One afternoon this spring, Harmony House took a phone call from a Good Samaritan in a neighborhood on Chicago’s west side. Otis had found a cardboard box with kittens in it in a church parking lot down the block from where he lived and had spent all afternoon calling shelters and rescues to see if any of them could take the kittens in. An animal lover with few resources, Otis wanted to know that these two kittens would go to a safe place that would give them a chance to thrive. Many groups told him that they were full, and others asked for an intake donation that he simply didn’t have. Thanks to your generous support of Harmony House, we were able to waive the intake fees for these two four-week-old kittens and pick them up from Otis that afternoon. Kittens Otis (named for both the Chicago Fire character and the man who found him) and Severide are thriving in their Harmony House foster home and will be ready for adoption later this summer. A week later, we became aware of a traumatized cat at an open-access shelter. This three year old owner-surrendered cat was so distraught at losing her home that the shelter staff could not handle her at all, despite their best efforts. This meant that she was not eligible for the adoption program at that shelter. The shelter’s volunteers put out a plea for a rescue to transfer Stella Kidd and give her the second chance every cat deserves. We were able to transfer Stella into our care and watch her blossom overnight into the sweet, loving cat that she must have been in her original home. While we are sure her original family was devastated to have to give her up, we are looking forward to introducing Stella to hew new family. Your support of Harmony House makes these second chances possible. Without the generous support of our donors, the many hours given by our volunteers, and the tireless dedication of our staff, our work would not be possible. Any amount you are able to give will make us able to rescue the next Otis, Severide, and Stella Kidd, giving second chances o more cats and helping contribute to a more humane Chicago. With heartfelt thanks, Ann Dieter, President Harmony House for Cats

Hey guys! I just wanted to let you all know that Winny,

Major Winchester, Winchester, Winfred, or Mr. Winchester

(all the names we call him by) is loving his new home! He

has done a complete 180 since coming home. He is a super

affectionate kitty who loves jumping into our bed at night and

sleeping right between Noah and I lol! Winny is such a sweet-

heart and even though it breaks my heart he wasn’t adopted

sooner we are so lucky to have crossed paths with him. We

love him so much and want to thank you guys for all you do.

Hi! I wanted to reach out to share a Tales from Home. My fiance and I adopted Sauce two months ago and she has completely changed our lives. We couldn’t be a happier little family and we are so thankful to Harmony House for bringing our Saucy girl into our lives. Sauce is utterly obsessed with playing chase the bouncy ball and is completely uninterested in any other toy I have brought home. At any given time you will find 15 bouncy balls scattered around our apartment. She is happy to plop her 14 pounds down on your chest at any time and wake you up with an adorable little meow at 5:00 am to demand pets. She is super smart and friendly and just a joy to be around. Thank you.

Hello Harmony House!

I attached some pictures of Sweet Potato and Baby Back since I know they were so loved there! They seemed to have transitioned really well and enjoy playing with each other and cuddling with me. Thanks again for taking such great care of them over the past months and for the goody bag :)

Best, Tara

Paws for CelebrationIt was a night to remember at Ridgemoor Country Club. We are so grateful to Natalie Bomke from Fox 32 Chicago for promoting the fundraiser, Mark Botoske who assisted with raffle sales and drawings, event sponsor Portage Park Animal Hospital, Leo Neumann who solicited wine for our cocktail hour, and Mike Vesper for coordinating all our audio needs. Behind the scenes of Paws for Celebration are dozens of dedicated volunteers soliciting auction items, designing gift baskets, entering descriptions in our auction database, tagging auction items, scheduling volunteers, setting up and working the event. Thank you to all of them, plus our fabulous auction donors, Paws for Celebration guests, and Ad Book advertisers. Kudos to Pat Vesper, Christy Freeman and Kat FitzPatrick for assembling and designing the 2019 Ad Book. Furry hugs to Ann Dieter Pat Vesper and Marla Gutknecht for coordinating Paws for Celebration.
