St. Frances Cabrini Rosary Makers We will not have any meetings for the remaining of the summer. Our next meeting will be on Thursday August 16th. In June, 2018 Our Lady’s Rosary Makers of St. Frances Cabrini sent 200 Rosaries to Our Lady’s Rosary Makers Mission De-partment which forwarded these to Fr. Anguyo Buni Lino, Acting Rector of St. Peter and Paul Seminary of Arua Diocese in Uganda, Africa. Fr. Lino expressed his deep appreciation for the Rosaries which were distributed among the 200 semi-narians who began their Religious training in January 2018. Fr. Lino advised that praying the Rosary daily as a community is an essential part of their Seminary training and all Semina-rians wear the Rosary around the neck as a symbol of their

ni que hacen los rosarios enviaron 200 rosarios al Departa-mento de Misiones, quienes los enviaron al Padre Anguyo Buni Lino, Rector en funciones del Seminario de San Pedro y San Pablo de la Diócesis de Arua en Uganda, África. El Padre Lino expresó su profundo aprecio por los Rosarios, que se distribuyeron entre los 200 seminaristas que comenzaron su formación religiosa en enero del 2018. El padre Lino advirtió que rezar el Rosario todos los días como comunidad es una parte esencial de su entrenamiento en el Seminario y que todos los seminaristas usan el Rosario alrededor del cuello como símbolo de su devoción a nuestra Santísima Madre. - Barbara

Safe Environment Sessions We will have two safe environment sessions for our Parish during the 2018 -2019 School year. September 23rd at 10:30am in English and 2:00pm in Spanish. February 24th at 10:30am in English and 2:00pm in Spanish. These clas-ses will take place in the Old Parish Hall. You will need to sign up for this class and there will be a limit of 30 people. If you cannot take this class at these times, you have the option to find a church near us that is having a session or go to the Diocese to receive the class. If you have any questions or if you are not sure if you need this class,

Votive Prayer Candles In the coming weeks the Women of St. Frances Cabrini will be unveiling the Votive Candle stand that will sit at the base of Our Lady of Guadalupe statue. The statue is located inside the church on the north wall. Parishioners and guests are invited to use the votive prayer candles. The candle stand is an electronic device so matches are not required. It is operated by making a donation and then (with one finger) lightly pushing down on the top of the candle. Once the top of the candle is released, it will light up and stay lit for hours. "We light a candle(s) before a statue or sacred image of our Lord or of a saint...we do not honor the statue or the image itself, but the one whom that statue or image represents. The light signifies our prayer offered in faith coming into the light of God. With the light of faith, we petition our Lord in prayer, or petition the saint to pray with us and for us to the Lord. The light also shows a special reverence and our desire to remain present to the Lord in prayer even though we may depart and go about our daily business...the usage of votive candles is a pious practice which continues today in many church-es. The symbolism does remind us that prayer is a "coming into" the light of Christ, allowing our souls to be filled with His light, and letting that light burn on in our souls even though we may return to our other activ-ities." Velas de Oración Votivas En las semanas que vienen las Women de St. Frances Cabrini desvelarán las Velas Votivas que se encontra-ran en la base de la estatua de Nuestra Señora de Gua-dalupe. La estatua se encuentra dentro de la iglesia en la pared norte. Todos los miembros de la parroquia y
visitantes están invitados a usar las velas votivas de ora-ción. El candelabro es un dispositivo electrónico, por lo que no es necesario cerillos. Se opera haciendo una dona-ción y luego (con un dedo) empujando suavemente la par-te superior de la vela. Una vez que se libera la parte supe-rior de la vela, se encenderá y permanecerá encendida durante horas. "Encendemos una (s) vela (s) ante una estatua o imagen sagrada de nuestro Señor o de un santo... no honramos la estatua o la imagen en sí, sino a aquella a quien represen-ta esa estatua o imagen. La luz representa nuestra oración ofrecida en la fe que viene a la luz de Dios. Con la luz de la fe, le pedimos al Señor en oración, o le pedimos al santo que ore con nosotros y por nosotros al Señor. La luz tam-bién muestra una reverencia especial y nuestro deseo de permanecer Presente al Señor en oración a pesar de que podemos partir y hacer nuestro trabajo diario... el uso de velas votivas es una práctica piadosa que continúa hoy en muchas iglesias. El simbolismo nos recuerda que la oración es "entrar en" la luz de Cristo, permitiendo que nuestras almas se llenen con Su luz, y dejando que esa luz se en-cienda en nuestras almas aunque podamos regresar a nuestras otras actividades”.
