EXHIBIT BUILDING CHECK-IN PROCESS

ALL Exhibit Building projects will be checked-in on SATURDAY, July 20

from 9 am-12 Noon. Judging will start at 12:30 pm,

Procedure will be:

1. Take your General Record Sheet to the Show Barn. Remember, you only need one (1) record sheet regardless of the number of non-livestock

projects you are exhibiting.

2. Verify which exhibit(s) you brought to be judged. (You indicated in

FairEntry that was due June 28 but now we need to know what you actually finished.)

3. After verification of exhibits you may take exhibits and proceed to check-in the Ex-

hibit Building at the normal judging stations.

Then on Sunday, July 21 starting at 1:00 pm we ask that you come back and help re-set the Exhibit Building and beautify it for the general public when the Fair Officially

opens on July 23. Please contact us if you have any questions.

Fair Entry A special note about Fair Entry project descriptions: You DO NOT need to enter a description of your pro-ject in Fair Entry, just the level or division. If you are unsure of what you will be exhibiting in projects like Photography (collection of photographs or salon print, etc.) or Crafts (needlework or fine arts, etc.), please sign up for any you MAY want to exhibit to insure your exhibit is entered for the fair. Exhibit limits for each project will still be in effect, but it is better to be enrolled and not exhibit than bring an exhibit that you have not enrolled. Please contact the Extension Office with any questions.

Thank you very much Plant Sale Workers! Thank you so much to the 4-H Members, 4-H Parents, 4-H Leaders and 4-H Board members who worked at the 4-H Plant Sale. This fund raiser is currently the second highest grossing fund raiser for the 4-H Program each year. This year we sold: 7650 Geranium Plants; 1368 Vegetable Plants; 930 Hanging Baskets; 320 Gerbera Daisies and 280 Planters!! There were over 414 custom-ers. Thank you for all your work!!

Drive your 4-H Pride! Choosing an 4-H license plate for your vehicle is an easy way to show your 4-H pride and support the 4-H program. Every branch of the BMV carries the $40 plate, and $25 of your purchase goes di-rectly back to 4-H. The county where you purchase your plate will get $10 for its 4-H programs. The remaining $15 will help the Indiana 4-H Foundation provide scholarships for 4-H youth across the state and grants for county programs. Over the years, these funds have helped purchase robotics kits, support Junior Leader activities, and send young 4-H youth to Round-Up. Last year, the 4-H license plate program brought in $46,000, with just under 2000 plates sold. The 4-H plate, which displays the green clover, can be purchased for passenger cars, trucks up to 11,000 pounds, motorcycles, and even recreational vehicles. So go for the clover! Show your 4-H pride by supporting the leadership program that made a difference in your life. Buy your 4-H license plate directly from the BMV or online today.

Last Chance for Trophies There are still some trophies and awards unsponsored. Cost varies from $2.00 for Honor Class ribbons to $30.00 for livestock banners. Call Barb Thuma if you are interested in sponsoring a trophy or award.

Fair Set Up – Important All parents, leaders and 4-H’ers - your help is needed. July 19, 6:00 P.M. Exhibit Buildings need to be arranged with tables, chairs, display boxes, poster racks, etc. Every club is required to send a minimum of four people to help with set up and clean up. (approx. 1 1/2 hours). Bring buckets, cloths, etc. Please let Samm know if you can bring a power washer.

Fair Clean Up For All Buildings Clean up will be July 29 starting at 8:00 a.m. for the Exhibit Buildings. Livestock clean up will follow the Livestock Auction. EVERYONE’S help is needed. The more people that help the quicker it gets done.

Large Exhibits Please notify the Extension Office by June 28 if you expect to have a large exhibit where rules allow (Home Environment, Woodworking, etc.). This will allow us to make sure we have the needed space.

Judging 4-H Members are welcome and encouraged to be present during the project judging. Parents should refrain from contact with the judges. If your child can not be there for judging, comments will be put on the scorecard for later viewing.

Poster Rule

Think of a poster like a dollar bill. You read the dollar horizontally and a poster should be the same way. All posters must have a thin hard back to make them stand when placed on the poster racks and post-ers must be covered with plastic. Your project will be lowered one grade at judging if it is not displayed in the correct position. Please use thin material for backing such as paneling, plywood or thin Styrofoam board, 1/4" or less in thickness. Posters should be less than 1/2" thick overall.

NOTE: Your poster MUST include a label. This 2" x 4" label is usually placed in the lower right corner. The label should include Name, Club, Current Grade and Division or Level. See sample label in Rule Book. Please refer to the Allen County 4-H Rule Book for additional details. Be sure to use a 22” x 28” poster.

IMPORTANT INFO for Posters, Notebooks, and Display Boards

All posters, notebooks, and display boards must include a reference list indicating where information was obtained, giving credit to the original author, to complete the 4-H member’s exhibit. This reference list should/might include web site links, people and professionals interviewed, books, magazines, etc. It is recommended this reference list be attached to the back of a poster or display board, be the last page of a notebook, or included as part of the dis-play visible to the public. A judge is not to discredit an exhibit for the manner in which references are listed.

Vet Checks

Reminder that you do not need to have health papers if the animals you are exhibiting are coming from a farm in Indiana. However, animals that are not healthy or exhibit signs of illness should not be brought to the fairgrounds – leave them at home.

Animal Liability

Reminder that owners of any animals at the Fair are responsible for any/all damage that the animal may do to other fair visitors or buildings. Take extreme caution when moving or working with your animals at all times. Make sure that they are properly fed/watered and have clean pens/stalls.

2019 Executive Livestock Committees Who makes the decisions for rules/awards/judges/workshops for your livestock project? An Executive Committee for each livestock specie (except horse & llama) of up to four adults and two 4-H’ers (4-H’ers must have 3 years of project work in that specie), are elected at the fair. Only current 4-H members enrolled in the project may vote. Any 4-H Volunteer or 4-H’er wishing to have their name on the ballot should notify Barb Thuma and complete a bio sheet and return it to the Extension Office by July 12. We need people to get involved with solutions that benefit everyone. These committees will be re-sponsible for the rules, awards, workshops and exhibit of their spe-cie. Nominees not elected will be listed as resource leaders. Elec-tions, if needed, will occur at the project check-in or weigh in.

Overnight Stay In Livestock/Horse Barns

To be allowed to stay overnight in the livestock/horse barns is a privi-lege. To abuse the privilege will mean a loss of all 4-H awards and re-moval of exhibits from the County Fair. The Board STRONGLY encour-ages parents of members staying to also plan to stay. To stay overnight in the livestock barns, the following must happen: 1. One adult must be present for every 5 livestock members/per specie. 2. Members must have an animal on the grounds. 3. A parent/guardian signed permission slip must be turned in to the

livestock fair office no later than 4:00 p.m. the day you plan to stay. 4. Members selected to stay overnight must meet in the Farm Bureau

Show Barn at 10:00 p.m. or as soon after a show is completed if still in progress at 10:00 p.m. Horse & Pony meet at the Show Ring.

5. Members selected must wear the appropriate wrist band. Others will be asked to leave. Members must stay in the livestock areas of the fairgrounds.

6. Quiet time is from midnight until 6:00 a.m. Members will be ex pected to help clean up the barns, help keep animals in their stall/pens, and whatever else might need to be done.
