I. Curricular Aspects:

New syllabus was introduced for Botany Core and Complementary from 2015

admission onwards as per University norms.

The Department of Environmental Sciences has started UGC-NET coaching facility.

II. Teaching Learning and Evaluation

Activities conducted by Various departments:

The Department of Botany launched the Digital Library with around 300 e-books,

PPTs and videos in 2016.

The Department of Environmental Sciences has started a ‘one-to-one’ interaction with

the PG students to provide them support in their scholastic activity

The Department of Environmental Sciences has compiled a ‘Lab Safety Manual’

including all the routine chemicals used in the laboratory of the Department.

The Faculty and students of the department of Environmental Sciences visited

Nuclear Power Plant at Koodankulam, Kanyakumari District, Tamilnadu, on

03.09.2015. The tour offered a wonderful insight into the functioning of nuclear

reactor, its maintenance facilities available and the protocols to be followed during

emergency. Following visit to Koodamkulam, the entire team went on for a field visit

to Kanyakumari and collected geological and ecological specimens. The team had a

wonderful opportunity to see the sunset at Sunset point, Kanyakumari and to see the

Thriveni Sangamam.

The Faculty and students of the department of Environmental Sciences visited the

Jawaharlal Nehru Tropical Botanical Garden and Research Institute (JNTBGRI) on

10.07.2015. The team visited different labs and the trip to various gardens including

fern, Cactus and bamboo.

An exhibition ‘Planta Vista’ was organized by the department of Botany on 1st August

2016.

NICE - Networking in Communicative English - the thirty-hour course with an

emphasis on communication skills in English was designed to complement the

grammar classes of the ELSA-English Language Skill Acquisition programme

began on December 5, 2015 and ended on March 31, 2016 under the aegis of the

Department. of English.. 46 students registered for the course which was taught by

the renowned trainer in English Communication Skills, Ms. Jaya Chandrasekhar and

coordinated by Ms. Gurdeep KaurVenu, Director, Pinnacle Radiance Academy and

the Course Coordinator, Ms. Sapna Srinivas, Assistant Professor, Department of

English.

The activities of the Department of History and Politics for the academic year 2015-

16 was inaugurated on August 4 2015. The inauguration was officially done by

University of Kerala Syndicate member ShriAkhil J S.Dr.Venu Mohan, Assistant

Professor and Head of Institute of Distance Education, University of Kerala delivered

the Presidential Address.

A Poster exhibition was organized by the department. of History and Politics based on

the themes “Subash Chandra Bose and the Ghadar Revolutionary Party”. This

was conducted in connection with the 116 birth Annversary of Bose which was on 23

January 2016. Mr. Pradeep Pillai, Bureau Chief of Times Now channel inaugurated

this event.

An Inter Departmental Quiz was conducted in the department. of Physics.

An Exhibition “Tharang” was organized by the students of Physics

The first milestone in activities of the department started with a grand exhibition

named “HISTORIA 2015” which was held on August 7 2015. Rev. Mother Mary

Elma the College Manager inaugurated the exhibition. This exhibition “HISTORIA

2015” proved the real historical spirit of the department by creating an atmosphere of

a museum displayed with ancient antiques along with original digitized historical

material displayed by the Kerala state Archives Department. The Geology department

of University of Kerala presented a wide variety of geological materials like graphite,

limestone etc. which imparted geological knowledge. The exhibition gained

popularity through media like RED FM, Kerala Kaumidi, Mathrubhumi, ACV

channel etc. The students of the department actively participated in this exhibition.

The department of History organized the annual Inter departmental National

Integration Programme from 19 to 21 August 2015. The competitons started on 19

August 2015 with Elocution, Story writing, Debate etc. and on 20 August 2015 there

was Poster making and Collage. On 21 August 2015, the department organized a

grand event with Patriotic Song, Patriotic Dance, Tableau, Skit competitions etc. This

event instilled patriotic spirit among the students.

In connection with International Human Rights Day, the department organized a

poster making competition on 10, December 2015. It was an inter-departmental

competition. Thereby, the department created an awareness on Human rights and the

violations happening in society, among the students of the college.

