2Christian Education Wow, another Sunday school year has already come to an end! We’dlike to say a big “THANK YOU!” tothe many ChristianEducation volunteers

who served this year asSunday school teachers, class participants, Children’sMoment and Children’s Worship leaders, nursery

volunteers, youth meal providers, and the many, many other volunteers we had throughout our year. TheChristian Education Committee couldn’t continue this

work without your support!

Summer Bible Study Join us for a Wednesday Night Bible Study

beginning June 23 and going through July 28. Our topic will be “A Romp Through the Bible; Rediscovering theUnity of the Bible, Genesis through Revelation” and willbe led by Vic Priebe. We will begin the study at6:30p.m. each night and it will last for six weeks.

This will be a great opportunity to see God’s work through His written Word. Also, it would be a greattime to invite a friend to join us for these specialsessions.

Your Worship Committee at WorkHave you ever thought about what happens on a

Sunday morning to make worship a familiar and smoothexperience? Your worship committee works hard tohave this happen. We have several members on thecommittee who oversee specific aspects of the service.Rhonda Fister makes sure we have ushers and greetersevery week. Jane Pryor contacts lay readers. Missie

Wood helps get supply speakers when the minister is outof town. A flower committee prepares the beautifulflowers in the narthex and on the communion table.

John Baston records the services and sees they are sentto those who request them.

Each month, Anne Davis makes sure we havecommunion supplies. Abe Fosson and Lesley Kindredbake communion bread. Elders prepare, serve and cleanup after communion. Members of the committeestraighten the church and iron and set up thecommunion cloth.

In addition the committee suggests any changes in worship and oversees special services such as the 225th Celebration, World Wide Communion, Thanksgiving, aFamily Christmas program, Christmas Eve, Palm

Sunday, Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, Easter Sunriseand any summer outdoor worship. They assist the fifthSunday services at Taylor Manor. They also suggestpolicy for weddings, funerals, baptisms, special musicand children’s worship. They compile and publish the

Advent Book for home worship. As you can see, we are a busy committee. Please

contact one of us if you would like to participate as anusher, lay reader, or on one of the subcommittees. And,if you would like to join us--Anne Davis, Rhonda Fister,Linda Jones, Jane Pryor, Mary Dan Raider, WandaRodgers, Dottie Schmidt, and Missie Wood—please seeanyone on the committee. We’d love to have your help.

A Smoke Free PisgahPisgah, its buildings and grounds are described by

many as a beautiful place full of tranquility. A variety of groups from our community and abroad ask to use ourgrounds and buildings on a regular basis. Great care istaken to preserve and maintain our treasured Church andland. In order for us to protect this environment anddue to safety concerns, Session approved the buildingsof Pisgah become a smoke free environment earlier thisyear. This action has proved to be a positive step inproviding a safe and inviting atmosphere in ourbuildings.

A proposal to include the grounds of Pisgah in thesmoke free area is before Session. All grounds of Pisgah(excluding the cemetery) would fall under this policy.

Voting on this proposal will be held at the June 22 nd

Session meeting. Please direct any questions orcomments regarding this to a Session member before the June meeting.

A Note from the AdministrationCommittee

How did it get to be June already? This year seemsto be flying by quickly! I hope all of you are enjoying thebeginning of summer, it won’t be long before we all startheading out on well earned vacations.

The May 15th

Treasurers Report is out and ourfinances are still looking good. We are 38% of the way through the year and our income is still keeping pace

with our budget. Our pledged income is at 40% of budget while our unpledged income is 29% of budget

which places our total income at 39% of budget. Ourunpledged income has been below budget for severalmonths now but is not a problem at this time as our totalincome is 2% above the budgeted amount. We willcontinue to monitor the situation to make sure it doesnot become a problem as we get further into the year.

The expense side of our ledger looks good as well. We are 38% of the way through the year and our total

3expenses are 31% of our budgeted amount. We couldsee a slight spike in our expenses as we get into oursummer activities, but I don’t think it will be anything wehave not planed for. Our Elders, Deacons, committeesand church staff are still doing a great job holding downour expenses and are to be congratulated.

Our financial picture looks solid at this time; we willneed to be careful not to fall into the summer doldrums

with our giving as has happened in years past. Weshould have a good year at Pisgah provided we remaindiligent in our giving and continue to watch ourexpenses. Keep up the good work everybody! Now letthe summer fun begin!

The Importance of Pisgah Troop 1784 Scout Program

The Scout program at Pisgah is a wonderful thing. It gives youth of the community an opportunity to learn, grow, and mature into young adult leaders who canutilize their skills and leadership to give back to thecommunity. Scouts join the troop with great interest incamping and activities in the outdoors. Along the way they learn skills they need in order to advance in rank and become more experienced. As their experienceincreases, so do their leadership responsibilities. So astheir leadership responsibilities increase, they learn moreabout the importance of supporting the community through volunteering service. The last step of thejourney is the Eagle Scout rank. This is the greatest actof leadership and service. It gives scouts like me theopportunity to understand the big picture. Leadershipand service in the Boy Scouts prepare you for challengesin life. I always take the scouting approach; be prepared.Earning the Eagle Scout rank and being a member of

Troop 1784 will allow me to be successful in life. Thanks to the Pisgah church community, all young

scouts have the opportunity to be successful in life.

Sincerely,Frank Lake, Eagle Scout

Frank Lake with proud parents, Rob and Janet Lake

The groups will stay on site at Burnamwood. But,more importantly, these groups will venture out each day into Appalachia to take the love of Burnamwood beyondthe boundaries of the camp for the first time. The full-time Summer Mission Coordinator will arrange all work sites and even provide all of the meals. This is a hassle-free mission trip for adults and youth and a chance foreveryone to open their eyes to extreme poverty in

America and in Kentucky. But more importantly, helpmake a difference.
