President Lacourse has reached out to a number of the media and is pleased that there will be some partnerships in the future for potential weekly columns for the chamber items. Congratulations went to the organizers of Space Week in October. This will be the first time our area has participated in this international week; the or- ganizers have a full agenda with an education day, industry day and community day on Oct 8, 9, & 10, 2015. The Saturday fi- nale is of course well known astronaut Colonel Chris Had- field at the Capital Centre and is sure to be a sell out. President Lacourse encouraged members to get your tickets now for this event. With the Federal Election scheduled for Monday, October 19th which is the usual kick-off date to national Small Business Week, the committee is chang- ing their format. Instead of the Monday being the kick-off with the annual awards night, the Evening of Excellence Awards will be the big finale to the week, on Thursday, October 22, 2015. Mark your calendars now for this date. The President congratulated the DIA on their announcement of their events that are happening during the Civic long weekend in concert with Summer in the Park. The DIA is organizing fantastic fun with Mayhem on Main dirt bike challenges, a Dodgeball competition with Rage in the Cage, Moonlight Madness along with a number of other free family fun events during that weekend. Congratulations went to John Strang and team at Summer in the Park who have reached well over 4,500 wristbands sold in the first month. Even though the individual ticket price has now gone up to $35 + HST as of June 1st, the Chamber will still honour bulk orders of 25 or more wristbands to businesses who still have yet to purchase them for their staff at the $25 + HST rate until June 30th. What a great way to thank your staff for their support and hard work all year long. Congratulations to all the par- ticipants and volunteers for rais- ing over $150,000 at this year’s Relay for Life - in efforts to fight cancer. Special thank you went to the organizing committee of Armed Forces Day last week was a great event. The static displays were amazing and of course the Snowbirds were an exciting addition to the event. Also that day the PanAm/ParaPanAm Torch Relay went through the City; thanks went to John Strang who was the Chamber’s torchbearer that day as well as all the other torchbearers that participated in this “once in a lifetime” event.