On 15th and 16th December, the Department organized a Poster exhibition on the

themes “Road to Rio Olympics 2016 & Milestones in Indian Cricket”. The college

Principal Dr. Sheela Mary Xavier inaugurated the same.

Another Poster exhibition was organized based on the themes “Subash Chandra

Bose and the Ghadar Revolutionary Party”. This was conducted in connection

with the 116 birth Anniversary of Bose which was on 23 January 2016. Mr. Pradeep

Pillai, Bureau Chief of Times Now channel inaugurated this event. The posters were

compiled by Prof. Vasisht MC, HOD, Malabar Christian College, Kozhikode.

The Department. Of History Conducted Talks In Connection With The Open Course

On Women Empowerment

World Day Against Child Labour was celebrated and a Poster making competition

was conducted by the department. of History and Politics on “Child Labour” on 12th

June 2015.

The Economic Association was inaugurated on 15th June 2015 by Dr. Jose Sebastian

and delivered a talk on “Strength and Weakness of Direct Tax in India”.

Prof. Khyrunnisa (Rtd), All Saints’ College inaugurated the Reading Day

Celebration of the department. of Economics on 19 June 2015 and prizes were

distributed by Rev. Mother Mary Elma, Manager, All Saints College. Prizes were

given to the winners of the Reading Contest conducted as part of the Reading Day

celebration.

The National Statistical Day Celebration by the department. of Economics was

inaugurated by Dr. Nagaraja Naidu, Member, Kerala State Public Expenditure

Review Committee.

The department. of Economics Organized Debate competition on the topic “ NITI

AAYOG: Is It Old Wine In A New Bottle”and an Essay writing competition on the

topic “From The Planning Commission To The NITI Aayog” was conducted .

The department. of Economics also Organized a “DIGITAL LITERACY DRIVE”

on 7 July 2015 by the Literacy Mission in association with the P N Panicker

Foundation, Kerala. The “Digital Literacy Drive” was inaugurated by Mr. N.

Balagopal, Vice Chairman, P N Panicker Foundation. He delivered a speech on

“Digital Literacy and Skill Development for Employability”.

The ‘Chemistry Association’ was formally inaugurated by Dr. Sadhasivan. S,

Professor HOD, Department of Chemistry, University College, Thiruvananthapuram,

on 9-10-2014.The inauguration was followed by a lecture on ‘Group Theory’. The

departmental magazine “CHEMI-OUTLOOK” was released on the same day.

The Department of Chemistry conducted Chemistry Exhibition "CHEMEX 2015-

2016 " on 10/2/2016. The exhibition was inaugurated by Dr. Sheela Mary Xavier,

Principle, All Saints’ College, Thiruvananthapuram

The Commerce Association was inaugurated on 8th September 2015, by our Manager

Rev. Mother Mary Elma. On this momentous day, ‘PRAGYA’ the book bank scheme

and the commerce exhibition, ‘DRISHYA’ was also inaugurated.

The department. of Commerce conducted an awareness session on ERP and benefits

of SAP-KA programme was given by G-Tec Education on 22/6/2015.

A French Quiz Competition was conducted as part of the French National

Day Celebrations on 14th July 2015.

A Singing and Recitation Competition by the department of French was also

conducted on 18th September 2015 at All Saints’ College.

French Language Association was inaugurated on 13th October 2015

The Language Lab was used to conduct online test to improve the level of French and

also to improve the pronunciation of Students of the students of Hindi department.

The Department of Hindi celebrated ‘Hindi Diwas’ on 14th September 2015. Several

Programmes such as Debate, Quiz, Recitation, Drama etc were conducted on the same

day.

The Department of Hindi commenced a Debate Club on 13th November 2015.

