Français Vivre dans le Nagoya urbain peut être épuisant ! Dans un endroit qui, à plu-sieurs égards, est un grand quartier financier, l’agitation et le bruit constants d’une ville qui ne dort jamais devient dans le fond, accablant. Alors que j’ai l’impression que Montréal garde une certaine joie de vivre distante, Nagoya par contre semble constamment être sur « avance rapide ». Ce n’est pas du tout une mauvaise chose, en aucun cas : cela donne une ville ani-mée, moderne, dynamique, pleine de secrets à découvrir. Elle a cependant un rythme cer-tainement différent de celui de chez nous.

J’ai décidé de prendre une pause, puis d’explorer un côté du Japon que je n’avais encore jamais eu l’occasion de voir. J’ai donc embarqué un long weekend le train lent, mais dévoilant un parcours panoramique de trois heures vers Koya-san. Koya-san est une montagne imposante dans la préfecture de Wakayama qui abrite le centre bouddhiste japonais ésotérique de 1 200 ans, fondé par

un moine Kukai. Cet ancien grand ensemble de temples, qui couvre plusieurs kilomètres du sommet de la montagne, possède 120 petits temples, ainsi qu’un cimetière mas-sif et enchanteur dans le coeur des forêts de montagne. Cet endroit abrite près de 4 000 résidents permanents dans ce qu’on appelle maintenant la ville de Koya.

Ces petits temples disposent de ce qu’on ap-pelle shukubo, logements prévus autrefois aux pèlerins passant, maintenant principale-ment utilisés par les touristes comme moi. J’ai séjourné dans un beau temple nommé Rengejo-in, pourvu de moines qui nous ont aimablement servi des repas végétariens délicieux et laissés observer leur psalmodie matinale. Avec les pièces du temple tradition-nellement disposées et un beau jardin de ro-ches dans l’enceinte du temple, rester dans le shukubo sévère me donnait l’impression de participer à quelque chose d’historique. Tôt le matin, j’ai parcouru Oku-no-in, cimetière le plus large du Japon avec une estimation

Life in central Nagoya can be exhausting! In a place that is in many ways one big financial district, the constant bustle and noise of a city that barely sleeps ends up being quite overwhelming. Whereas I feel Montréal retains a certain aloof joie de vivre, Nagoya seems to be constantly on “fast-forward”. This is not at all a bad thing, by any means: it makes for a vibrant, modern, energetic city, full of secrets waiting to be found out, but it absolutely has a different rhythm than back home.

I decided to take a break and explore a side of Japan that I hadn’t had a chance to see yet. I hopped on the slow but scenic three-hour train to Kōya-san during a long weekend. Kōya-san is an imposing mountain in Wakayama prefecture which houses the 1,200 year-old centre of Japanese Esoteric Buddhism, founded by the monk Kukai. This ancient temple complex, which spans many kilometers of the mountaintop, also contains 120 smaller temples, as well as a massive and enchanting graveyard in the heart of the mountain forests. The area has become home to nearly 4,000 permanent residents, in what is now called the town of Kōya.

These smaller temples have lodgings avail-able, called shukubo, which were once meant for passing pilgrims but now are used mainly by tourists such as myself. I stayed in a beautiful temple called Rengejo-in, staffed by the resident monks who kindly fed us delicious vegetarian meals and allowed us to observe their morning chanting. With tradi-tionally laid-out temple rooms and a beautiful

rock garden on the temple grounds, staying in the austere shukubo felt like I was truly participating in something historic.

In the early morning, I walked through Oku-no-in, Japan’s largest cemetery with an estimated half-million graves belonging to some of the most prominent people of the last thousand or so years. The moss-covered graves and memorials sit timelesslessly amongst towering cedars, many hundreds of years old. It is a moving and magic place unlike anything I’ve ever seen. The forest path leads eventually to the most sacred site on the mountain: Kukai’s mausoleum, where the belief is that he remains alive in eternal meditation. Here, travelers become deeply reverent and the stillness has a heavy pres-ence.

Getting the opportunity to experience such deep-rooted history in such a wondrous place was a privilege. The scenery – towering ancient pagodas amidst the rolling mountain greenery – was nothing short of breathtaking. Also witnessing the deep respect visitors had for the rich historical and religious signifi-cance of the place was an emotional experi-ence, even for an outsider like myself. I hope some of you back home have the opportunity to visit one day! Now back in Nagoya, I already feel I need to return to see how Kōya looks in fall colours. Until next time!

Trouver un article sur le mois de juin au Japon a été très difficile...il y a trop de choix! Je pourrais parler des festivals comme de la nourriture ou des coutumes vestimentaires. Je cherche toujours à trouver un thème qui est peut-être moins connu pour les lecteurs (je l'espère pour les Japonais autant que les non-Japonais) donc, lais-sons de côté un article sur lehiyashi chuka et parlons plutôt de takigi nou.

