Hello Everyone,
Thanks to everyone who participated in the Zoom meeting this last week and a special thanks to those who submitted quilt pictures for our show and tell. The feedback was very positive. It was nice to have at least a virtual get-together. We had 49 people sign up and 38 that attended. The technology worked pretty well!
We will hold our July regular meeting via Zoom (July 28th). An email invitation will come out during the week before the meeting. It will require you to register and you will receive an email link to the meeting. You can join the meeting via a smartphone, tablet or laptop/desktop computer. If you want to practice in advance, contact Kathy Beach – she has volunteered to help folks.
The July meeting will include the usual business meeting, which will include the election of officers for the coming year.
The slate of officers includes:
Vice President – Colleen Lane Secretary – Barb Seitz Treasurer Elect – Pam Whitt
The officers continuing for next year are:
President – Kathy Beach Treasurer – Deana Cherry Past President – Barbara Martin
I am also planning another virtual show and tell for the July meeting. Please email me pictures you would like included. As we go through the show and tell, each quilter can talk about their quilt.

There was no June meeting due to COVID-19 restrictions.
We will not hold the small groups or a third Saturday workshop in July. The church is still not available for our use. With Phase 3 of the reopening plan on pause for now, we will have to wait and see when we can get together in person.
We are going to try to put together a virtual sewing get together pretty soon. We will get more infor-mation on that out soon.
We are recruiting for members to volunteer for various guild leadership roles. It has been challenging to seek volunteers without our face to face meetings. Please consider volunteering - some of the guild’s business and activities continue to be ongoing during this shutdown and some will need some-one to step up and be ready once activities resume. The new year for officers begins in September.
Quilt Show: There are still some key positions that need to be filled for the Quilt Show. These are Rib-bons and Silent Auction. We have one volunteer for the Silent Auction and need a couple more volun-teers. Consider doing these jobs as a team. Last year we had a team of three that put together a fun and fabulous Silent Auction. Contact Mary Jo Brisbon to volunteer!
Committee Chairs: There are a few committee chair openings for the coming year. These include Membership, Snuggles, and Raffle Quilt Ticket Sales. Please contact Barbara Martin or Kathy Beach to volunteer for these important positions.
Also, there is an update to the Challenge Quilt. The guidelines originally put out stated a completed minimum length of 70”. That has been revised to a range of 36” - 70” for the length. The original width of 12” to 40” remains unchanged. Thanks to Lillian Asher for doing the 2021 Quilt Challenge.
Happy Quilting - please stay healthy and safe!

Stitches In Time—Nancy Parrott (Historian)
I’ve hit a dry spell. Or just maybe I’ve been spending so much creative juice sewing, that I don’t
seem to have any left over to write a newsletter article. It is kind of scary. Here it is
summertime and instead of awaking on these beautiful summer mornings to visions of biking or
golfing or kayaking, I bound out of bed, grab a day-old cup of coffee and immediately call up
Kathryn Kerr’s website to print the new block for the day. I have been doing this since January
1, so I can’t blame it on Covid. Now that I think about it, it is really all Ann Trujillo’s fault. She so
sweetly asked back in December if anyone was considering doing Kathryn Kerr’s 365 Day
Challenge. She was met with mostly questioning stares. After producing the picture of the quilt,
the more experienced of the group politely nodded and then declined, citing a number of
excuses disguised as reasons. I could have sought safety within the collective, but instead, over
-thought the ‘challenge’. Maybe I could just do the center medallion and one border? And when
I got tired of it, I could just print all the patterns for free and have them for future projects. After
all, Dixie Parizek did seem interested. And Linda Scibilia. They are both nice, sane, normal
people. So here I am, 6 months, 5 days and over 5000 block pieces later, addicted to one block
a day. Just in case you care, today’s block is Star and Pinwheel in a 6” light value.
But as fixated as I am on the 365 Day Challenge, according to my husband it does not hold a
candle to my dedication to the Quilted Strait Mystery Quilt. This project is all CarolAnn
Jackson’s fault. Back in March I get an email from CarolAnn. “Did you see the announcement
from Quilted Strait? Kris is doing a mystery and donating the proceeds to Northwest Harvest. I
think we should seriously consider this. And it has a gardening theme.”
So here I am, looking forward to Clue 11 of the mystery quilt next Friday. My husband now
knows not to plan any activities for Friday as this is the day Kris’s email arrives. I don’t even
bother to grab a cup of coffee on Friday before I fire up the computer. For some reason, the
email will not print from my IPad, so I have to log on to my lesser-used computer. That slows
me down a bit, but I have put a positive spin on it, as it helps me to practice delayed
gratification. It is getting harder to control my curiosity. I have arranged and rearranged the
emerging blocks in a dozen ways, hoping to discover the pattern. I was probably spending a bit
too much time on this activity when Quilter’s Trek came to my rescue.
Quilter’s Trek is the new name for Row by Row. It starts every year in mid-June. Over the years
I have become a disciple of Row by Row. The themed patterns created by different quilt shops
across the state have provided the ‘bones’ and allowed me to work outside the box to create
four unique quilts of my own design. This year because of Covid, the row patterns can be
purchased online and mailed straight to your house where in the past you had to visit the store
to get the pattern. So, I shifted from putting those Mystery Blocks into different configurations to
visiting the websites of quilt stores ACROSS THE ENTIRE COUNTRY- AND CANADA! to find
the perfect combination of 8 rows that will make the quilt of my imagination. I have spent many
a day out on the bench in my front yard, under the guise of getting my daily dose of Vitamin D,
to await the mail lady and the possibility of receiving the house kit from VA, or the basket kit
from PA, or the bird kit from MI, or the laser cuts from UT……
So, after writing this, I have to admit the truth. I wasn’t in a dry spell. I just didn’t want to stop sewing long enough to pen out this article.