The Department of Hindi started a Drama Club on 4th December 2015

Activities of the mathematics association for the year 2015-16 was inaugurated on 6-

7-2015

The mathematics students were taken for the Space Exhibition conducted by ISRO at

Kanakakunnu

Department organized the mathematics exhibition “Mathemagic-Re-loaded” on

3-03- 2016

The Department organized an Inter collegiate Mathematics Quiz competition on 22-

01-2016

The Physics Association was inaugurated by Dr. Geetha Ramkumar, Scientist, Space

Physics Laboratory, Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre, Trivandrum and delivered a talk

on ‘Atmospheric probing techniques’

An MOU was signed with G-Tec Education (SAP) on 5/1/2016 by the department. of

Commerce. The course is ‘Certification in Organizational ERP- User and Account’.15

students joined the course and successfully completed the course with A+.

An MOU was signed between the Department of Environmental Sciences and

International and Interuniversity Centre for Natural Resource Management,

University of Kerala. This link promises partnership between the two institutions in

academic progress of students and generating research interest among them.

The Department of Environmental Sciences organized a seminar in relation to World

Ozone day on 14.09.2015. Dr. MuvveVenkataRamana, Scientist, Indian Institute of

Space Science and Technology inaugurated the event and he delivered a very

informative lecture on significance of ozone with reference to Ozone Depletion.

A National Seminar on ‘Insight into Plant Science Research’ was organized by the

department of Botany on 20th July, 2016. First leads talk was given by Dr. S Lakshmi

Devi, Founder & Ex-Principal, ShaheedRajguru College of Applied Sciences for

Women &Hony. Director, Centre for Entrepreneurship and Career Oriented Program,

University of Delhi on the topic ‘Genes to transgenics’. Second lead talk was given by

Dr. Raju Antony, Technical Officer, JNTBGRI on ‘Taxonomy of Ferns and

Lycophytes of Western Ghats’.

Experiential Learning” from the Rajadhani Business School on 11/3/2016.

Dr. D. Sherlyof the department of Zoology organized a 2-day workshop “Edufest-

2015” sponsored by the Department of Fisheries on 9 and 10, September, 2015. The

main aim of this workshop was to create awareness among the students receiving the

Fisheries Scholarship about the scopes and ways for higher education.

Programmes like Aqua Show-2016 organisedby the department. of Zoology with the

financial support rendered by the Department of Fisheries helped the students in

updating the knowledge about the marine and fresh water organisms in the live

environment

A 3-day exhibition on Ornamental Marine and Fresh water fishes was jointly

organized by the Department of Fisheries and Department of Zoology, ASC from 19-

21, January, 2016 in the College Recreation Hall. The aim of this exhibition was to

enhance the knowledge of the students and science enthusiasts about this rapidly

growing field.

An Investor awareness programme by the department of Commerce was conducted by

Finmark- Leaders in Financial Market Education on 12/2/2016. Mr. Sivaram

Ravindran, Business Development Manager had an interactive session with the

students.

Mr. Anil P.S, Associate Professor, Ganam School of Business, Thanjavoor briefed the

students of commerce regarding the professional courses open for them on 29/2/2016.

A talk on “Importance of Mental Health and Mental Illness seen in Humans” was

delivered by Dr. Kiran.P.S., Psychiatrist, Nodal Officer, National Mental Health

Programme for the students of Open Course of Zoology “Public Health and Hygiene”

on 10, September, 2015. The programme created an opportunity for the students to

interact with a medical professional and clear their doubts.

Smt. Sithara Vijayan, Co-coordinator of Campus France interacted with the French

department. students on the topic “Higher Studies in France” on 6th August 2015. She

referred different scholarship programmes available.

IV. Infrastructure and Learning Resources

Infrastructural Facilities Added:

The P.G Department of English Library has received a boost with over fifty DVD

titles added. The collection of Films include National Award Winning films such as

Fandry, Court, etc, in languages as diverse as Malayalam, Hindi, Marathi etc. This is

part of the department’s initiative to instil critical abilities in students and to sensitise

them to social issues.The Library has also added around 600 e-books to the digital

collection. Thereby, students have access to alternative methods of reading.

A Zoological Museum and an Instrumentation Room is set up by the Zoology

Department in the lab.

The department. of Envt. Sciences has set up a FOSS – GIS based studies for MSc

project work. A well equipped Geoinformatics lab has been set up for the purpose.