D'accord, le terme nou ce n'est pas du nouveau mais, qu'est-ce que c'est vraiment le nou? C'est japonais, c'est ancien, il y a des masques....euh,voilà! L'art du nou fut développé à l'époque Muromachi et date donc du 14e siècle; Nous pouvons remer-cier le clan des Ashikaga qui permit son essor même si l'attrait du nou n'est plus à son apogée comme il l'a été lors de l'époque Edo. Le nou est un drame musical seulement inter-prété par des hommes, ces derniers faisant du yokyoku(entre le chant et le récit) accompagnés d'un petit or-chestre avec 1 shinobue (flûte) et 3 tambours: shime daiko, outsuzumi et kotsuzumi. Il existe 5 catégories et 2 styles de nou qui se basent soit sur le Heike monogatari ou le Genji mo-nogatari.En tant que gaijin je cher-che un point de repère pour le nou, serait-ce l'opéra ou s'apparente-t-il plutôt aux chants liturgiques ou est-ce simplement un art à part?

Takigi nou veut dire nou à la lumière du feu puisque c'est une représen-tation qui se donne la nuit. Ceci se faisait traditionnellement à l'époque Heian à Nara au Kofuku ji mais se tient maintenant au Heian jingu de Kyouto. Yamete! Je croyais que le nou venait de l'époque Muromachi? Le nou en tant qu'on le connaît vi-ent effectivement de cette époque mais, ces racines proviennent du sarugaku (théâtre populaire et comique, pensez à la comedia del arte) de l'époque Heian .Il me sem-ble donc naturel qu'à l'heure actuelle les représentations soient faites au Heian jingu, un reproduction par-tielle du palais de Nara. Sou desu ka, dur à suivre! Revenons donc au takigi nou qui est lié à la cérémonie shuni e, dédiée à la collecte de takigi (feu de bois) pour le Kofuku ji; Cette tradition aurait débutée en 869.

Le 1er et 2 juin vous pourrez donc voir à Kyouto les acteurs, revêtus de nou men ou omote (masque) laqués et somptueux costumes, illu-minés sur une estrade polie faite en hinoki (cyprès) et s'inspirant des es-trades kagura (célébration des dieu)

des temples shinto. Les billets se vendent en avril donc, si vous êtes au Japon en juin, j'espère que vous les avez déjà achetés!

日本の6月の記事を一つ選ぶことは本当に難しい。というのも話題が多すぎるからです！祭りや食べ物、衣服に関する習慣、なんでも書くことがあります。私は読者の皆さん（日本人であろうがそれ以外の人であろうが）があまりご存じでない話題をいつも探しています。ですから、冷やし中華の話題を横において、薪能を取り上げることにします。

さて、「能」ということばは新しくありませんが、「能」とは本来何なのでしょうか？日本の古代では。。。そうそう、仮面があります、ね！能芸術は室町時代に発達しましたので14世紀の話です。江戸時代に全盛期を迎えた後人気は衰退したけれど、ありがたいことに足利氏のおかげで有名になったのです。能は男性のみが演じる音楽劇で、篠笛（1名）と太鼓（締太鼓、大鼓、小鼓の3名）の楽人を伴った謡曲（詠唱と朗読の混ぜ合わせ）で物語が進められます。能は5種類、2つの様式（平家物語または源氏物語を元にしたもの）に分けられます。外人として能の基準点を探しているのですが、これはオペラなのでしょうか、または礼拝的な詠唱？それとも単なる別の芸術体系なのでしょうか？

薪能は夜に上演されるので「火明かりの能」です。平安時代に奈良の興福寺で伝統的に上演されていましたが、現在では京都の平安神宮で行われています。と、いうことは。。。能は室町時代に始まったが、現在我々の知っている能はこの時代のものなんです、ね！つまり、起源は平安時代の猿楽（コンメディア・デッラルテ*を思わせる人気のある娯楽劇形態）なのです。ですから、奈良の宮殿の部分的模造である平安神宮で現在上演されているのも納得のいくことです。おっと。。。話が少し混乱してきましたので薪能に戻しましょう。薪能は修二会の儀式に関連しており、興福寺のために集められた焚き木にささげられます。この伝統はどうも869年まで遡るようです。

6月1日および2日、京都では、漆塗りの能面（または面［おもて］）と豪華な衣装に身を纏った俳優が、神道舞台の神楽に刺激され、磨き上げられた檜舞台の火明かりに照らされて演舞するようすを見ることができます。チケットは4月に発売開始されていますので、6月に日本に行く人は既に購入されていることと思います。 ----------------------*16世紀中頃にイタリア北部で生まれた仮面を使用する即興演劇の一形態

Choosing an article for the month of June in Japan was really difficult...there are too many choices! I could write about festivals or food or even the traditions involving garments. I am always look-ing for a theme that is lesser known for readers (hopefully for those of you who are Japanese as well as non-Japanese) which is why we leave behind hiyashi chuka in favour of takigi nou.

