Christ Moravian Church July 2016 FELLOWSHIP MESSENGER Dave’s Devotional In this world of technological communication, there is something to be said for those “face to face” interactions we still carry on with each other. While people do not always agree with each other on every subject matter, we can in fact follow some great guidelines on how to respond to each other. The list printed below came from a supervising pastor of mine in PA and was included in the monthly newsletter from Edgeboro Moravian Church close to 25 years ago. I think they are still applicable today in our lives. Ten Commandments of Human Relations 1 SPEAK TO PEOPLE - There is nothing so nice as a cheerful word of greeting. 2 SMILE AT PEOPLE - It takes 72 muscles to frown, only 14 to smile. 3 CALL PEOPLE BY NAME - The sweetest music to a person’s ears is the sound of his or her own name. 4 BE FRIENDLY AND HELPFUL – If you want to have friends be a friend. 5 BE CORDIAL - Speak and act as if everything you do is genuine pleasure. 6 BE GENUINELY INTERESTED IN PEOPLE - You can like almost everybody if you try! 7 BE GENEROUS with praise and cautious with criticism. 8 BE CONSIDERATE WITH FEELINGS OF OTHERS - There are usually three sides to a controversy. Yours, the other person and the right side. 9 BE ALERT TO GIVE SERVICE - What counts in life is what we do for others. 10 ADD TO THIS a good sense of humor, a big dose of patience and a dash of humility and you will be rewarded many fold. FELLOWSHIP MESSENGER

Dave’s Devotional In this world of technological communication, there is something to be said for those “face to face” interactions we still carry on with each other.

Ten Commandments of Human Relations 1 SPEAK TO PEOPLE - There is nothing so nice as a cheerful

word of greeting. 2 SMILE AT PEOPLE - It takes 72 muscles to frown, only 14 to

smile. 3 CALL PEOPLE BY NAME - The sweetest music to a person’s

ears is the sound of his or her own name. 4 BE FRIENDLY AND HELPFUL – If you want to have friends be a

friend. 5 BE CORDIAL - Speak and act as if everything you do is genuine

pleasure. 6 BE GENUINELY INTERESTED IN PEOPLE - You can like almost

everybody if you try! 7 BE GENEROUS with praise and cautious with criticism. 8 BE CONSIDERATE WITH FEELINGS OF OTHERS - There are

usually three sides to a controversy. Yours, the other person and the right side.

9 BE ALERT TO GIVE SERVICE - What counts in life is what we do for others.

10 ADD TO THIS a good sense of humor, a big dose of patience and a dash of humility and you will be rewarded many fold.

CE Committee Report: The CE Committee met on Sunday, June 5, following the service in the church office. Discussion topics included a review of Graduate Recognition plans; update on Laurel Ridge Camp Scholarship Fundraisers; special summer version of Children’s Church; Promotion Sunday scheduled for August 28; End of Summer Picnic/Ice Cream Social plans including a Field Day on August 28. We also approved a request from a church member for the purchase of a Christmas tree and donation of handmade Chrismons. The Advent Event this year will include making additional Chrismons for the tree and our Special Friends Christmas Card Box recipients. The next meeting will be on Sunday, August 7, in the church office following the service. Youth Fellowship: Planning for mission work on various Saturday’s during July and August is underway. Please watch the bulletin and weekly newsletter for more information as it becomes available. A Special Dinner: The CE Committee would like to thank everyone who made our first special dinner called, “An Evening Under the Stars” such a success, especially Emma LaBella, who planned and organized the event and Trish Gray, who along with Sabrina Maksi, planned and prepared the meal. We served 42 dinners and raised $650 for the Laurel Ridge Summer Camp Scholarship Fund! If you didn’t make it this year, Emma has already started making plans for next year’s dinner. Thanks again to everyone! MARK YOUR CALENDARS: SUNDAY, AUGUST 28 – Please mark your calendars for Sunday, August 28th. Not only will that be Promotion Sunday during Opening Exercise, but it will also be our Annual Ice Cream Social and End of Summer Picnic. This year the CE Committee will provide the grilled hot dogs and hamburgers and is asking the congregation to bring the side dishes and, of course, dessert including homemade ice cream. As a special treat, a Field Day is being planned for that afternoon prior to the picnic. There will be games and activities for people of ALL ages and skill levels. We hope everyone will make plans to attend this afternoon of great fun, food and fellowship!

MARK YOUR CALENDARS: (Cont.) SATURDAY, OCTOBER 15 – On Saturday, October 15, from 9 AM – 12 PM, the CE Committee will be sponsoring a paper shredding as a fundraiser to raise money for future Christian Education programs and special events. Shamrock Shredding will be on-site to handle the shredding. Volunteers will be on hand to help unload your boxes. The cost will be $5 per box. Help us spread the word by telling your family and friends. =================================================

News from Ray of Hope All is well at Ray of Hope. We are excited about a team coming from Kernersville Moravian Church this week. They are going to be working in the gardens and doing some teacher training workshops. The preschool and primary school are also doing well. Ceci’s leg is doing okay. She will be going back to the doctor in a couple of weeks for them to consider if they need to do surgery. It is hard to believe, but Ceci and I will be celebrating our 10th wedding anniversary on July 1. God continues to bless us, our family and Ray of Hope. Michael, Ceci and Blessing Tesh =================================================
