Happy 4th of July”
Thank you Bob McClelland for your presentation about springs for
our vehicles, the tricks to a fine ride. Now everyone will know
what to do the next time their car goes down the road with a bounce
that should not be there. Bob’s research did us all a favor, thanks
again.
For this month Bob McClelland has a presentation on the history and
time line of Grapette soda pop, a collection of Grapette antique
bottles and other collectables.
Thank you once again Susan Valentino for your report on our history
of days gone by. As always you are doing a great job, and history
of our club for some of us who weren’t there in that time line gave
us an insight of what was going on in our club.
Thank you, Cliff Gustin for helping Kathy Shedd with the raffle for
the months of July and August. As I close for this month I would
like for the membership to keep in mind that our club needs
volunteers from time to time to keep our club moving forward.
Thank you, Patsy

ALL ABOUT TOURS by
Jay and Janet Harris
ANNOUNCING THE JULY TOUR Plans are being finalized for a fantastic
look into the past as we visit the 109 year old Balboa Park
Carousel. This will be a private tour, including a docent to give
us the fascinating history of this very special machine. It was
built in New York by the Herschell-Spillman Company in 1910 and
spent three years in Los Angeles before being shipped to Coronado's
Tent City, and finally to Balboa Park in 1922. Various owners
operated it in the park, where it was permanently installed at it's
current location in 1968. We will learn all about it's many owners
through the years, and will complete our tour with a five minute
ride on it's historic wooden horses. The Friends of Balboa Park now
operate the carousel and charge a flat $200 for a private visit, no
matter how few or how many people sign up. The likely date of our
tour will be Friday, July 19th, but the final date is not yet
confirmed. There will be a signup sheet at the July meeting, and
the confirmed date will be announced. We are hoping for a strong
turnout, keeping the per-person price low. Lunch at a local
restaurant will follow. Stay tuned!! Jay and Janet