Okay, the term nous is not new but, what exactly is nou? It is Japanese, ancient, there are masks...um,ya! The art of nouwas developed in the Muromachi era and therefore dates bake to the 14th century; We can thank the Ashikaga clan for its promi-nence even though its popularity has waned since its heyday during the Edo era. Nou is a musical drama that is interpreted only by men through yokyoku (a mix of chants and recital) who are accompanied by a small orchestra of 1shinobue (flute) and 3 drums: shime daiko, outsuzumi et kotsuzumi. There are 5 categories and 2 styles of nou that are based either on the Heike monogatari or the Genji monogatari. As a gaijin I am searching for a reference point for nou,would it be opera or is it closer to a form of lithurgical chanting or is it

simply a separate art form?Takigi nou means firelight nou since it is a performed at night. According to tradition this would take place during the Heian era in Nara at the Kofuku ji but, is now held at the Heian jingu in Kyouto. Yamete! I thought nou originated in the Muromachi period? The nou we see today is indeed from this era but, its roots are in sarugaku (a form of popular and comedic theatre, think of the comedia del art) from the Heian era. It seems befitting to me that it would therefore currently be held at the Heian jingu, a partial reproduction of the Nara palace. Sou desu ka, that was confusing! Let us return to takigi nou which is linked to the shuni e ceremony, dedicated to the collection of takigi (firewood) for the Kofuku ji; This tradition appar-ently dates back to 869.

In Kyouto on June 1st and 2nd you will be able to see actors, covered in lacquered nou men or omote (mask) and draped in sumptuous costumes, illuminated by firelight on a polished stage of hinoki (cypress), inspired by the shinto temple stages for kagura (god entertainment). Tickets were on sale in April so if you will be in Japan in June I hope you already purchased them!

d’un demi million de tombes apparte-nant à certaines personnes des plus remarquables des milles récentes an-nées. Les tombes et commémoratifs couverts de mousse reposent éternel-lement sous les imposants cèdres de plusieurs centaines d'années. C'est un endroit touchant et magique que je n'ai jamais rien vu de tel. Le sentier de la forêt mène éventuellement au lieu le plus sacré de la montagne : le mausolée de Kukai, où l'on croit qu'il demeure en vie dans une méditation éternelle. Ici, les voyageurs sont pro-fondément respectueux et le calme a une lourde présence.

Avoir eu l'occasion de connaître telle histoire profonde dans un endroit ex-traordinaire fut un privilège. La scène – anciennes pagodes imposantes parmi la verdure de la montagne on-dulante – était à couper le souffle. Avoir pu témoigner du respect pro-fond qu'avaient les visiteurs envers la signification historique riche et reli-gieuse de l'endroit fut une expérience émotionnelle, même pour un étranger comme moi. J'espère que certains d'entre vous chez nous auront un jour l'occasion de visiter ce lieu. Actuelle-ment de retour à Nagoya, j'éprouve déjà le besoin de retourner à Koya pour voir ses couleurs au printemps. À la prochaine !

名古屋中心街での生活にはうんざりさせられることがある！色んな意味で大金融地区と言われているところでは、絶え間ない街の喧騒と騒音で殆ど眠ることもできず閉口させられてしまいます。モントリオールでは人ごみから離れてある程度「人生を楽しむ」ことができますが、名古屋は常に「早送り」状態のように思います。このために街が活気に満ち、現代的でエネルギッシュになり、多くの人目のつかないものを見つけたくなるのでまんざら悪いことではないのですが、私の故郷とは完全に異なったリズムなのです。そこで、ここから遠ざかってまだ見る機会のなかった日本の一面を探索するこ

とに決めました。長期週末休暇に電車に飛び乗って3時間、ゆっくり景色を見ながら高野山に行きました。高野山は和歌山県にある威圧的な山で、1200年前にそこで空海僧が密教を開設して以来ずっと日本密教の中心となっています。往古の寺院の集団が山頂数キロに渡って広がっており、120寺の小さなお寺や山林の中心地にある心を奪う大規模な墓所もあります。この地域は高野町と呼ばれ、現在、約4000人の住民がいます。これらの小さい寺院は宿坊を兼ねており、以前は巡礼者のためのものでしたが現在では私のような観光客が主に利用しています。私は蓮華定院という美しい寺に滞在し、そこでは僧侶が親切にも美味しい菜食膳を出してくれたり朝の勤行している姿を見させてくれたりしました。部屋は伝統的なお寺の間取りで庭には美しい石庭。簡素な宿坊に滞在して、私は本当に歴史の一部になったような感じがしました。

早朝、推測して50万墓を数える日本最大の墓所である奥の院を歩き回りました。そこには過去約1000年におけるもっとも有名な人々が眠っています。樹齢何百年もの杉が聳え立つ間に苔の覆った墓や記念碑が時代を超越して建っています。かつて見たこともないような感動する魅力的な場所です。参道を進むと、最終的には最も神聖な場所である空海の御廟へ到着します。そこでは空海が現在も生きていて瞑想に入っていると信じられています。ここでは、旅行者はかなりうやうやしくなり、重 し々い静けさを感じます。

