2011 NHS BULLETIN Labour, Education & Mobility This bulletin summarizes the Labour, Education and Mobility portion of the 2011 data release from the National Household Survey (NHS) for Peel Region and the Greater Toronto Area (GTA). In 2011, 68.8 % of Peel’s residents over the age of 15 were in the labour force, with an overall employment rate of 62.6%. In 2011, Caledon’s employment rate (67.6%) was the highest in the Region, followed by Brampton (62.6%) and Mississauga (62.3%). All three were above the employment rate for the GTA (61.5%). The top occupation categories in Peel were Sales and Service (22.5%), Business, Finance, and Administration (19.2%), and Trades, Transport and Equipment Operators (14.1%).

Peel’s employed residents largely relied on car, truck or van transportation to get to work (83.0%), while 13.6% used public transit, and the remaining 3.4% walked, rode a bicycle, or used another mode of transportation. The majority of Peel’s employed population leaves for work between 7:00-9:00 a.m., with 57.0%, 54.7%, and 47.1% of Mississauga, Caledon, and Brampton workers respectively leaving at this time.

Over half of Peel’s population aged 15 years and over (55.8%) have a post-secondary certi�cate, diploma or degree. Of those, the top major �eld of study was Business, Management and Public Administration for each of Mississauga (25.7%), Brampton (24.5%), and Caledon (23.0%).

Between May 11, 2006 and May 11, 2011, 39.3% of Peel’s population changed their place of residence. Brampton had the highest proportion of movers (42.6%), followed by Mississauga (38.0%) and Caledon (26.4%). Of Peel’s residents who moved in this timeframe, 80.5% came from within Ontario.
