The Lions Camp Badger
Golf Classic 2014 is set for Friday,
September 19 beginning with a 1 p.m.
shotgun start. The outing will once again
be held at the Bristol Harbour Golf Course
in Canandaigua. Registration is now open. The outing is
held using the "scramble" format. You do not have to be an
outstanding golfer to participate. It is more important to
want to have some fun while at the same time helping out
Camp Badger.
The cost to play is $95 per golfer or $380 per foursome.
The price includes golf, cart, lunch, dinner and prizes. In
the past two years the Golf Classic has raised nearly
$10,000 for the Camp. You can play, volunteer, become a
sponsor or help us find door prizes. You can also encourage
your district and your club to become a sponsor. Sponsor-
ship levels run all the way from $1200 to $30. The more
help we get; the more help we can pass on to Lions Camp
Badger.
Information for players, sponsors and those who wish to
volunteer or donate is available from PCC Gary Brown.
Contact him at [email protected] or call 315-543-7352
or 315-486-8195 (cell). I ask for your help not only for my-
self but also for the kids at Camp. They count on us. Let's
be thee for them again while we have a little fun. I hope to
hear from you and see you on September 19.

Hello, my name is Betsy Cummings, I reside inupstate nY in the small town of Gouverneur. Iam a hairdresser and a happily married motherof 3 grown children, and a Grandmother of 3grandsons with two more grandchildren on theway. The reason I am writing this story is to tellyou about two of my grandsons, Daimon andSeeley, who have been blind from birth with bi-lateral detached retinas and what our local Lion'sclubs have done for us.
Bills started coming in from upstate universityHospital in Syracuse, Boston and ones from giv-ing birth to him just a few months before. I wastalking to a customer who belonged to the Gou-verneur Lion's Club. She said to come to one ofthe meetings and ask for their help paying forthe bills as that is one of the reasons for their ex-istence. So, Tiffany and I went to one of themeetings and they were very interested in hear-ing about Daimon and his case and what we hadall been through. They did help us and I decidedto pay it forward and joined the GouverneurLion's club myself after a couple of visits as aguest.
The Gouverneur Lion's club helps us with gasand hotel fees just about every time we make thetrip to Michigan. We wouldn't have been able tomake the trips as easily without their help! Wehave made 10 trips in 17 months.
Seeley, was born we saw the same thing in hiseyes as we saw in Daimon's.
The Lion's Club is not just there for monetaryhelp, but they have been a blessing as a moralsupport group also. not just our local group, butalso the surrounding groups. When they hearabout our misfortune, they have also sent us gascards.
Daimon can see bright light, like sunlight or theflash of the camera, and Seeley now has a littlebit of a redish reflect in his left eye and can seelight also.

HEUVELTON ALPHA LEOSMD-20 NEW YORK/BERMUDA CONVENTIONat Lake Placid
As Lion Scott and I were coming back fromlunch on Saturday, we noticed a group of youngpeople in purple tee shirts lined up by two out-side of the convention center. I made the com-ment, “Look Scott, those are Leos! They arevery young Leos”! We didn’t think much about itagain, until right before tear down of our LionsEye Institute/Lions Foundation at Albany Booth, when I started seeing the purple tee shirts again. As I realized they were making their way around
the exhibit hall, I was excited to meet this groupand talk to them.
Identifying one of the adults with them, LionNancy LaFaver, I found out they were theHeuvelton Leo Club. I thought to myself what awonderful experience to take a group of Leos tothe MD-20 New York/Bermuda Convention! What really surprised me was their ages! When Ithink of a Leo group, I automatically think ofHigh School age teens and pre teens! This groupof twenty eight youngsters were from fifth gradethrough eighth grade!
As I waited for them to congregate for a groupphoto in front of our booth, I asked Lion Nancysome questions about the group. Lion Nancy isone of their advisors, and is from their sponsor-ing Heuvelton Lions Club, District 20W. She isalso the District 20W Leo Chairperson. (Forthose who don’t know, Heuvelton, NY is betweenCanton and Ogdensburg, NY, in St. LawrenceCounty.)
I was amazed to learn about this eager groupof young volunteers! The Heuvelton Leos areseven years old, and currently have twenty eightmembers grades five through eight. This is just aglimpse of what their busy fundraising and com-munity service year looks like! The Glens Falls Lions Club held their annual
“Garden Planting and Picnic Meeting at Cran-dall Park, Tuesday, May 27. Lions Scott andKaren Rager planted purple ageratum and or-ange marigolds, Lions colors, in their circulargarden on the Glens Street side of the park. After, the club held their meeting and picnicunder the park’s large pavilion.