An environmental microbiology lab is also set up for molecular and microbial work

and also an environmental Chemistry lab where water and soil analysis can be carried

out by the M.Sc students.

Activities of the students :

A Study tour was conducted for the final year studentsof the department of Botany to

Kodaikanal, Cumbum, Theni &Vagamon from September1 - 4, 2015. The students

were accompanied by our faculty members Dr. Nisha K K and Smt. Cinthya

Christopher.

Four final year Botany students along with two faculty members Ms. Sharanya K P

and Ms. Lekshmy participated in the lecture organized by JNTBGRI, Palode in

commemoration of 100th year of Gamble publication on 18th December, 2015.

The DC III students of the department of Commerce released the manuscript

The Commerce Department documentary ‘ON SET –The Beginning’ was released on

11th February 2016. The documentary gives an account of the history of the

department and its activities. The documentary was directed by Surya S Nair and

Water Resources Management Programme - A team of 5 students from different

disciplines under the mentorship of Dr. Nisha K K of the department of Botany

participated in the programme whose main aim was to encourage students to develop

a multi-stakeholder, evidence-based, participative, practically implementable

Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM) proposal. Our team won first prize

in the Southern Region Competiton and competed along with 9 other teams from all

over India in the National Competition held on 28th January 2016 at India Habitat

Centre, New Delhi

An awareness campaign in the college on water resource management was done by

the department of Botany along with the students of Inter University Competition on

Water Resource Management

Youth Unite for Voluntary Action (YUVA) is an annual youth meet organized by

The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) to bring together college students, youth

groups, experts and stakeholders working towards environment conservation. Three

students of our college along with Dr. Nisha K K of the department of Botany

participated in the meet.

All India Global Energy Students Parliament was organized by The Isa Viswa

Prajnana Trust and the State Institute of Languages, Govt of Kerala, in association

with the Government of India (CRWC). The topic of the Students Energy Parliament

2016 was “Total Education”. Two members of faculty from our college along with

three student representatives participated in the parliament.

The students of Physics released the Departmental magazine ‘ Ripples’

The Student Manuscript “Vision” was released by the students of Physics

The Third volume of “BHOONDEM” manuscript prepared by the students of Hindi

was released on 01.03.2016.

EXTENSION ACTIVITIES

Various literary competitions were conducted under the aegis of the literary club

from 10-02-2016 to 20-02-2016. Prize winners were selected to represent the College

at the University Youth Festival.

As the part of extension activity of the Health Club a talk was given by Dr.

Shameena from KIMS wellness clinic about Skin care for the youth on12th October

2015.

Yoga class was taken by Lekshmi Nair on 11th February 2016 in the department of

Mathematics as an extension activity programme.

As an Institutional Social activity for the uplift of the minority community students,

Dr. D. Sherly, of the department. of zoology the Co-ordinator for the Add-on-course

on “Ornamental Fish culture and Aquarium Maintenance” is continuing successfully

the Certificate and Diploma Courses for the students of all disciplines along with the

main course during their academic period from 2010 till date.

The Nature club members of the zoology department published a book on the 4

project work done by the members. The aim of the work was to create awareness

among the members about the various ecosystems and their importance.

Five students from S5 Mathematics took support classes in mathematics for

financially backward students of vettucaud St Marys school as part of their extension

activity.

The students of the department. Of Physics under the Students Planning Forum took

classes in the nearby Government School, Karikkakom to engage high school level

classes and instigate scientific temper among them.

Raneisha Justin of the Physics Department prepared a book containing the list of

Nobel Laureates in Physics for last twenty years

The students of the Physics department conducted an Energy Conservation

Campaign for the local people of Karikkakom locality . They conducted awareness

class on energy conservation and distributed notices and posters on energy

management. The department. released the following Magazines –

The Sixth Sense, The All Saints’ College Quiz Club 2015-2016

The first meeting of the academic year 2015-2016 was held on June 17, 2015. New

members were initiated into the club with a brief introduction on the workings of the

club and its objectives. The enthusiastic student secretaries prepared a series of

questions and answers on Indian Post and a card with a question was given to each

student for an impromptu question and answer session.

