Hey there Key Clubbers! Hope you’re all having a great summer. Though it may be summer, many of you continue to serve our community. Keep up that burning spirit! This month, not a lot has gone on, but we did hold a joint DCM on July 17th. All the LTGs were proud to see their clubs take time out of their day to come. At the DCM we discussed many things such as the theme for RTC and Fall Rally. We included dues/fees and the date/place for RTC and also had Circle K guest speakers. Be sure to let your members know the news about what we’ve discussed. That’s it for now phoenixes! Have a fun summer!

Meet Your New Division Leadership Team AKA Team BOO-WEE

Typically, I don't like describing myself because I never actually know what to say for these sorts of things. I mean, other than a narcissus, who actually enjoys talking about themself and actually knows what to say? So, with that said, hey all I'm Wardell Freeman and I'm Division 28 North's Executive Assistant and I can say that I'm truly excited to serve our division this coming year! I love helping out whenever and however I can and by being on the Division Leadership Team (AKA Team Boo-Wee) I hope to further help and assist not only our division as a whole but our clubs. As a part of the Division Leadership Team, I really hope to connect with all of the clubs and ensure that they have as many opportunities for service events as possible. As far as I'm concerned, I guess you can say I'm a hard worker. I love working in groups because I seem to be able to stem ideas and further develop them with a team. Not only that, I think it's awesome to just do service because not only are you doing something to help but you're probably going to have fun doing it!

Hello Phoenixes! I am Tommy Gonzales, Division 28 North's Division Specialist. Now I am looking forward to a fantastic year, with all of you. My goals for the year is making you all spirited for RTC and Fall Rally. Us Phoenixes have to win the spirit stick at Fall Rally! I want YOU the audience reading this to practice the cheers and chants. More will come as I think of new ones. Other than winning the Fall Rally spirit stick and making you phoenixes spirited; I would absolutely love to serve all of you as best as I can with service, fundraisers, and SPIRIT. Now, if you wonder how I act and how I am: I am a silly, crazy, gamer, talkative, spirited, caring, and loving person. If you want to talk to someone, don't mind talking to me. I always like a good conversation. Anyways looking forward to a fantastic year! Hope y'all actually read this and if you did I hope you enjoyed it!

Hello everyone, I am Maria Keang. I'm the Division 28 North's Division Secretary! It is nice that I am able to be a part of Key Club and help it make it a better year. I am from East Career and Technical Academy. My interests are anime, gaming, sleeping, etc! My goal for this year would be making Key Club a lot more fun for everyone by finding more ways to help the community and being able to help out the members when they need it. The goal for being a secretary would be getting my work organized and finished to turn in on time. I am a nice, awkward, caring person. I enjoy conversations with new people. The more you get to know me, the weirder I get haha. Key Club will become a wonderful time this year with me and the Division 28 North Team! YAY, GO TEAM BOO WEE! So, these were some things you got to know about me and thanks for reading. (:

Hi my name is NumfonVilay and I’ll be your Division 28 North Tech Editor this upcoming year! I look forward to reading all your articles and seeing all your visuals. I’m always excited to see our division serving the community while having a blast. What I wish to accomplish with my position on the division leadership team is to connect the clubs as a whole and to create worthwhile and compelling newsletters that keep everyone in the division up to date with what every club is doing. As for my personality, I’m really friendly and open-minded so feel free to pitch me ideas for improvements on the newsletters or anything like that! Also I love meeting new people, so if you ever see me come and say hi! Like I said before, I want all of the clubs in our division to become more connected, therefore if you ever need any help, ask me or any of the other DLT members! I’m sure we’ll all be more than happy to help you out. Anyways I look forward to working with all of you. Let’s work hard and do our best, Phoenixes!

June…RECAP!

My First Key Leader Experience By: Daniel Lang (ATECH)

“Key Leader is just one of those life events you’ll never forget. To say the least, it was incredible. Upon arriving, we were welcomed by the facilitators and advisors (who were as chill as can be), and we almost immediately started hanging out with our fellow campers. Everyone welcomed each other without hesitation. Over the course of the weekend, we played ice-breakers and did all sorts of engaging activities that built our knowledge of the Key Leader skills: Integrity, Growth, Respect, Community, and Excellence. The memories born will be cherished, and the plethora of photos I took will be a real treat to look back through for ages to come.”

