TIDEWATER PLANTATION COMMUNITY ASSOCIATION 1 TIDEWATER PLANTATION Community Association July 2020 For an emergency call 911, not the Tidewater Gatehouse President’s Message Cathy Weis, BOD President While businesses are opening up and we all try to move to the “new normal,” COVID-19 continues to spread in South Carolina and Horry County. Throughout June, we have experienced several days with the largest surge in positive cases in SC. Of course, some of the surge is due to increased testing, but undoubtedly much of it is due to everyone relaxing too much including our many visitors to the Grand Strand. I urge you to continue to be cautious about your activities, always practice social distancing, and wash your hands often. Of course, if your immune system is compromised in any way (diabetes, COPD, heart disease, etc.), please stay home. As many businesses and activities all around us in Myrtle Beach and North Myrtle Beach are opening, often under strict guidelines, we have decided to open our pools in Tidewater. This also is under the guidelines from SCDHEC (South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control); therefore, we are sanitizing the area including the rest rooms daily and ask everyone to bring their own chairs and to sit at least six feet from other groups. Be aware that you are using the facilities at your own risk, and if you are concerned, or if you are sick, or your immune system is compromised in any way, please do not use the facilities. We have decided not to open the Fitness Center due to the onerous requirement to clean the equipment after each use and to limit the occupancy. We simply do not have the staff like the public gyms do to handle this requirement. We ask for your patience and understanding. Also, the Cassels Building (HOA) will remain closed except for access to the library and the shredding bins. The Amenity Center, too, remains closed; however, if groups need to meet for Tidewater business only, the building can be opened for you to use the room while practicing social distancing. Your Board meets often (virtually) to discuss reopenings and we will continue to keep you advised of any changes. We are working on obtaining all the necessary permits to install an access gate at the auxiliary lot at the Beach Cabana, and then work can begin on the installation. However, activation will be dependent on our new access control system being turned on which may not happen until the fall. In the meantime, we have employed a temporary guard to monitor usage. We also have signed the contract for the installation of the new elevator lift at the Beach Cabana; however, that too, will be completed in the fall when it is not as disruptive to shut down the Cabana for the construction. From time to time some of you have questioned the presence of our drainpipe cleaning company. We have spent considerable expense over the last five years examining these pipes and repairing them as needed which is a vital task in a 30 year old community that is bordered on both sides by water. Thankfully, this effort has helped to uncover a couple of very serious issues requiring complete replacement of some of the pipes. This is the case for one found recently on Staysail Lane which carries the water along the 17th hole to the marsh. We ask for your patience if, from time to time, the work is being done close to your home. Usually, the inconvenience is for a very short period of time. You may have noticed the American flags at our entrance ways. Thanks to Frank Pombo these were placed there in honor of Memorial Day. We decided to leave them for the time being since they would have been restored for Flag Day in June and again for the 4th of July. So we get to enjoy our patriotically adorned entrance for a bit longer. I wish you a safe and healthy summer and enjoy the Independence holiday! Property Management MessageChelsa Fenner, CMCA, AMS, Community ManagerTricia Wolak, Assistant Community Manager

Summertime is in full swing, and so is hurricane season. Please start making preparations now rather than waiting. Please take a look at the TPCA Emergency Plan, which is on the website. There is an abundance of relevant information for hurricane preparation. It can be found at: https://www.tidewaterplantation.org/index.php/latest-news/387-tpca-emergency-plan. You may also visit https://www.ready.gov/hurricanes for relevant information. Let’s all be hopeful that we have a very mild hurricane season.

Below are some general reminders:

• Vacant lot inspections are ongoing. Most vacant lot owners will need to have their lot cleaned 2-3 times per year, depending on the vegetation on the lot. The vegetation height should not exceed 24”.

• Please be vigilant of bike riders through the community. I have seen so many people riding their bikes and enjoying the weather, some of which are very fast riders! Please make sure you are paying attention to your surroundings.

• Dogs are not permitted on the beaches in NMB May 15-September 15 from 9-5 PM. When permitted, leashes are required and can be no longer than 7 feet. For other important City Ordinances, please visit www.nmb.us.

• Both parking lots at the Beach Cabana are open to all Property Owners. The auxiliary parking lot at the Beach Cabana is open to the immediate family members of Property Owners (parents, children and grandchildren) and their vehicles must have a special pass on the dashboard of the vehicle. This pass can be obtained from Security at the front gate. In order to obtain this pass, these immediate family guests must be registered in our system. For more information on registering your immediate family guests, please contact the onsite management office at 843-663-3500. Also, please remember that there should only be one car parked per unit/lot.

• The speed limit is 20 MPH throughout the community.

• There should be no glass on or near any of the pool decks within Tidewater.

• If you are not getting our email blasts and would like to receive them, please reach out to me at [email protected].

Lastly, I just want to acknowledge how proud I am to be an American. Each and every one of us is so blessed to live in this country. God Bless America, land that I love!

“You can’t go back and make a new start, but you can start right now and make a brand new ending.”