The first-year students were warmly welcomed with a brief orientation about the club

in the third meeting. 36 students are members of the club.

On 6th November, the Community Health Club under the Department of Commerce

in association with AVE Social Centre, Kerala Social Security Mission and Malabar

Gold & Diamonds conducted a free medical camp on 'Diagnosis of related lifestyle

diseases'.

Sri B Sudheendra Kumar, District Judge and Chairman of the District Legal Services

Authority inaugurated the programme sponsored by District Legal Services Authority.

On 24th November 2015 the Community Health Club under the Department of

Commerce in collaboration with Swasti foundation conducted a free Medical camp

on"Breast Cancer Detection". The days programme was inaugurated by the

famous magician Mr. GopinathMuthukadu. Rev. Mother Mary Elma addressed the

gathering. Dr Paul Augustine( Additional Professor Division of Surgical Oncology,

RCC), Dr Reji Paul (Professor of Community Medicine Gokulam Medical College

and the Coordinator of Snehathaalam), Dr Anil Bindhu (Professor of Community

Medicine Gokulam Medical College), Dr Shaliet Rose Sebastian, Dr Dhanuja and

Dr Susanna from Gokulam Medical College were the panel of doctors.

The Biodiversity club of the department. of Envt. Sciences organized a programme in

connection with the International Day of action for Rivers on 14.03.2016. The

renowned environmental activist Sri. V. J. Jose, (Greenpeace International appointed

River Keeper for Periyar) interacted with the students and they got an opportunity to

appreciate the efforts made to protect the river ecosystem and also had a very lively

session with film shows, documentaries and nadan pattu on the theme.

27th and 28th January, 2016 in the Campus and ‘Jaivavaividhya Radham’ an

initiative to help raise awareness among students on the rich biodiversity of Kerala

- As part of the observance of World Environment Day 2016, the Bhoomitrasena Club

organized an Inter Departmental Essay Writing and Poster Making competition on the

theme “Go Wild for Life”on 7th and 8th of June.

“Women on Wings” the Innovation Centre for Skill Development Training and

Upgradation was inaugurated by Shri. N. Balagopal,ViceChairman,P N Panicker

Foundation on ‘Skilling the Girl Youth for Productive Employment’ on 20 July

2015. The occasion also marks the official curtain raiser of “Kaushal All Saints’ ”, the

Start – Up initiative envisaged under “Women on Wings”. The Centre intends to

provide Certificate Courses on Skill Development Training under the newly

envisaged programme of ‘Women On Wings’ titled “Kaushal All Saints’”. The

Programme aims to create employable skills for the interested youth through

organizing a number of skill enhancement training programmes in different vocations

so as to enable them to venture into micro enterprises for the generation of income

and wealth.

A 5-day workshop “WOFCAM-III-2016” sponsored by the KSCSTE and

Department of Fisheries was organized by the Department of Zoology, All Saints’

College from 9 -13, February, 2016. Thirty unemployed women from the

neighbouring village of the college and the students of the add-on-course participated

in the workshop. The workshop created a platform for the students and unemployed

women to interact with the eminent experienced personalities who shared their work

experience in this field and also explained to them about the openings and scopes in

this field. The workshop also provided hands on training in aquarium construction to

the participants. The workshop helped the participants in gaining more practical

knowledge.

Activities of NSS 2015 -2016

During the academic year 2015-2016, programmes and activities were carried out by

the NSS units of All Saints College. They included campus cleaning, campus

gardening, inter department programmes, blood donation camps, competitions,

orientation programmes etc. During the period awareness programmes for students

and general public were conducted.

Skill development programme for 100 NSS volunteers.

Tribal village visit on 13-5-2015 and 15-5-2015 by 60 NSS volunteers.

On 5th JUNE 2015, NSS unit in our college organized a plantation program based on

ENVIRONMENTAL DAY and planted almost 150 plants in our college compound.

150 NSS volunteers actively participated in this program.

80 volunteers participated in a special interactive session on Environment and

Disaster management at college.

