Apri l the club has recorded a$24,000 operating loss versus abudgeted $356,000 loss. The clubhas done better than budgetby $332,000. Over the next fivemonths the budget reverts back tobreak even.

The club’s reserves not earmarkedfor capital replacement or loanrepayment total $3.5 million at April30 and are segregated in bankaccounts and need Board approvalbefore they are utilized. As you knowthe club has been forced by the tightinsurance market in Florida to selfinsure a signif icant amount ofpotential storm damage. It is nice to see the green color return with the rains from June.Unfortunately, unless we get a tremendous amount of rainfall north of LakeOkeechobee the water restrictions from SFWDD will still be in place uponSouth Florida and the Broken Sound Club. The good news is that we willhave a little larger water allocation from the district for the months of Julyand August. Every little bit helps right now as we adjust our program to fitaccordingly.

Projects:

Rear Driving Range Redesign:We have completed the redesignand grassing with seashorepaspalum. This area, coupled withthe reconstruction of the practicechipping green, will be ready toopen in time for the new winterseason. Also we took out theartificial turf at the back of themain driving range tee and havesince replaced it with seashorepaspalum. By the time the rotationon the tee makes its way to thenew sod we are in hopes it will bewell rooted by then and you will beable to utilize it

Buzz Jazkela’s Phase II Golf CourseLandscaping Plan:We are taking everything intoconsideration on when and whatpart of the design we wish to install

with a Phase III restriction in place. Our choices could be for morebeds or for key trees behind somegreens for depth perception andaesthetics based on Buzz’s plan.

Seashore Paspalum TeeConversion:This will entail us converting all thetees on several holes with theexception of a small area on aselected tee. This will allow thenew seashore sod to mendtogether while we still have play. Some holes wi l l also havetemporary tees if we have any flatareas available. This is a slowerprocess than we would like but itallows us to operate the best wecan without shutting anythingdown.

The new fairway lines have been painted andare growing in nicely. This gives the coursetime to be defined for the winter season andChampions Tour event. In August the step cutwill be added for a quality professional look aslast summer. Of course, this all depends on wherewe are with the water restrictions and MotherNature bringing rain to the course.

We are continuing to add to the cleared areas onthe left side of #2. As the trees and beds mature, the construction on the other side of ourscreening and trees will be less visual. The newseashore paspalum tee will be put into operationin August as we tie in the area around it for amore pleasing look and completion.

#2 and #3 Property Line Landscaping:The areca palms are soon to be in place along the property line for anatural walled screening. With that, we will be planting trees andselective vegetation from the Buzz Jazkela plan and as money dictates. We will put in some beds that will mirror the ones we created on therightside of #2 and leftside of #5.

New putting green and expansion of existing green:The new 6,000 sq. ft. practice green, to be situated by the chippinggreen, will be underway and ready for a seasonal opening. We also willbe expanding the existing practice green behind #18 green another1500 sq. ft. to handle the increased play the Old Course has experienced. The existing practice bunker will be renovated to remove the rockcontaminations and reduce wear on the chipping green and liability ofmissed hit shots.

Additional Tree Plantings:We are looking at adding to the plantings beside the tees on #9 andhave applied permits to fill in a few gaps there for aesthetics.

We are also making plans to do whatever we can to put in limitedscreening around the 8th tee box area exposed from the exotic treeremovals. We are working very closely with the Flagler Developer onfuture help to keep the Old Courseenclosed. Everyone will need tobe patient until we see exactly whatwe are dealing with once all theexotics are removed and the pointof their development back is on theother side of the preserved bufferzones.

Five years ago Mrs.Kane suffered a broken hip andwas able to promptly recover fromher injury due to the personalized weight training program that our personaltrainers were able to create for each training session.

Exercising regularly with Lora has resulted in increased bone density, reducing her Osteoporosis as well as correcting her imbalance and spinalalignment.

“Lora has shown a wonderful dedication to my overall health and fitness bygoing above and beyond what I ever expected”.

A little interesting history aboutBilly McCumber who plays atmany of our Happy Hours and inthe Dining Room fordinner…………Starting out as ajazz player, he became LouisPrima’s piano player from 1956to 1958 on stage, in the studioand even on the movie screen. The band became a sensation in Las Vegas at a time when most loungeacts were playing quiet music so as not to distract gamblers. Louis Primaand his band set a new trend and led to numerous Capitol recordings forwhich Mr. McCumber still receives royalties. His career led him toaccompanying various other artists as well including Latin acts such asTito Puente and Machito. We are fortunate to have him still playing sobeautifully for the members of Broken Sound Club.