Pizza Box Exchange—Jeanette Schanbeck
Thank you ladies for making the Pizza Box Swap so much fun. We are coming to the end. This would have never happened if it wasn't for everyone of you! All of your positive commits, kindness, taking the time to be creative and thinking outside of the Pizza Box at times. I have personally taken peeks into the boxes, and I would have to say "wow, ladies you do amazing work!".
We are only few months away from our last swap so now we have less fabric and more finished blocks in the boxes. We've done all this during this really strange year; virus, bumps in the road, sewing machines breaking down and imperfect moments . Soon.....Everyone will be able to view their original Pizza Box.
I'm starting to think about the final swap. Luckily, we are small group of only 48, so here's hoping that phase #3 gets passed, and Northpoint church gets opened up again. Take the time to be creative again, and let me know your feelings on doing last box swap get together.

Virtual Sew-ins—Amy Steed
Library—Cheryl McCurdy & Leanne Brooling
How can we hold a sew-in during a pandemic? Easy, we'll do it as a Virtual Sew In! I've had the chance to do this
with another guild and found it to be a really fun way to visit with others while working on my projects. Plus, I didn't
have to pack up or haul my sewing machine!
Here's the plan:
We'll have 3 different small Zoom sew-in sessions before our next guild meeting on July 28th, just to see if there is
interest in this. I'll volunteer to lead these three sessions to get us going. If this is something we'd like to continue,
we'll recruit additional leaders for our further virtual sew-ins.
How do we sew during a virtual sew-in? Quiet activities are nice (think hand sewing, pressing, cutting, block
trimming, etc.) but you can use your machine, too, as long as you remember to mute your audio.
You'll need a desktop or laptop computer with a camera, and a reliable wifi connection. It's possible to use a smart
phone or tablet device as well, but the controls may be harder to see and use.
Here are the dates and times for our trial virtual sew-ins:
Friday July 17 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Tuesday July 21 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Sunday July 26 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.
If you're interested, please email me at: [email protected]
Let me know your 1st and 2nd preference for session. We'll keep these small, no more than 8 participants during
each session, to make it easier to chat and so that there are larger, more visible windows on the Zoom screen.
Please respond by 6 pm on July 15th, so there's time to send the Zoom invites for each sew-in.
I look forward to "seeing" you at a virtual sew-in!
IF, we were able to have a Guild meeting this month, here is what we would offer for checkout. The first three books
function as a reminder that holidays are coming in the second half of this very strange year.
First ever Halloween book for the Library is Witch's Night Out, by It's Sew Emma. There are several new Halloween
fabric collections available right now that would be perfect for this quilt. There is a bonus table runner included. See all
the hallmarks of Halloween: black cats on broomsticks, flying bats, a witchy hat, and pumpkins galore.
We always remind members that Christmas is less than six months away. We found two cute books that can be used
for all sorts of decorations, including the 6" Christmas Block Exchange. Cheryl Almgren Taylor has applique quilt
patterns to celebrate the season. There are 13 cheery pieced and fusible applique projects for table runners, wall
hangings, a bed runner, pillow, and a Christmas card holder in Christmas is Coming.
Another book by It's Sew Emma is Peppermint Lane. It's featured as a block of the month, but, of course, you can
adapt the patterns any way you choose. This really is a cheery Christmas quilt, with hanging stockings, stringing lights,
baking cookies, tree trimmings, and more.
At our 2020 Quilt Show, there were wonderful miniature quilts! Japanese designer Kumiko Frydl has created 15
exquisite designs. Each design has a different theme, from Tudor roses and whimsical pineapples to a Wedgwood
chinaware pattern. The explanations are very clear in this book, and there are full-size templates provided on a fold-out
sheet. We ask that you NOT remove the fold-out sheet, but you can certainly copy the patterns.
We are anxious to get into the Library cabinet to review, recycle, and renew the collection. Stay tuned, and please stay
healthy and wear a mask!