Donated folding cots, mattresses and pillows for the sick room of the college.

On 8th July we witnessed a blood donation camp by Sri Chithra hospital nearly 67

students donated their blood

Our program officer Ms.Vijayakumari conducted an orientation for all 1st semester

students in the college.

Campus gardening, cleaning of campus were carried out.

. Questionnaires were distributed for volunteers who carry the questions which

emphasizes socio economic conditions of tribes. This was used for the survey in tribal

villages through which we can work for the betterment of their life

Independence Day celebration was done our principal Dr.Sheela Mary Xavier hoisted

the national flag. NSS volunteers read messages on the occasion and sang patriotic

songs.

The house of a widow was renovated under the aegis of NSS oruveedu project. All the

students and faculty of our college donated generously for the project

On 30th September 2015 we the selected NSS volunteers attended GREEN

ASSEMBLY session organised by the Kerala ShastraSahityaParishat.

An NSS meeting was held for all volunteers.

Two NSS volunteers participated in the selection of volunteers for Pre Republic day

camp.

On October 1 GandhiJayanthi was celebrated with a rally on the topic plastic free

nation.The selected NSS volunteers of All Saints’ College arrived at the KochuVeli

railway station for railway station cleaning on October 2nd at sharp 8.15 a.m. There

were about 25 volunteers. The programme began at 9.30 a.m. The members took an

oath regarding the cleanliness of the railway station. The members took part in rally

which was done inside the railway station. Thereafter embers cleaned the

surroundings and three saplings were planted in front of the railway station.

Refreshment was provided to each member. With vote of thanks at 12.00 p.m. the

programme came to an end.

aid named SAVE A LIFE campaign. The campaign was organized by the 2009 batch

MBBS students of Trivandrum medical college in association with JANAMYTHRI,

motor vehicle department, IMA [Indian medical association]. Concept group was the

sponsor of the campaign and the venue was the old auditorium hall of Trivandrum.

On behalf of “CANCER AWARENESS DAY”, the 20 selected volunteers of All

Saint’s college had been attended a class on 8th November 2015,which was

conducted as a jointed venture by REGIONAL CANCER CENTER and NATIONAL

SERVICE SCHEME OF KERALA UNIVERSITY.

On account on WORLDS DIABETICS DAY on 14/11/2015 Saturday the selected

NSS members of our college assembled in front of Kawadiar Palace for an awareness

program and rally conducted by medical authorities. The program started in Kawadiar

CHARITABLE SOCIETY members conducted a STATE LEVEL DRAWING

COMPETITION on Samyuyam pastrol hall,stMarys pattom . The secretary of the

trust KalayapuramJose , his wife mini Jose and others authority members conducted

and hosted the programme. Selected volunteers volunteered the entire program.

On 23rd november an oral cancer awareness program were conducted in our college.

A training program was held on 24th November 2015 at morning 10.00 am at

Mahatma Gandhi collegeTvm. The class was about waste management which was a

PARISTHITHI MECHAPEDUTHAL EKADINA PARISHEELANA PARIPADY “.

The programme was inaugurated by Mrs. HemaMalini, the principal of MG College.

The other dignitaries present on the dais were Hon. Pattom ward councillor,

Mr.Subash Chandra Bose CCDU water resources and HOD of Botany department of

MG College. The first speech was delivered by Sri. Subash Chandra Bose. He

emphasized the importance of nature and also highlighted the relation of human with

nature. According to his opinion waste is nothing but wealthwhich is misplaced. After

this Pattom ward councillor addressed the gathering in which she suggested some

methods to protect ponds, rain water harvesting. Also she established her view point

on jaiva krishi. Funding for this survey programmes amsthana paristhithikal avastha

vedyanavakup. It is purely a government project. After giving instructions to how to

done a survey the programme mark an end at 1.00pm

A group NSS volunteers done tribal village visit to Amboori to evaluate their needs

and problems.

5 volunteers visited “Snehssadanam” a care home foe Alzheimer’s patients at

Thiruvallam.

Some volunteers visited an orphanage “MISSIONARIES OF CHARITY” and

brought food packets and some dresses for the kids below the age of 10.