ジョナサン・ジョフは、カルガリー出身の映画監督。数々の受賞歴を誇る彼の最新作「バーレスク・アサシン」が、この夏日本で初上映されることになりました。バーレスクファンだけでなく、日常に刺激を求める人にぴったりのこの映画の魅力を、監督自身にインタビューしてみました。

◎監督としての、あなたのお仕事の流儀を教えていただけますか？

僕のやり方は、役者と脚本を一体にすることから始めるということに始まります。役者と脚本が一体になる撮影法が、僕にとって最も重要なんです。それ以外の全ての要素、たとえば照明、衣装、舞台美術なんかは、役者が脚本を噛み砕いて、お客さんにきちんと何かを伝えられることに比べたら些末な問題ですよね。バーレスク・アサシンは音楽、衣装、ヘアメイクやセットなど沢山の要素がギュッと詰まった映画ですけど、それでも役者本人よりそいつらが重要、なんてことはありえない。こだわりのショットや可愛い衣装、上質な舞台美術にこだわる監督は多いです。でも僕にとって大事なのはそこじゃない。映画に初参加の役者に関しても、その人の中からリアルな演技を引き出すべき。

監督として学び、経験を積んだことで、たとえ新人を指導する時でも、たとえ撮影時間が非常に限られていても、僕はそれができるようになりました。

◎この映画の唯一無二の魅力とは？

うーん、難しい質問だなあ！低予算で映画を作るのは、かなりの冒険なんですよ。低予算映画はふつう衣装やセット、役者を世界中から呼び寄せる予算、そしてふんなんな音楽、なんてものとは無縁ですからね。その意味ではこの企画は他に類を見ない出来上がりだと思います。あと、この映画がバーレスクという１つの業界にこだわって作ったことも特筆すべきだと思います。ドキュメンタリーではこういうことは当たり前ですが、フィクションでは珍しいと思います。このやり方、映画作りの新しいトレンドになるんじゃないかなあ。バーレスクみたいな、各都市に数百人のファンがいて、それが全てつながっているような業界が他にもあり、そしてファンが製作を応援してくれたら、いい映画ができるんじゃないでしょうか。

FrançaisJonathan Joffe, natif de Calgary, est un réalisteur qui a obtenu plusieurs prix pour son oeuvre. Cet été, son dernier film, Burlesque Assassins, sera présenté pour la première fois au Japon. Je suis aller le rencontrer pour en savoir plus sur ce film qui tient en haleine non seulement les amateurs de burlesque, mais aussi ceux qui cherchent du piquant dans leur vie.

en tant que réalisateur, pouvez-vous nous parler du style de vos films?

Ma méthode de travail apparaît lor-sque je commence à intégrer les ac-teurs dans le scénario. La manière que ces acteurs vont se matérialiser dans le film est ce que je recherche avant tout. L'éclairage, les costumes ou le jeu des acteurs, ce sont des pec-cadilles comparés au travail de faire surgir un message par les acteurs par l'entremise du scénario. Burlesque As-sasssins présente une surcharge de musique, de costumes, de coiffures et de décors, mais tout ça n'a jamais été aussi important que les acteurs. La plupart des réalisateurs veulent des beaux plans, des costumes mignons et un jeu d'acteur subtil. Pas moi. Avec des acteurs qui jouent dans un film pour la première fois, je peux soutirer une performance réaliste. Et en dir-igeant des débutants ou me mesurant à une période de tournage ridiculement limitée, j'ai accumulé de l'expérience et maintenant je suis capable de faire des films. J'ai appris à devenir réalisateur « sur le tas », comme on dit.

Qu'est ce qui fait le charme unique de ce film?

Um... question difficile! Faire un film à petit budget, c'est toute une aven-ture. Les composantes habituelles d'un film comme les costumes, les dé-cors, la musique de fond et le budget pour inviter des acteurs de partout

dans le monde, toutes ces choses sont délaissées faute de moyens. En d'autres mots, je pense qu'il n'y a pas d'équivalents à ce projet. Je crois aussi que ce film mérite d'être vu pour sa vi-sion du monde burlesque. C'est cour-ant de présenter un fait de société par l'intermédiaire du documentaire, mais par la fiction, c'est rare. Cette façon de présenter un sujet, peut-être que ce sera une nouvelle tendance. Si les quelques centaines de fans, de bur-lesque ou d'autre, qu'on peut trouver dans toutes les villes du monde se ti-ennent les coudes, on serait capables de faire un bon film, n'est-ce pas?

aux Japonais qui n'ont pas encore vu le film, pouvez-vous leur faire un message?

Bon visionnement!Faites-vous plaisir et allez voir Bur-lesque Assassins. Vous goûterez le plaisir du burlesque et vous en sau-rez plus long sur cet univers, qui est, selon moi, le plus amusant des arts. Plusieurs personnes rêvent de mener une vie excitante et sensuelle, non? Surement, l'intrigue et le libertinage de Burlesque Assassins va plaire aux indi-vidus en quête de piquant.