July is here, along with sunshine and warmer weather. This is the season for HVAC units and would be the perfect time to ensure that basic maintenance is looked over and taken care of. A good tip to keep in mind is that changing your filters prevents the units from running harder or shutting down, so although a small step, it is extremely efficient in its’ resolve. We have a ton of great HVAC contractors in the area and we would be more than happy to provide recommendations for maintenance or inspections if needed, so please feel free to contact [email protected] or call the office at (843) 663-3500.

Although we are moving further into reopenings, keep in mind that social distancing is still important, so make sure that we are all still taking safe precautions regarding the virus and our surroundings. Information and updates are continually changing and coming in so be sure that you are checking your email and following all of the local executive orders from the Governor at https://governor.sc.gov/executive-branch/executive-orders. The CDC has also created educational posters, videos, factsheets, and intervention trainings to help you contribute to prevention efforts. Good Luck DonnaColleen Mann

The Recreation Committee would like to thank Donna Hand for all her work on the Committee. Donna has been an important member as Secretary, Chairperson of the St. Patrick’s Day Party and on the Happy Hour Committee. Donna & her husband Dan will be moving to Murrells Inlet and will be missed by all.

Artisans of Tidewater Marilyn Drange

Hopefully, everyday life will return to normalcy this summer. We will continue to cancel all programs and workshops until we find out when it is safe to resume. Let’s stay connected and crafty, and try your skills using the craft of decoupage.

Decoupage is a traditional paper craft of decorating an object by gluing colored paper cutouts. The word decoupage comes from the French verb decouper, ‘to cut out.’ It was in the 17th century that the craft reached its height of popularity with aristocrats, noble ladies as well as the more humble practitioners trying out the art of decoupage. Today, Mod Podging with napkins has become really popular! Get 10 decoupage ideas using napkins – you’ll love this collection of great ideas, https://modpodgerocksblog.com/10-decoupage-ideas-with-napkins.

Have fun and enjoy your creative time. Looking forward to getting together and sharing our talents.

2020 Census – Horry County Needs Your Response!Jim Offutt

It is not too late to respond to the 2020 Census and fill out the survey. Horry County had a reported 43.9% response rate as of May 16. The decennial census is the once-a-decade population and housing count of all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and the Island Areas. The results of the census determine the number of seats for each state in the U.S. House of Representatives and are used to draw congressional and state legislative districts. Federal agencies use the results to distribute more than $675 billion in federal funds each year. Use this link to complete the survey yourself and share it. Help North Myrtle Beach and Horry County be fully represented through an accurate census tally. www.My2020census.gov

What We Are ReadingRidge Crouch

It’s not unusual for me to ask fellow readers “So, what are you reading that’s good?” Another reliable source has always been what the several Tidewater Book Clubs are reading. The month of July lineup looks like this:

The Page Turners- “When We Believed in Mermaids”, by Barbara O’Neal

The Bookies- “Of Mice and Men”, by John Steinbeck and “Queen Bee”, by Dorothea Benton Frank

All About The Book- No summer meeting, but “Just Mercy”, by Bryan Stevenson in September

The Studs Book Club- “Travels With Charley”, by John Steinbeck

Not So Serious Bookies- “The Lost Girls of Paris” by Pam Jenoff

The Original Tidewater Mens Book Club- “The Splendid and The Vile”, by Erik Larson

If your Book Club would like to share your chosen book of the month with other Tidewater readers, please send it to me ([email protected]) by July 30.

Tidewater Needs You!Roger Quinn, BOD Vice President and Nomination Committee Chairperson

There is still time to file a Board Nominee Application to run for one of the two positions on the Board of Directors. Board members serve a three-year term and are eligible to run again. You must be a homeowner or the designated representative of an owner that is a corporation or partnership or other entity of multiple owners, all in good standing.

1. Any member may nominate herself/himself.

2. Applications are available at the TPCA Management Office, online or from a member of the Nomination Committee.

Back to DutyMarlin Dawdy

The prestigious RED CUP LITTER PATROL returned to active duty on June 13 for its’ first roadside pick-up since before the invasion of COVID 19. This grossly enthusiastic group of “TRASH COLLECTORS” filled nineteen (19) fully loaded bags of litter from alongside that lovely little road leading to the community.

Seventeen (17) “socially distanced” and partially masked volunteers showed up to participate in this 11th Anniversary Event. Fourteen of them are pictured below. Absent from the picture was “picture taker” and Coordinator, FISH Dawdy, and late arrivals, DOC Moss and Hawk Turnauer.

Joining the FISH, DOC and the HAWK, and pictured above, was the BUZZ Etris, BLADE Carver, PUMBA Pombo, LOUIE Cioffi, BIG BOY Saccal, CARLOS Seils, ALFREDO Stahl, THOR Anvik, DOG Hicks, DIABLO Felker, HARV Harvey, CHEWY Dempsey, DUKE Wrobel, and the DU Dumas.

A special thanks to all for coming out to participate in this extraordinary ELEVENTH ANNIVERSARY EVENT of the RED CUP LITTER PATROL.

Thanks, gang. Until next time, stay safe and stay well.
