We don’t have ONE of a certain item, but multiple. We are often tempted to buy the ‘latest and greatest” of what our consumer society lures us into believing we ‘need’ to make us happy. Accumulating more and more is not the answer to happiness. We can choose to live a simpler lifestyle and keep only what we actually use and need. As followers of Christ, we are called to share with our brothers and sisters. Involve your children in donating their unused clothes, games, toys and school supplies. Consider bringing these items to Sacred Heart Community Services or the adult clothes and shoes to our own Ascent Program. Perhaps you can have a garage sale and give the proceeds to a worthy cause. Clearing out our excess re- minds us to ‘Seek first the Kingdom of God” trusting that God will provide for all that we need. What matters to God is for us to find our treasure in His Son, Jesus. Why not set aside time this week for you and your children to go through your possessions and pass them on? And before you do, stop and offer a prayer: “Lord, thank you for all you have given us. Where does your true treasure lie?

In today’s gospel, Jesus reminds us: “Take care to guard against all greed, for though one may be rich, one’s life does not consist of pos-sessions.” Many of us can admit to having an over-abundance of pos-sessions. PEACEMAKERS Sylvia Crawley

There are angels in our midst – sometimes in disguise. We may not see them but they are there. Sylvia Crawley was a vital part of our Social Justice group. Whenever we needed a volunteer she was there. She accompanied a child on Get on the Bus Mother’s Day and Father’s Day visit to Soledad, Chowchilla and Folsom prisons to visit. She brought food and clothes to the farm workers who live in Pescadero. That was what she was doing when she was driving home and was killed on Hwy. 280 this past week. Sylvia and her late husband have been in this parish since it was started and they raised 8 children here. She also worshipped at the Carmelite Monastery in Santa Clara and volunteered there once a week. She was a regular at Adoration here on Thursday and loved to hear the Vietnamese women in their prayers/chanting. We all mourn Sylvia’s passing. She was truly a saint and a peacemaker. She was a living reminder that there are good people in this world. People who live out the Pope’s mes-sage of mercy and compassion. People who are Christian in the deepest sense of the word. Jesus says repeatedly “feed the hun-gry” “give drink to the thirsty” “clothe the naked” “visit the imprisoned” - do we hear him? Do we treat our neighbor as ourselves? Can we learn from Sylvia’s lived experience of fol-lowing Jesus? Social Justice Committee
