Invitation cum call for scientific papersThe Kerala Veterinary Science Congress (KVSC) is a prestigious annual scientific meet organized by

Indian Veterinary Association, Kerala, since 2009. The event is organized during the month of Novemberevery year. The objective of this two-day event is to revitalize the R&D sector of Veterinary, Animal and Wildlife sciences and to identify solutions for the emerging challenges in the health care, management, production,welfare and one-health aspects of livestock, wild life and public health. The 8thKerala Veterinary ScienceCongress will be organized by Indian Veterinary Association Kerala in association with Animal HusbandryDepartment, Kerala and Kerala Veterinary & Animal Sciences University. The 2016 episode of Kerala veterinaryScience Congress (KVSC-2016) will be an international edition staging an effective platform for interactionamong academicians, researchers, practicing veterinarians, wild life experts and policy makers from all acrossthe globe.

The 8thKerala Veterinary Science congress will be held at Hotel Dream City, Pattikkad, Thrissur, on12thand 13thof November, 2016.

SCIENTIFIC SESSIONS

The 8th Kerala Veterinary Science Congress is scheduled to have five technical sessions based on relevantthemes of veterinary profession in the current scenario. Each session will be led by thematic presentations byeminent speakers and scholars in the relevant field.

Session I VETERINARY SCIENCE IN PRACTICE

Session will focus on field experiences and technical papers by registered field veterinary practitioners.

Session II BASIC VETERINARY & ALLIED SCIENCES

Session will discuss on Veterinary Anatomy, Physiology, Biochemistry, Pathology, Microbiology,Parasitology, Biotechnology and Pharmacology.

SessionIII ANIMAL HEALTH SCIENCES

Session will deal with disciplines of Clinical Medicine, Surgery, Animal Reproduction, Epidemiology &Preventive Medicine, Public Health and Diagnostics

Session IV ANIMAL PRODUCTION & MANAGEMENT

Session will give emphasis to areas of Animal Breeding & Genetics, Nutrition & Feed Technology, Avian& Livestock Production Management, Livestock Products Technology, Animal Husbandry Extension,Entrepreneurship, Livestock Economics & Marketing, Animal Welfare Animal Welfare and EnvironmentManagement.

Session V WILDLIFE

Session covers areas related to Captive and Exotic Animals & Birds.

Special Session FARMERS SESSION

Session incorporating innovations in Production, Breeding and Conservation in Animal Husbandrysector by progressive farmers and conservationists.

4REGISTRATION AND ABSTRACT SUBMISSION

Scientific/Research/Clinical papers are invited for oral/ poster presentations in each of the fivetechnical sessions of the Congress. The research papers must be based on original work of authors, whichhas not been published/presented in the same form elsewhere in print or electronic media. The abstractsare to be submitted along with registration fees online only in the registration portal available at theCongress website www.ivakvsc.org. Number of papers permitted per person is limited to three. Acceptanceof the abstracts will be intimated through e-mail only. The authors of the abstracts accepted for oral/posterpresentation will have to submit their full papers for including in the Congress Compendium. Guidelinesfor preparation of abstracts and full papers are available at Congress website. The last date for onlineregistration and abstract submission is 20thAugust 2016.

REGISTRATION FEE

Registration fee is to be paid in proportion to the number of submissions per author at the followingrates for the various categories of participants as given below.

Faculty/Scientists/Practitioners participating with paper Rs 2000/-Regular PG/Ph. D students participation with paper Rs 1500/-Faculty/Scientists/Practitioners participating without paper Rs 1500/-Regular PG/Ph. D students participating without paper Rs 1000/-

Postgraduate student delegates shall produce a bonafide student certificate from the Head of theDepartment or Major Advisor in the prescribed format at the venue to avail the discounts. Participants arerequested to visit www.ivakvsc.org for such certificate formats and details of remittance of registration feebefore proceeding with the online registration. After registration, the registrants are requested to emaildetails like name of the delegated category, bank transaction number and date, amount remitted and theregistration number and date, amount remitted and the registration number allotted on completion ofonline registration, along with a scanned copy of the certificate concerned [email protected]. The delegates registering for the Science Congress are entitled to get aconference kit and complimentary food on the conference days.

AWARDS AND HONORS

The first and second best oral and poster presentations in each offive technical sessions of the Congresswill be awarded a citation and a memento as a token of encouragement towards quality research and practicein veterinary field.

