God’s Offer Is Life Or Death
Isn’t it great to have choices? What to eat for lunch? What to wear to
work? What mode of transportaon shall I use? What direcon do I want my life to
take? Shall I become a follower of Jesus and if so how devoted do I choose to be?
How seriously do I take my decision? You add your own quesons to the list.
The word Deuteronomy means second law or repeon of the law and, as
you know, it is the name of the last book in the Pentateuch i.e. the first five books
of the Old Testament. Moses was its author (see 1:1,5; 31:9, 22, 24). Numerous
other Old Testament sources agree such as 1 Kings 2:3; 8:53; 11Kings 14:6; 18:12.
Jesus also a8ributed the book to Moses (Ma8. 19:7-8; Mark 10:3-5; John 5:46-47)
as well as did other New Testament writers (Acts 3:22-23; 7:37-38 and Romans
10:19).
Moses, that great leader and lawgiver,
said to the fellow Jews of his day:
“This day I call heaven and earth as wit-
nesses against you that I have set be-
fore you life and death, blessings and
curses. Now choose life so that you and
your children may live and that you may
love the Lord your God, listen to his
voice and hold fast to him. For the Lord
is your life and he will give you many
years in the land he swore to give to
your father, Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.”
Deuteronomy
30:19-20
Thankfully, God always give us choices.
I pray that He will also help us to make right
choices so that we by His grace may live with
Him forever. Walter
