The Silly Crow
One day a crow found a slice of bread in a
field. He picked it up and sat on a tree to eat. A
cunning fox was searching for food. When he saw
the crow with a bread, his mouth began to water.
He decided to get the bread from the crow any
how.
The fox greeted the crow and said, “Hello!
Dear friend, you look so beautiful. I am sure you
can sing very well. Can you please sing a song for
me?”
The silly crow was flattered. Nobody had ever
praised him before. So he opened his mouth to
sing for the cunning fox.
As he started to sing, the bread fell down
from his beak. The cunning fox picked up the
bread and ran away laughing at the silly crow. The
crow was very angry on himself for his
foolishness.

THE HUNTER AND THE PIGEONS
Once there was a flock of pigeons that lived in a banyan tree.
One day, the pigeons were flying in search of food. They saw
plenty of grains scattered on the ground. They felt very happy
and flew down to pick up the grains. Unfortunately, it turned
out to be a trap laid by a hunter. All the pigeons were trapped
in a net. The pigeons were scared. They knew that they were
going to die.
But the wise leader of the pigeons told them, “Don’t be
afraid. If we all fly together, with the net, we can escape.” The
pigeons flew together and were able to fly with the net. The
hunter was surprised to see the pigeons flying away. “I have
an old friend who can help us. He is a rat. Let us all go
there,” said the leader on the way.
He laid them to the friend’s place. The leader called out his
friend and he came out of his hole. Seeing his friend and the
other pigeons in trouble, the rat called his folks. All the rats
came out of their holes and worked on the net. They cut the
threads of the net with their sharp teeth. In no time the
pigeons were free. They were very happy. They thanked the
rats and flew home.

The Rabbit and his friends
Bunny was a lively rabbit. He was always in the
company of some animal or the other. He was friendly
with all of them.
Once, Bunny heard a pack of hunting dogs in the
forest. He was afraid that they would catch him. He
ran to a deer and said, “Dear brother, I heard a pack of
hunting dogs in the forest nearby. Please save me.
You have such sharp antlers. You can thrash them.
Please help me, friend!” The deer replied, “I am sorry,
Bunny. I am too busy to help you out. Go and find
someone else for your help.”
Bunny ran to many of his friends- the bear, the
monkey, the zebra, and even the panther. They all
gave the same reply. Finally, the tired bunny met a
mouse and told his pathetic state. The mouse replied,
“Why are you panicking. Just get into your burrow
and stay inside till the pack of hunting dogs leaves
this area. You shall be safe.” Bunny went happily to
his burrow.

THE FOX AND THE GRAPES
One day a fox was hungry. He had nothing to eat. He went here and there in search of food. He wandered about the whole day long, but could get nothing to eat. At last he came to a garden. There he saw grapes hanging from a vine. The grapes were ripe and nice. His mouth watered to see the grapes. He wanted to eat them. The grapes were high up. He jumped again-and-again to get at the grapes, but in vain. They were too high for him. At last he was tired. He gave up trying. He went away saying. “These grapes are sour, If I eat them, I shall fall ill.”

THE GREEDY MOUSE A greedy mouse saw a basket full of corn. He wanted to eat
it. So he made a small hole in the basket. He squeezed in through
the hole. He ate a lot of corn. He felt full and was very happy.
Now he wanted to come out. He tried to come out through
the small hole. He could not. His belly was full. He tried again.
But it was of no use.
The mouse started crying. A rabbit was passing by. It heard
the mouse’s cry and asked, “Why are you crying, my friend?”
The mouse explained, “I made a small hole and came into the
basket to eat the corn. Now I am not able to get out through that
hole.”
The rabbit said, “It is because you ate too much. Wait till your
belly shrinks.” The rabbit laughed and went away.
The mouse fell asleep in the basket. The next morning his
belly had shrunk. But he wanted to eat some more corn. He forgot
all about getting out of the basket. So he ate the corn and his belly
was really big again.
After eating, the mouse remembered that he had to escape.
But obviously, he could not. So he thought, “Oh! Now I will go
out tomorrow.”
The cat was the next passerby. He smelt the mouse in the
basket. He lifted its lid and the mouse ran away.

The Ant and the Grasshopper
Once upon a time there was a Grasshopper. He was hopping, chirping
and singing to its heart's content in a field in hot summer's day. There
was an ant staying nearby the grasshopper’s nest. They were good
friends. It was springtime and the grasshopper was having a lot of fun
playing, singing, and dancing in the sun. But the ant was hard
working. It was collecting food grains and storing them in its house
for the winter.
The grasshopper did not understand why the ant was doing so much
hard work and keeping for winter. He asked, “Hey,’ Ant! Why don’t
you come outside and play with me?” The ant replied, “I cannot. I am
storing food for the winter when there won’t be anything to eat!” The
grasshopper only laughed at the ant and said, “Why are you worrying
now? There is plenty of food!” and continued to play, while the ant
worked hard.
When winter came, the grasshopper did not find a single grain of food
to eat. It began to starve and feel very weak. The grasshopper saw
how the hardworking ant had plenty of food to eat and realized its
foolishness.