Jonathan Joffe is an award-winning film director from Calgary. In the summer of 2013, in Tokyo, there will be a screening of his latest movie, "Burlesque Assassin"! This movie is not only for burlesque fans - but also, for the many people looking for 'Spice' in their daily life! I interviewed Jonathan about the 'Spice' of his movie....

◎what makes the movie 'Bur-lesque Assassin' unique?

So many things! It is a very ambitious film for such a low budget. Most low budget films don’t have lots of cos-tumes and sets and people flying in from all over the world, and so much music. So the scope of the film was very unique. It was also unique that the film was made for a very specific community. Lots of documentaries will be made for a community, but

very few fictional movies are made for a community. So that was very unique. I think this is going to be a new trend in filmmaking. If there is community (like burlesque) that has a few hundred fans in every city that are all connected, it’s possible to have all those people support a project and make a successful film.

◎What is your style as a director?

My style as a director is to start to base everything around the actors and the script. The way the actors and the script come together is the most important thing to me. All the other things, the lighting, costumes, sets, and everything else are much less important than working with the actors to turn the words on the script page into something that will matter to the audience. Even though ‘Bur-lesque Assassins’ has lots of music and costumes and makeup and sets, these were never more important than the actors. Many directors would

have sacrificed some time working with the actors to get more elaborate shots or prettier costumes, or better sets. I didn’t want to do that. Even though the actors were new to film, I still knew that we would have to get real film performances out of them, and all my training as a director led me to be able to do this, even with inexperienced actors and with a very small amount of time.

“Café Humble Lion” 904 Sherbrooke Ouest

キズナ・ブログ・プロジェクト表彰式「キズナ強化プロジェクト」の一環として、モントリオールから、トラファルガー女子高校（Trafalgar School for Girls）の学生及び教師 25 名が、平成 25 年 1 月 4 日から 15 日まで

訪日しました。

訪日の際の感想を書いたブログを集めたキズナ・ブログ・プロジェクトの表彰式が５月２１日に開催され，トラファルガー女子校の生徒４名（ Emma Butson，Kate Whitmore 及び Camille Cockerton-Michaela Field ）が賞状を授与しました。

日本の街角に必ずあるのが“コンビニ”ならば、モントリオールの街角に必ずあるのが“CAFÉ”。モントリオールで生活する人々とってに欠かせないもの、それがコーヒーなんじゃないかと思う。

自称、モントリオールの“コーヒー豆”、コーヒー大好きの友人が、マギル大学の正門前にちょっと気になる店があるというので行ってみた。それが、今年1月にオープンした“Humble Lion”だ。オーナーは、Yvan Marcoux さんとJason Maloさん。2人ともいわゆる、脱サラで、お互いが別々にcafé の経営に興味を持ち出したときに知り合ったという。

「店の名前Humbleは、常に持っている知識を共有してみんなで楽しみを分かち合える偉大な我々コーヒー業界の仲間達に敬意の印として選んだんだ 。そして、Lionのように、本物の強さと力を持った人こそが謙虚であることを忘れないでおこうということなんだ」2人のコーヒーに対する情熱と敬意が店の名前に込められているだけあって、大きな窓から差し込む自然の光に満たされながら、厳選された豆で入れられたコーヒーと、甘さ控えめのホームメードスタイルのスコーンやマフィンを楽しめる場所なのが嬉しい。

店内のインテリアや装飾も、まさに店のコンセプトを象徴している。間口はそれほど広いわけでもないのに、高い天井と控えめなのにこだわりのあるインテリアがセンスのよさを際立たせている。モントリオールの街について聞いてみると、2人とも「モントリオールは小さい街だけど、すばらしい人との出会いや新しいものを見つけられる場所」と答えてくれた。Jasonさんは「いろんな街に住んだけど、やっぱりモントリオールに戻ってきた」とも言ってくれた。私達が訪れたのは朝と昼の中間、店内では、学生やビジネスマンがPCに向かって作業をしていた。至るとこにコンセントがあるのも、居心地良い場所であって欲しいという、お客さんに対する心遣いのひとつだろう。

Yvanさんは、日本建築好きが高じて、自宅には畳と床の間を備えた茶室を作った大の親日家でもある。控えめだけと、信念に基づいた熱い想いはちゃんと胸に秘めて、妥協はしない。仲間と人生を楽しもう、そんなモントリオールらしい生き方に似合った街角のCAFÉだ。

Dans les rues du Japon, on trouve des "dépanneurs" mais à Mon-tréal on trouve plutôt des «cafés». Je pense que le café est un élé-ment indispensable pour les Montréalais

Mon ami surnommé "grains de café à Montréal" qui adore le café, m'a dit qu'il y avait un café attrayant en face de l'entrée principale de l'Université McGill, alors j’y suis allé. C’est le "Lion Humble" qui vient d’ouvrir en Janvier 2013.

Les propriétaires sont M. Jason Malo et M. Yvan Marcoux. Ils ont tous les deux abandonné le travail de salariés et se sont rencontrés quand tous deux commençait à s’intéresser à la gestion d’un café.

