The creative works of photographers from across the area were on display throughout the month of May as part of the Last Light Photography Show at the Goderich Library. A reception was hosted at the Goderich branch on Saturday, May 6 by CL-CH and the Mann family of Lucknow, to recognize the winners of the competition held in the memory of Sarah Mann, a talented reporter-photographer who died in an accident in 2006. Parents Steve and Lynne Mann, and daughter Jessica, presented awards for photographs submitted in four different categories.

Tracy Meurs topped 47 entries in the Colour Blue category to win top prize for an unprecedented fourth straight year. Barb Storey of Winthrop was also a repeat winner, taking top prize in the Huron County Event category and also winning the Number 10 category with a photo of 10 Easter eggs held by rabbits. Jim Kelly and Dana Laughlin won Honorable Mention in the category. The event, which kicks off Community Living month in May, is sponsored by Lighthouse Money Management and MacEwan and Feagan Insurance Brokers.

The 11th Annual Goderich and District Golf Classic in support of Community Living - Central Huron, was an unqualified success again this year, raising more than $31,000 in support of the agency’s programs and services.

The two-day event, June 15 and 16 at Sunset Golf Club welcomed 80 participants to two days of golf, fellowship and support for developmentally challenged adults in the community.

Thanks to the generosity of the local business, retail and professional community, the golf tournament, major draw, and live and silent auctions raised $31,181. The amount raised this year, boosts the total fund raised over the 11 years of the tournament, to an impressive $243,000.

This year, Board of Directors President, Sharon Creighton, said some of the funds raised would be used to support respite programs across all age groups, to give parents and caregivers much needed breaks. Some of the funds will also be used to enhance Adult Services Programs, training, awareness and individual support.

A large percentage of the tournament’s proceeds was raised through ticket sales for a luxury package at Benmiller Inn and Spa, with the winning ticket being held by Glyn Pinkney. Huron-Bruce MP, Benn Lobb, again conducted a successful live auction after the golf, coaxing over $5,000 in bids on a number of auction items ranging from tickets to Blue Jays and Leafs game complete with accommodation to golf outings, YMCA memberships and a hand-painted water colour print by local artist, Joanne Dundass. The event and some auction items were generously sponsored by John Anderson of Canada Steel. Golf committee members included Anderson, Mary Ann Doyle, Bill Graham, Al Smith, Rick Sowerby, Gary Gravett, Dave Sykes and Chairman, Tom Morris.

The PharmaPlus Trophy (quota points) was won by the team of Art Bourdeau, Stan Connelly, Sandy Wellman and Grant Sowerby while the team of Ryan Shelton and Kirk, Barney, and Ken Stewart won the Sunset Blinds Trophy for the scramble portion of the event.
