Thoughts From Incoming Chairman Bob Layton

MEET AND GREET (cont. from page 1) CHAMBER PARTNERSHIP: FALL LIFESTYLES EXPO

My name is Bob Layton and I am the incoming Chairman for the Board of Directors of the Chino Valley Area Chamber of Commerce. The Chamber of Commerce is like a very large family with many past Chairmen still being members; it’s a privilege to be a part of it.

In 2008 when I started my business, Bob’s Complete Automotive Repair LLC, I was approached by the Chamber to become a member of this very unique business community. I joined not knowing how much a part of this Cham-ber I would become, but more importantly I joined not knowing how much knowledge, opportunity and success this Chamber would bring to my young, fledgling business. I can look you in the eyes and tell you, that I would not be here today without this unique mentoring relationship. I find my Chamber membership to be much more than a monthly luncheon networking opportunity.

This Chamber helped my young business get off the ground with the basic nuts and bolts of how to run a busi-ness. I attended many “Brown Bag” classes that were being offered on a variety of topics such as: How to write a basic business plan; How to write-up/counsel an employee; Correct employee interviewing protocols; and How to deal with the difficult customer.

These classes gave real-world tools to deal with situations that every business owner has to face. I remember being impressed that these classes were attended by established business owners & sometimes taught by the town officials such as the late Mayor Jim Bunker.

I'm a graduate of the first Citizens Academy taught by this Chamber. The Citizens Academy to me is like taking a “HOW SMALL TOWN GOV-ERNMENT WORKS - 101 CLASS” This class was extremely eye-opening as you cannot be successful without this basic knowledge.

As your Chairman, one of my goals is to continue to work with our Chamber members and our local government. Continue to build even stronger relations by strengthening the local economy. Encourage people to shop local year-round! Together we can stop leakage.

Tracie, I and the Board of Directors will continue to represent your political business interest with local / state government. Together we will continue to support the schools and service organizations that so greatly enrich our community.

I ask and challenge all members to stay connected with the Chamber throughout the year. Come visit our local office, attend the monthly luncheons, evening mixers and quarterly “Women in Business” luncheon and business education (BizEd) breakfast. Take advantage of our new Chamber Master software that enhances your membership on our website - launch your own app so that you can use your mobile device to get information on events and hot deals. Join us on Facebook. We also have an email newsletter to keep you updated on that on what's going on in your Chamber.

If I can assist you in anyway personally or through my business, please do not hesitate to let me know. My e-mail is [email protected], phone number: 928-830-1061. I'm looking forward to a great year. Thank you for choosing me as Chairman of the Chino Valley Area Chamber of Com-merce.

Sincerely, Bob Layton

Board Chairman 2014-2015

JUNE ACTIVITY

Summer vacation brought many travelers to the CVACC Visitor Center in June, includ-ing five Arizona residents, two couples from Germany, and those traveling from Califor-nia, Colorado, Illinois, North Dakota and Wis-consin. The Visitor Center also assisted many local residents, new residents and prospec-tive residents with local business referrals, maps and travel information.

Relocation inquiries were received and packets sent out to residents of Illinois, Indi-ana, New Mexico, South Dakota and Wyo-ming.

The Chino Valley Area Chamber of Commerce is pleased to present its 2013-14 Annual Report of accomplishments, which fall within the Core Competencies established for Chambers of Commerce. At 270 members strong, we are an active and growing Chamber. As our name suggests, we serve members from Chino Valley, Prescott, Prescott Valley and beyond, and have been serving the area for 29 years. Our website has more than 350,000 hits annually with an average of 4,000+ visitors per month, an impressive total for a rural Chamber of Commerce. Future website upgrades are planned. Membership service and representation are the focus of the Chamber’s efforts, as well as promoting Chino Valley and its surrounding area. Many im-portant partnerships have been formed which encourage continued member involvement and establish Chino Valley as a key player in area issues. The Chamber continued its focus on cost saving efforts while increasing its service to members. The introduction of ChamberMaster software allowed us to better organize our membership information and provided online bill-pay and registration for events and membership investment dues. More importantly, ChamberMaster has given our members a chance to pro-mote themselves on the Chamber’s website. Members can now directly post and promote their “hot deals,” “events,” “news releases,” “member to member dis-counts,” “jobs,” and coming soon will be “MarketSpace.” The addition of “MyChamberApp” for mobile devices now allows members to view the Member-ship Directory, events and hot deals in a mobile format. The Chamber also capitalized on several other promotional opportunities for our members, such as the weekly “Talk of the Town” radio show, created low-cost newsletter advertising and reduced the cost of flyer insertion. Always mindful of giving members the best value for their membership in-vestment, your Chamber will continue its mission to promote economic growth, to serve as the voice for the business community and to work to enhance the quality of life for Chino Valley. Thank you, members, for your contributions to the Chamber’s 2013-14 ac-complishments. We are here for you, but we couldn’t do it without you.

The Chamber’s Community Profile book with new and updated local information goes to print very soon, and each Chamber member is strongly encour-aged to update their Membership Directory listing as now found on the Chamber’s website by July 25 so that current information will be listed. This one-time information update will ensure your business information is listed correctly in the Membership Directory, on our website and in all communications and publications from the Chamber. Information to be updated includes business name or description, representatives, mailing ad-dress, phone numbers and email addresses. Visit our website at www.chinovalley.org and

click on Member Log-in across the top menu. Enter your user name and password to begin making these important updates. If you cannot access the system, call the Chamber at 636-2493 and we will assist with your log-in process. The Community Profile, along with its companion map of Chi-no Valley, is mailed to all those requesting information about our area, given to travelers who stop at the Visitor Center and stocked at our local banks, hotels, restaurants and physician and dentist offices. The community book will also have a home on the Cham-ber website where it can reach an average 30,000 people per month. Ad sales for this book end in July. To advertise, contact Village Profile representative Diana Fenrich at 414-788-8557, or leave a message with the Chamber at 636-2493.
