were sending a catch cry, making a pledge, that we will fight for our God and bring Him victory after victory, and we will do it as One YFC New South Wales.
Did I mention the party? Oh, yes I did! And what a party is was! There were so many gifts shared that night, and so many victories from so many different chapters. Praise God! There was dancing, skits, prizes and food! And a shout out to Sydney East [Cluster]! I love you guys! You inspire me every day. I am so proud of how you’ve grown! Both in number and in Spirit! May God bless your future victories and all the victories of New South Wales!
Brothers and sisters, let us, as One community in Christ, go out and bring all the nations to Him and make our dreams, His dreams a reality!

Not going to OLC? Come to SCENE 2010!Each year, the Sydney Catholic Archdiocese runs an event called SCENE once a year to relive the excitement, passion and wisdom that Australia experienced during World Youth Day in 2008.This year, Scene will be on once again from the 12th to 18th of July with events each day from
early morning and into the evening. It’ll be on right in the middle of school holidays! So if you can’t attend OLC this year, and want to do something exciting with your fellow YFC
members these holidays, organise a city outing for your chapter during SCENE week!We invite you especially to come and show your support for YFC on Monday 12th of July where YFC dancers and singers will be performing at Martin Place in Sydney CBD around 12pm for the
street evangelisation event! More information on Scene and all the events can be found on the official Scene website at
http://www.scene.org.au
Knight of Honour17th of April 2010, when the YFC Coordinators had their unforgettable night – an awesome night full of surprises, unlike the usual parents honouring where Coords are busy, and sometimes out of sight as they prepare and organise food for their chapter’s parents behind the scene, this night was the night when they were all dressed up, relaxed, and seated in a nicely set table – no cooking to do and *off limits* from the kitchen. It was memorable because all the ‘unsaid’ appreciation of the Coords’ children/grandchildren was disclosed. One Coord uttered “It was an unexplained feeling when you hear your kids honouring you in front of so many people. We thought all the while, that they don’t appreciate what we as parents do for them, but I was wrong – it was there hidden in their hearts, just waiting for a chance to speak it out.”
The YFC NSW Sector leadership was behind this event. Thank God for them. These leaders did what the Coordinators usually do – prepare and serve the food. Most of the time (and unintentionally), the youth’s actions look as if it doesn’t show appreciation to their respective Coords, but this does not mean they don’t love them. The love is always there, it’s a given, like with our children. Most of us were teary-eyed, watching and listening to our own children’s loving words of
apologies and thanksgiving – a time of reconciliation, of giving and forgiving – what a night!

I was blessed enough to serve as Assistant Team Leader for the YFC HSB Nepean Camp that happened in June. It was one of the smaller camps that I’ve served at, but also one of the most inspiring.
Seeing my school peers being interested in and so passionate for God was different from the normal environment of being with them on a normal day to day basis [at school]. I found this to be the most inspiring part.
It was also humbling, personally, as four out of five of the participants were people who I used to go to school with, and normally it would be the same inferiority complex when talking to people a year under you, but with God challenging me to act as their role model, it enabled me to not only be a better person but to see that God is indeed in all of us!