"Nous avons choisi le nom Humble comme une marque de respect envers tous les gens formidables qui travaillent dans notre industrie du café et qui sont toujours heureux de partager leurs connais-sances. Et aussi pour nous rappeler que ce sont des personnes humbles qui ont la vrai force, comme le Lion ".

Comme le nom de la boutique représente leur respect et leur pas-sion pour le café, c’est un endroit ou nous pouvons profiter du bon café fait de grains de café sélectionnés et la douceur des scones et

des muffins faits maison, éclairé par une lumière naturelle qui entre par des grandes fenêtres.Le design intérieur et la décoration aussi symbolisent vraiment leur concept. Bien que l’entrée ne soit pas très large, la hauteur du plafond et les meubles discrets mais chics dénotent leur bon gout.J’ai posé une question à propos de Montréal et ils ont répondu tous les deux, "Montréal est une petite ville mais on peut rencontrer des gens intéressants et découvrir des nouvelles choses."M. Jason a dit aussi "J'ai vécu dans différentes villes, mais je suis finalement revenu à Montréal."Nous avons visité ce café entre le matin et le midi. Il y avait des étudiants et des hommes d'affaires qui travaillaient sur leur PC. Le fait que les sorties sont installés partout aussi montre leurs considérations pour les clients pour que ça soit toujours un endroit agréable pour eux.

M. Yvan est un Japanophile! Il apprécie l'architecture traditionnelle japonaise et il a construit un salon de thé japonais avec des tatamis dans sa maison.Ils sont authentiques, mais ne font jamais de compromis et gardent leur passion basée sur leur croyance intérieurs et profitons de la vie avec les amis. C'est un café du coin qui se mélange bien au style de vie Montréalais!

The "convenience store" is everywhere you look on the streets of Japan and the "café" is everywhere on the streets of Mon-treal. It seems that drinking coffee is fundamental to living in Montreal.

My caffeine-loving friend who once nicknamed himself “coffee beans in Montreal” told me he was excited that a new café was opening up across from the main gate of McGill Uni-versity. The café he was referring to is "Humble Lion," and it opened in January of this year. The owners are Mr. Jason Malo and Mr. Yvan Marcoux. They quit their jobs at a company to start this café. They met each other when they were both interested in café management.

“We chose the name ‘Humble’ to show our respect towards all of the great people working in our industry, those who are always happy to share their knowledge. The most brilliant individuals are really humble, and it reminds us that we should be humble too. ‘Lion’ is a symbol of strength and power,” Mr. Marcoux said.

Just like the name of their shop demonstrates their respect and passion for coffee, so does the quality of their food and

drinks. Their coffee is made with selected beans, while the homemade scones and muffins are sweet and delicious. It is a pleasurable experience to enjoy a coffee and some sweets while the natural light pours through the large windows.

The way they have decorated their store perfectly represents their concept. Though the café isn’t overly spacious, the high ceiling and chic decor demonstrates their good taste. When I asked what they thought about Montreal, they both responded: “Montreal is small, but packed with amazing and talented people; it’s a place to discover.” Mr. Malo told me: "I have lived in various towns but, in the end, I came back to Montreal."When we visited the café one late morning, students and busi-nessmen were there working on their laptops. Lucky for them, there are outlets everywhere! It seems that the owners made sure that their café is always a cozy place for their customers.

Also of note, Mr. Marcoux is a Japanophile! He appreciates traditional Japanese architecture and he even built a Japa-nese tea room with tatami in his house!

These two men are modest, but they never compromise. Their passion is based on the belief in their bosoms.What a perfect example of a corner café that nicely comple-ments the way of life in Montreal!

旧市街。ノートルダム東通りのちょうど４００番地に、レストランLes 400 Coupsが佇んでいます。フランソワ・トリュフォー監督の代表作でもあるLes 400 Coups（邦題「大人は判ってくれない」）は、フランス語慣用表現で「あらゆる愚行をし尽くす」という意味。愚行を含めた日常をしばし離れ、今日は雰囲気たっぷりのレストランで、優雅にランチとまいりましょう。

2010年年末のオープン以来賑わいが絶えないこのお店には３人の大黒柱がいます。料理担当マルク・アンドレ・ジュテシェフ、デザート担当のパトリス・ドゥメールシェフ、そしてフロア責任者のマリ・ジョゼ・ボードゥワンさんです。３人は揃ってケベック観光ホテル学院（ITHQ）の同窓生。それぞれが欧州を含めたあらゆる有名レストランで修業を重ねた後に集結し、満を持してこちらのお店をオープンしました。３人に共通する思いは、お客様に「快適な空間で洗練された料理を提供し、一期一会の経験をしていただくこと」。旬のもの、地元産の材料にこだわるのも、そんな３人の強い決意の表れです。