DISTRICT NEWS

Indian Veterinary Association Kerala,Pathanamthitta unit in association with IndianMedical Association, Pathanamthitta unit organizeda session on “Basic life support -training withpractical demonstrations on CPR (Cardiopul-monary resuscitation) and other emergencyprocedures during accidents, drowning etc” on02/07/2016, at Hotel Wite Portico, Adoor. The eventwas inaugurated by Dr. Sai Prasad, State GeneralSecretary IVA, Kerala. The function was presided byDr. Sisy Phillip, President IVA, Pathanamthitta.Expert Medical professionals lead the session. Thetraining program was extremely beneficial and itequipped our members to approach emergencysituations where a person’s life is under threat, to keephim alive till he reaches the hospital. The programwas widely appreciated by all members, whichimproved their life saving skills in an emergencyoutside a clinic whether it is a human or animalspecies. Dr. Rajeev. M, Secretary IVA Pathanamthittadelivered vote of thanks.

PATHANAMTHITTA KOTTAYAM

Indian Veterinary Association Kerala,Kottayam unit conducted a CVE on “ Fracturemanagement and anaesthesia protocol in fieldcondition “ on 5th July 2016. The CVE led by DrDeepu Philip Mathew, VS ,VPV, Chengannoor wasreally useful to all field vets . Dr Deepu explained thevarious aspects of immobilising a fractured animalin a better way. The anaesthesia protocol with thelowest risk that can be followed in the field conditionwas discussed in the CVE. Dr Deepu also shared hisexperience of attending odd hour emergency casesat chengannoor along with his fellow vets.

A farewell to Dr V. Gopakumar, formerKottayam DAHO was organized in a combinedgeneral body meeting by IVA, Kerala,Kottayam andKGVOA Kottayam units. The meeting presided byDr Krishna Kishore, President, IVA Kottayam districtunit expressed our thanks to all the support extendedto our associations by Dr Gopakumar. A momentowas presented by Dr Hariharan , Daho Ktm as oursymbol of love . Dr Kurian K Jacob , PresidentKGVOA, Kottayam briefed the discussions of thecombined Executive held at Thiruvananthapuramand Dr Joby George, South Zone Joint SecretaryKGVOA and KSVC member clarified the queriesfrom members regarding KSVC registration. DrSubin, Secretary, IVA Kottayam district unitwelcomed the gathering and Dr Anilkumar B,Treasurer IVA Kottayam proposed vote of thanks.

Indian Vet Association Kerala, Kottayam unitarranged a screening camp for Kottayam Vets on18 July at NSS hall collectorate in association withChief Disease Investigation Office, Palode. Screeningwas conducted to diagnose/sero surveillance ofbrucellosis., leptospirosis and toxoplasmosis amongvets. Dr. Swapna Susan Abraham, DiseaseInvestigation Officer, Chief Disease InvestigationOffice, Palode was present on the occasion with allthe guidance. Above 50 Members were present forthe screening.

Organized State Level World Zoonosis Daycommemoration function of Indian VeterinaryAssociation, Kerala on 6th July 2016 at Thodupuzha.

THRISSUR

A warm welcome to the new Thrissur D.A.H.O.,Dr. K. S. Thilakan and farewell to Dr. U. S.Ramachandran and send-off function for Dr. Ali T.A. was conducted on 4th July at Pearl RegencyThrissur. Dr. Ali retired from service as VeterinarySurgeon while working at S. N. Puram, Kodungallur.Dr. U. S. Ramachandran Deputy Director, Thrissurwas promoted as Joint Director, Kozhikode. ThrissurIVA president, Dr. K. D. Paul presided over thefunction. The KGVOA state president Dr. K. R.Arunkumar was the chief guest. Dr. Beena J. N. gavea brief portrayal about Dr. Ali’s prominent service tothe department. KGVOA Thrissur president, Dr. B.S. Binod, Dr. Joy George and Dr. Anilkumar K. sharedtheir memories and wished them all success in theirfuture endeavors. The function concluded with voteof thanks by IVA secretary Dr. Jyothy Sreedharan.