An NSS meeting was held for all NSS volunteers in order to plan for the Annual

camp.

A voluntary blood donation camp was conducted, 71 students donated blood.

Constructed 2 toilets in the adopted village Karikkakam in collaboration with the

organization AVAI.

A group of NSS volunteers celebrated their newyear with the tribes in Vatchamaram.

Being a reason for ones smile is the most beautiful feeling in this world. For enjoying

this feel NSS unit of our college took initiative steps to make students aware of the

importance of organ donation. On 21/1/2016 a meeting held in our recreation hall at

sharp 12.45pm including all NSS volunteers. The awareness class was given by the

NSS unit secretary in the presence of our programme officer. “The value of life is not

in its duration but its donation. You are not important because of how long you live

you are important because of how effective you live”. This was the most striking

message which made students to thought deeply about the topic. After the class a

form which shows the willingness for the organ donation which is a project of Kerala

government yuvajana commission named MRITHASANJEEVANI was given to the

students to fill it up. The class marks an end at 1.30pm.

A TWO DAY INTER DEPARTMENTAL PROGRAMS WAS JOINTLY

ORGANISED BY NSS and Department of history, politics and economics. All

volunteers participated. Various competitions based on war and peacewere conducted

such as debate, poetry, quiz, skit, elocution and poster making.

On January 26, 66th republic day celebration was conducted. Our principal hoisted

the flag this was followed by speeches in English, Hindi and Malayalam on the

significance of Republic day. Volunteers sang patriotic song on the occasion.

Voluteers visited Akashaparavakal, an old age home.

Volunteers of chemistry department distributed food packets to inmates of

AKASHAPARAVAKAL.

On February 4th world cancer day selected members of our NSS unit attended the

class at RCC Trivandrum. The class was about cancer prevention methods. The class

began at 9.00am. Dr.Ramdas, Dr. Thomas Biju Mathew, Dr. Usha S Nair were the

chief guests.

Selected volunteers visited Akashaparavakal and distributed sweets.

Selected members were attended 3 day residential state camp entitled YOUTH

COLLOQUIM from 8th to 10th February on Kanakakunnu Palace

The two selected first years attended leadership training camp which was held from

26th February to 28th February at Govt. College Kariavattom.

As part of the women's day celebration that falls on March 8,a group consisting of

twenty four NSS volunteers attended a seminar organized on Gandhi BhavanThycaud

at 2.30pm by NABARD and Kerala Gandhi SmarakaNidhi on "protection of women"

conducted at the Gandhi Bhavan,Thycaud.A panel of prominent personalities such as

MrsParvathy Devi(youth commission),Adv.SwapnaGeorge,Smt.Mercy Alexander

were the guests.They addressed the topic by sharing their valuable ideas and insight of

the current state of a woman's dilemma.

The Annual camp wasconducted from March 1 to 8 at Karikkam. 150 volunteers

participated. The camp was inaugurated by a panel comprising of Dr S Venumohan

(NSS coordinator, University of Kerala), Rev Mother Mary Elma, DrSheela Mary

Xavier, NSS college coordinators MrsVijayakumari and MsSimna. S Stephen Various

events were held including aids awareness program, oral cancer awareness survey

On 5th June 2016, NSS units in our college organized a plantation programme and a

poster making competition to celebrate World Environmental Day.

On 9th June 2016 NSS units organized a voluntary blood donation camp in

collaboration with Sree Chithra Hospital, TVPM. 41 students donated blood

On July 11th 2016 a poster making competition was held in connection with World

Population Day.

Alumni Initiatives

The alumni of the department of Botany initiated a program ‘Experientia’ where the

retired faculty members and alumni members are invited as resource persons to

augment teaching learning and extension of the department

The alumni of the department of Botany initiated a lending library ‘My Book For

You’ for the students. The members have donated their old books for the library

The alumni of the department of Commerce has initiated the programme “

Vitarana” of donating books for the department library.

VI. Innovations and Best practices

The department of Botany along with NSS unit of our college planted Fruit trees

orchard in the campus in 2015. A total of 27 tree saplings were planted. The orchard

was named ‘Garden of Eden’.