Last Key Leader By: MiyuAsami (ATECH)

“For my second year at Key Leader, I came back as student facilitator. Key Leader inspired me to push myself further in life. This is a place where you will never be left out. When people just meet each other, within the next hour it seems like you knew them for years. It’s amazing to see how new friendships build and we all get involved in helping one another become stronger leaders. Key Leader definitely opens you up to eventually share your personality to new friends. I thought to myself on the last day, that I didn’t push myself enough to lead like the other student facilitators. I found out on the way home, with those grams that we wrote to everyone to remind themselves how thankful we were, that I actually inspired others to be strong. I never knew I could be able to do this. Whether or not we had similar stories in our past, those people told me how they could look up to me. I knew that I grew much more confident in myself, although I’m going at a slow pace. I told myself, ‘Small steps go a long way, because no matter what, I am still moving forward to build my leadership.’ I shouldn’t have doubted myself before reading those grams. I knew I tried best and thought it wasn’t enough, but it truly was. As long as you try your best, and give it your all, you will always be a Key Leader.”

Missing Key Leader Already By: Wardell Freeman (Rancho)

“My Key Leader experience was in short a life changing one. It has opened my eyes to new possibilities and taught me more than just being a leader. From the personal workshops and the numerous group activities to just sitting around with other campers, I had a splendid time. If you want to have a good time while learning how to be a Key Leader, then I recommend everyone sign up for it! I can't wait to go back!”

Club Stories!

Advanced Technology Academy

The Kiwanis Meeting was really different from what I was expecting. I thought we were going to be just standing lecture hall or a sort like that. Also, the event being very early in the morning discouraged me to go. Little did I know the meeting was just like a Key Club meeting or even more enjoyable! Just like all meetings, there were some dull moments; nonetheless I would like to go again sometime in the near future. Although the Kiwanis meeting discussed some serious stuff, the mood was more enjoyable and light-hearted. We started out by eating a breakfast of our choice whether it was pancakes, waffles, or French toast. The people who are in Kiwanis are truly kind and inspiring. We got to meet different members at the Kiwanis meeting and they were all approaching. They appreciated that we took the time to attend the meeting. The Kiwanis President, Bill, discussed various service events, and they had Happy/Sad Change also! Some of the events included fireworks booths, and then we had a guess speaker from Veterans Village. The Happy/Sad Change was my favorite part, personally, because of the way the adults told their stories and how their days were hilarious and interesting! They talked about everyday life, and they still sounded childish at heart (which was nice to hear). In the end, it was a lot of fun, and we got to get business cards for future service events. It was a great experience because it really changed my mind on Kiwanis meetings.

This summer was my first time volunteering at the hospital. They told us that we had to learn how to be independent workers and find our own work to do there since we would not have anyone specifically directing us, so I was pretty nervous. After getting the hang of things, I truly enjoy getting to help out the patients and the many hardworking nurses there who already have their hands full with so many jobs to do. It is an absolutely wonderful hands-on volunteer experience, and I encourage any member to try it over the summer as it is a wonderful opportunity to able to help out more of those who are ill and in need in their community and give back to the people at the hospital who are diligently taking care of us. “International Convention was a truly wonderful experience. The first four days of ICON were probably the most fun because Cali-Nev-Ha Key Clubbers went on a district tour throughout Washington D.C. We were able to visit George Washington's house, Abraham Lincoln's memorial, the Capital Building, and many more sight-seeing events. After the tour came the start of International Conventional. Experiencing ICON for the first time was really lesson learning. It really hit me how big Key Club really is and that there are Key Clubs all over the world. At ICON I got the opportunity to elect the International Board, vote on changes to International By-laws, and meet other Key Clubbers from other Districts. It was really dawning how different Key Club was in other states and countries. I will never forget an experience like ICON where you truly get to see Key Club as a whole.” Christopher Bui, Atech

Joint DCM!

“July Joint DCM was an amazing learning experience and was great way to way to see and meet with fellow key club members over the summer. We were given an amazing opportunity to see the progress of other clubs and it would help better our community learning from other clubs. We were given a better understanding of Circle K and current Circle K members were able to describe all their experiences they had with the organization. I had a lot of fun being able to see friends from all over the valley and I had another great opportunity to meet new people. Since the meeting took place outdoors, we had to deal with the heat but us key clubbers were able to stand it. This was my first Joint DCM experience and I am able to say that I am very happy that I was able to attend it. I am looking forward to the next Joint DCM that will be.”

“Winning the D28N spirit stick because it brought our club closer together! And Attending my first fall rally!”

“Volunteering and going to events because I was able to meet and get close to different people!”

“I think my favorite experience of Key Club was attending Key Leader. I have made life changing decisions as well as friendships that will last a lifetime. I found out more about myself that I never knew before. Key Leader helped me become more aware of others, so that I can become a better leader. By attending Key Leader 2013, I have improved myself in order to greatly affect others. This is one Key Club event you will have to experience yourself!”

The best experience during my 12-13 school year in key club was by far running for Atech's Secretary for the 13-14 year. It wasn't just taking a big step into building my leadership skills and getting more involved in key club. That moment I decided what I wanted to do, was when I realized it was just a first step in making a change and influencing my fellow members into making the change too. It was setting me up for the best year of key club I could ever look forward to in the upcoming year.