ベジタリアンの私の１皿目は、さきほど畑から引っこ抜かれてきたばかりの新鮮なきゅうりが主役。甘酸っぱいシポリーニ（玉ねぎ）のマリネ、軽い仕上がりのエシャロットのフライが乗っかり、ヨーグルトとディジョンのからしで作られたホワイトソースが添えられています。生きたきゅうりは弾力があって旨さがはじけます。メインはラビオリ。辛みの効いた人参ソースはトロピカルなフルーツなどで彩られ、むしろシンプルな主役のラビオリをひきたてます。柔らかい皮はソースを吸収しやすくチーズの美味しさをそっとサポート。デザートはライチのグラニテ。エキゾチックな味に、ハイビスカスのチップスとホワイトチョコムースの甘さ、グレープフルーツの酸味、更にはカンパリのジュレが大人っぽさまで加えて、大芸術品の誕生です。

Le restaurant Les 400 coups se situe en 400 Notre-Dame Est Vieux Montréal. Les 400 coups est le chef-d’oeuvre de François Truffaut qui signifie "faire toutes les bêtises possibles". Aujourd’hui, nous nous éloignons de la vie quotidienne, de la

routine, et nous profitons d’un dîner élégant dans un restaurant qui a de l’ambiance.

ll y a trois piliers dans ce restaurant populaire, ouvert depuis 2010: Marc Andre Jetée le chef exécutif, Patrice Demers le chef pâtissier, et Marie-Josée Beaudoin la maître d'hôtel. Tous les trois ont gradué de l'Institut de Tourisme et d'Hôtellerie du Québec. Mon premier plat végétarien (en entrée) est constitué de con-combres fraichement récoltés, accompagnés de (la) marinade de cippoline (oignon) aigre douce, d’échalotte légèrement

frites, de sauce faite de yaourt et de moutarde de Dijon. Ces concombres sont si frais qu'ils sont croquants.Mon deuxième plat (plat principal) est des raviolis dont la sauce de carottes colorée avec des fruits tropicaux qui donne le goût piquant. L'envelope des raviolis est tendre et prend bien la sauce. Ceci fait un équilibre parfait avec le fromage.Le dessert est du granité de lyche, dont le gôut est exotique. D'un coté croustilles d’hibiscus et mousse de chocolat blanc. De l'autre, acidité du pamplemousse. De plus, la gelée de campari ajoute un petit goût amère que les palais fins pourront apprécier. C’est un chef-d’oeuvre!

The restaurant Les 400 Coups is located on 400 Notre-Dames East in Old Montreal.

”Les 400 Coups” (“The 400 Blows” in English) is a representative work of Director François Truffaut. In French, it is an idiomatic expression that means “to do all foolish things possible.” Today, let's step away from our daily foolishness to have an elegant lunch at a restaurant that is rich in atmosphere.

There are three main characters who run this popular eating place that opened near the end of 2010. Marc-André Jetté is Executive Chef, Patrice Demers is Pastry Chef, and Marie-Josée Beaudoin is Maître d’Hôtel. All three of them went to the Institut de Tourisme et d'Hotellerie du Québec. They got together to open this restaurant after each of them were trained at various famous restaurants, including locations in Europe. Their shared idea is to offer customers refined dishes in a comfortable space, to help them experience a once-in-a-lifetime encounter. Being so particular about seasonal and local foods goes to show just how determined they are.

For my first dish (I'm a vegetarian), the main ingredient was a fresh cucumber right from the garden. It was covered in Cipollini onions marinated in a sweet-and-sour sauce and light-tasting fried shallots, while a sauce made of yogourt and Dijon mustard was on the side. The fresh cucumber was nice and crunchy and its taste burst in my mouth.

My main dish was a simple ravioli whose flavours were brought out by the spicy carrot sauce decorated with tropical fruits. The ravioli’s soft dough was well soaked in the sauce, which nicely complemented the taste of the cheese.

Dessert was lychee granité! Hibiscus chips gave it an exotic taste that was a combination of the sweetness of white chocolate mousse and the sourness of grapefruit. Moreover, the campari gelée helped add a mature flavour to the dish. It was like a great work of art!

国際結婚が破たんした親が相手に無断で子供を自国に連れ帰った場合、子供を元の居住国に戻すことなどを定めた「ハーグ条約」について、トロント日系文化会館で「日本とカナダとハーグ条約」と題するセミナーが開かれた。ジャパニーズ・ソーシャル・サービス（ＪＳＳ）のカウンセラー、公家孝典（くげ・たかのり）氏がハーグ条約に関する具体的な情報を提供した。公家カウンセラーのお話をもとに、ハーグ条約の要旨を述べてみたい。

「国際的な子の奪取」とは？

この条約に加盟している国は、昨年（2012年）末現在、欧州、北米、中南米、アフリカ、オーストラリアなど89カ国。日本では、ハーグ条約について長年にわたり検討されてきたが、今年４月19日、衆議院外務委員会でこの条約の承認案を全会一致で可決、遅くとも５月末までには国会で承認されることがほぼ確実となった。ハーグ条約では、条約に加盟している国との間で不法な「国際的な子の奪取・連れ去り」が起きた場合、「子供が連れ去られた国」から「連れ去りが起こる前に子供が居住していた国」への子供の迅速な返還が義務付けられている。