The Department of Environmental Sciences has started ‘Peer Observation and

Evaluation’ in the PG programme where the students observe the presentations of

their classmates and evaluate their presentation along with the faculty.

Members of the environmental club under the agile of the department of Botany set

up a conservatory for ferns in the campus named ‘Fern Dale’ in 2015.

Documentary film “Wonders of Plant Kingdom” was screened by the department of

Botany to create awareness on floral diversity of the world I 2015.

The department of Botany initiated annual ‘Nature Outreach Program’ this year. The

aim of the program is to extend class room teaching to outside campus, taking

students to various ecosystems in Nature.

Haritotsava’ was organized by the department of Botany on July 2016 during which

the students planted tree saplings in Mahatmaji Jaivodhyanam.

The department of Botany documented flora of the campus and released booklets on

‘Campus Flora’, ‘Trees of All Saints’ Campus’ and ‘Medicinal Plants of All Saints’

Campus’ on 1st August 2016.

Green audit was conducted by the department of Botany on 26th July 2016. The

students identified the plants in the campus with the expert advice of Dr. Santhosh

Kumar E.S., Systematic Botanist (Technical Officer), JNTBGRI, Palode.

Campus Flora Photography Competition – An Interdepartmental Campus Flora

photography competition was conducted by the department of Botany on 2nd February

2016.

An Alumni meet was organized by the department of Botany on 23rd July 2016. Forty

eight students participated in the meet. As an alumni initiative a lending library was

inaugurated on the occasion

World Environmental Day was celebrated on 5th June by planting trees in the name of

Hindi Writers.

Best Practices :

The Department of English has embarked on an Oral History and Mythology bank

projector, aimed at collecting narratives from different parts of the nation. Some

projects include Lost stories of the Tribes and narratives of the Yellamma Temple at

Balkampet, Hyderabad. The latter has been shot in the documentary form and

compiled. The students are encouraged to view the same in their leisure.

Thanal: The social initiative undertaken by the students of the Department of

Economics through mobilizing voluntary donations and funds from the students and

faculty helps to address the financial difficulties of poor students to a greater extent by

providing them with adequate provision of study materials, note books, mid day meals

etc .

Outreach Programmes Undertaken in the Institution:

Students of English department independently organised massive aid for the residents

of the tribal colony at Kallaar . Essentials such as medicines, clothes, baby food

etc.were distributed.

A food fest was jointly organized by the students of the Department and SAF from 19-

21, January, 2016. The students donated the money raised from the programme for

charity service. Three ceiling fans are being purchased and are to be donated to the

Karikkakom Government School on 28, March, 2016.

A French Food Festival was conducted on 23rd March 2015 in the college premises

towards helping the Regional cancer centre .

A Hindi Fest- ‘Aao Khao Dhoom Machao’ was organized as a charity event to help

the inmates of the Old Age home - ‘Akashaparavakal’ in the nearby locality.

A ‘Food Fest’ was organized by the department of Botany on 19th February 2016 as a

fund raising program for the department towards helping the needy of the locality.

Select students of the Department. of English have been taking classes at the St.

Mary’s Higher Secondary School, Vettucaud, a school in the locality, as an effort to

give back to the community.

Ms. Sonya J. Nair of the department. of English has conducted a class on English-

Expression and Communication at the Vidyadasan Central School, Puthukurichy.

This was part of an attempt at taking English to students at grassroots level.

for the National Competition on Water Resource Management conducted by the

Energy and Resource Institute and TERI institute, Delhi. They participated in the

‘Edu-excursion Camp’ from October 26-October 31, 2015. They had a good

opportunity to interact with national and international intellectuals.

Seven teams from the college participated in the All Kerala Quiz for college students,

‘Moksha 1.0’ organised by the Kerala State Excise Department, Government of

Kerala in association with Mar Ivanios College, Thiruvananthapuram on July 23,

2015. The quiz was held at Mar Ivanios College as a campaign to raise awareness of

the harmful effects of drugs and alcoholism.