COVAS, MANNUTHY

Seminar on “Newer approaches in cowcomfort systems for better productivity”

Indian Veterinary Association Kerala,Mannuthy unit organised a National Seminar on“Newer approaches in cow comfort systems forbetter productivity” along with Indian DairyAssociation, Kerala chapter on 25.06.2016 at HotelPearl Regency, Thrissur. Around 160 delegatesincluding veterinarians, dairy professionals, P.G.students, faculties, farmers and industry peopleparticipated in the event. Dr.Velugoti PadmanabhaReddy, Dean, Faculty of Dairy Science, SriVenkateshwara Veterinary University, Tirupathiinaugurated the function. Dr. P.I. Geevarghesepresided over the function. Dr. P.C. Alex, president,IVA, Mannuthy unit, Dr. Sisilamma George, Dean,CoVAS, Mannuthy, Dr.GirishVarma, Dean, Facultyof Dairy Science offered felicitations. There were twoscientific sessions, one by Dr.Veerasamy Sejian, SeniorScientist, NIANP, Bangalore on “Climate change andlivestock production” and another by Dr. A. Prasadon “Thermal indices to quantify heat stress impactand housing management strategies for livestock inhot humid tropics”. The valedictory function waspresided over by Dr. P.C. Alex, President, IVA,Mannuthy unit and vote of thanks was delivered byDr. S. Sankaralingam, Secretary, IVA, Mannuthyunit.

BREED CERTFICATION CAMP FOR DOGS

A breed certification camp was organized under theauspices of Indian Veterinary Association Kerala,Palakkad at Mannur on 9/7/16.Sri O.V SwaminathanMannur Panchayath President inaugurated thecamp. Dr Ravi presided over the function. Dr ShajiPannikkaserry headed the camp. A class on“Effective ownership of dog “ was taken by DrSreehari. Dr Gunateeta was the moderator of theclass. Dr Jayan,Dr Jyotish Shankar, Dr SudhirBabu,Dr Rajesh.P,Dr . Fathima attended the campas resource persons.More than 50 dogs from Mannur,Mankara and lekkidi panchayath were certified.Certificates with breed particulars and dogs photowere distributed to the owners. The programme willbe organized in other Panchayat and municipalitiesshortly

handled the class. The topic was highly beneficial forthose faculty and students who wish to move to anentrepreneurial level.

A combined General Body of IVA andKGVOA was convened on 2nd July 2016 at RoyalOmars, Kannur with the main agenda of conduct ofVeterinarians Convention 2016. IVA District SecretaryDr. S. Pramod welcomed the gathering. IVA DistrictPresident Dr. V. Prasanth Presided over the function.Dr. Beetu Joseph, Dr. K. Sethumadhavan, Dr. T. V.Unnikrishnan, Dr. M. P. Gireesh Babu, Dr. M. P.Sujan and Dr. M. Vinod kumar actively participatedin the discussions. Organizing committee has beenformed with Dr.K.Sethumadhavan (Retd.J.D.) asChairman, Dr.C.K.Khaleel (DD) and Dr.T.V.Unnikrishnan (DD)as Vice chairman, Dr. V. Prasanthas Convener and Dr.Beetu Joseph as Joint convener.Sub committees were formed. The General Bodymeeting ended with the vote of thanks by KGVOADistrict Secretary Dr. P. N. Shibu.

KASARGOD

Indian veterinary Asscociation Kerala, Kannurunit sponsored Kerala Kaumudi daily to MunicipalHigh School, Kannur for the current academic year,as part of “ente Kaumudi” at schools campaign. IVA

A warm reception was arranged to the newDAHO Dr. V Sreenivasan on 08.07.2016 at JKResidency Kasargod after the conference. He is thefirst DAHO Kasargod from Kasargod dist. IVAPresident Dr. Tito Joseph chaired. Senior membersfelicitated him and wished success.

Indian Veterinary Association Kerala,Kasargod unit organized sessions on “LSGD projectformulation” at RAHC, Kanhangad by Dr. G. K.Mahesh and on “Subsidy norms and purchasedrelated LSGD projects” by Dr. G. M. Sunil

District President Dr.V.Prasanth inauguratedby giving paper to the Head Master on 20th July atSchool Auditorium. Keralakaumudi reporterMr.Nikhil, IVA Secretary Dr.S.Pramod and manyteachers spoke on the occasion. IVA Kannur unitassurred support for giving awareness classes to thestudents on opportunities and scope of AnimalHusbandry sector.

OBITUARY

Dr. T. M. S Namboo-thiri (63 batch) 72 years,native of Shorunur andRetired Joint Director(AHD)passed away on 12th July2016.

May his soul rest in peace.