カナダ政府は、夫婦の一方が子供を連れて母国などを訪問する場合、夫と妻の双方が合意した旨の必要事項を記入した書類「Consent Letter for a Child Travelling Abroad」を携行することを義務付けている。この書類には、連れて行く子供の名前、生年月日と出生地、パスポート番号と発行日付、発行した国、親の名前、生年月日と出生地、パスポート番号と発行日付、発行した国、カナダ出国日と入国日の予定、申請者の住所・連絡先などを記入する。この書類を持っていないと、子供を連れて日本を訪問した日本人の妻が、カナダに戻ってきた際、空港などの移民局のオフィサーにとがめられることもあるので、注意が必要だ。この書類の様式（interactive .pdf form）は下記ウェブサイトからピックアップできる。

に注目を

もし日本政府が「共同親権の概念すらない日本の現状」と「これにかかる他の条約加盟国の基準」との間のかけ離れたギャップをすり合わせるための十分な法整備（特に家族法の整備）を行わないまま、ハーグ条約に加盟するのであれば、さまざまな問題や矛盾が生じてくるのは目に見えている。これからの日本政府の動向に注目したい。

最後に、公家氏は、「すでに国際結婚している人はもちろん、特にこれから国際結婚をするかも知れないと考えている人も、今後の日本のハーグ条約に関する動きに注目し、この条約に関するきちんとした知識を得ることが重要になってくるでしょう」と、結んだ。

Selon la Convention de La Haye, lors d’un enlèvement international illégal d’enfant ou de droits de garde et de visite non respectés, les pays signataires doivent impérativement rendre l’enfant, qui quittera le pays où il vit depuis son enlèvement pour rejoindre le pays où il résidait avant son enlèvement.

C’est un docu-ment très important car si votre conjoint(e) ne l’a pas au moment de son retour au Canada, l’agent du bureau d’immigration pourrait le lui reprocher. Suivez les évolutions de la Con-vention de la HayeSi le gouvernement japonais ne fait rien pour aménager la loi (et notamment la loi sur la famille) pour qu’il n’y ait pas de grand écart entre « la situation actuelle, où le concept d’autorité parentale conjointe n’existe pas » et « les critères des autres pays signataires de la convention », les contradictions et prob-lèmes découlant de la situation seront visi-bles. Il sera intéressant de suivre les orien-tations du gouvernement japonais. M. Kuge conclut en disant qu’il est « important, pour les personnes engagées dans un mariage in-ternational mais aussi pour celles qui pensent à contracter un tel mariage, de se renseigner sur la Convention de La Haye et de suivre ce que le gouvernement japonais fera ». A seminar on the Hague Convention, entitled “The Hague Convention for Japan and Canada” was held at the Japanese Canadian Cultural Center in Toronto. The Convention established that a child should be returned to his/her country of residence when a parent who ended an international marriage abducts the child and returns to his/her home country without the other parent's permission. Mr. Takanori Kuge, a counselor at the Japanese Social Services (JSS), provided specific information about the Hague Convention. Here is a summary of the Hague Convention based on Mr. Kuge's talk.

what is “international child abduction” ?There are 89 countries who are members of The Hague Convention, from all around Europe, North America, Central and South America, Africa and Australia, as of the end of last year, 2012. In Japan, the Hague Convention has been discussed, and on April 19th of this year, the proposed treaty was unanimously passed by the Lower House Foreign Affairs Committee and it will almost certainly be approved by the end of May at the latest. Under the Hague Convention, when illegal

“international child abduction or removal of children” occurs among the countries which have joined in the treaty, it is their duty to promptly return the abducted child to “the country where the child/children had been residing before the abduction took place” from “the country where the child/children had been abducted too.”

Be sure to carry a written mutual consent letter, signed by both parents when returning to Japan with your childrenThe Canadian government requires carrying a “Consent Letter for Children Traveling Abroad” document, which both husband and wife sign and agree to, when one spouse visits their home country with children. In this document, you need to fill the names of both parents and children who will travel with you, your respective birth date, birthplace, passport number, issue date and issuing country, departure date and expected returning date to Canada, along with the address and contact information of the applicant. Caution must be exercised, because if you do not have this document with you at the airport, Canadian immigration officers may reproach a Japanese wife who returns to Canada after visiting Japan with her children.

Follow developments of the Hague convention, if you are considering starting an international marriageIf the Japanese Government is a member of the Hague Convention without adequate development of family laws to minimize the gaps between “the Japanese current situation, where there is not even a concept of joint custody” and “the standard of other member countries of the convention “, it is only a matter of time before it leads to various problems and controversy. It is noteworthy to watch the moves of the Japanese government from now on. Mr. Kuge concluded by saying that “It will become important not only for those who have already been in an international marriage, but also especially for those who are considering one, to follow up on the moves of Japan in relation to the Hague Convention and obtain adequate knowledge about the Convention.
