Success Stories
Thank you All for your hard work!
A message from Katy Westacott (HT, St Margaret’s RC PS)
‘I just wanted to let you know that Annie Page organised an excellent Bilingualism sup-port morning at our school today with Antonella Sorace from Edinburgh University. It was a logistical challenge as she had all our local schools attending- Kirkliston, Echline, Queensferry and Dalmeny and the turnout was excellent! Annie had translators organised for the key languages and the children were involved too. As it was hosted in my school I was able to send a few of our teachers to try to upskill them at the same time. It was so well organised and appreciated by all the parents.’
GREAT JOB ANNIE!
‘After working closely (in a signing capacity) with Aleksander Winiarski,
I am very proud to share that he has successfully left school as a confi-
dent individual, having sat a mixture of Highers and national 5's. He has
even passed his CBT test and now has his own motorbike. ‘
Caroline Wilson
Good news is nice to share.
Well done to Caroline, who has made a real difference to a boy’s life.
Message from Derek Law, HT at Craiglockhart PS ‘Just to say that although she has only been with us for half a year and is now moving on due to the new ASL cluster re-arrangements, we have been very impressed by Aisling Groarke, She fitted in well to our staff team, liaising sensitively and effectively with all staff. She has shown great organisation skills. She has responded exceptionally well to the needs of the school. And, in particular, supported a couple of vulnerable children extremely well, contributing very well to child planning meetings and helping to things forward with these children. ‘Very impressed. So sad to be losing her but I am sure our new EAL teacher, Samina, will do a great job.’
Well done Aisling!

TRUE Colours: Inspiring Volunteers On 7 June, members of the TRUE Colours student equality group
at St Augustine's RC High School received an
Inspiring Volunteering Award.
The ceremony took place at the City Chambers, with the Lord
Provost presenting awards to teams and individuals from
across the city.
The TRUE Colours group, which is
supported by EAL staff at the
school, was commended for the
work it does to raise awareness
of equalities issues and to celebrate the diversity of Scot-
land.
This year the group has supported Polish National Day, Unity
and Diversity week, St Patrick's Day and Refugee Festival
Scotland.

Mary Morrison and Amanda Knani each gave a talk to the Second Year Primary BEd students at Moray House.
Claire Hornby invited them to give an input on their experience with ASN. Amanda talked about Looked After Children and the impact of trauma on learning and Mary talked about ASD.
They were explaining how they can support children with additional needs and discussed various inter-ventions designed to do this e.g Getting It Right & the child planning process; and the legal require-
ments they will be bound by such as In On The Act and the equalities law.
Mary also shared some personal experiences as the mother of a child with autism and spoke about how it is important to involve parents in decisions about their child.
Well done Ladies!
14th June 2017 Anne Davidson met with Dr Janet Richmond from Edith Cowan University,
Australia who was visiting Edinburgh to research Inclusive Practice, in particular
the CIRCLE Toolkit, with a view to developing a similar resource in Australia. Good luck Anne!
