Path to the Pantry Elk Sentinel July 2019

It’s not too late to buy a raffle ticket for the exquisite elk-themed quilt crafted by one of the North County Food Pan-try’s regular volunteers. Proceeds from the sale of tickets sup-port our work to feed hungry families in our neighborhood. Tickets are $1 each or 6 for $5 and can be purchased at the Food Pantry until July 8th, when the winning ticket will be drawn. The quilt is a work of art, and no doubt will be a treas-ure for the lucky winner.

GardenFest this year was a huge success! Over 60 people visited the event and took home a wide variety of vegetables and herbs...everything from tomatoes and eggplants to basil and red peppers. Most of the plants were started in our own greenhouse, others were donated. Morgan thrilled the chil-dren with whimsical face painting, Norman donated kites, Riverside Market provided hot dogs, and Second Harvest brought their Blender Bike (making smoothies with human power!) The Youth Group from Chattaroy Community Church was busy grilling hot dogs, assembling kites, and helping little ones launch theirs on a perfect for kite flying.

The faithful and hard-working garden volunteers have been busy for months and will continue to be busy through final harvest in late October. We cannot thank these people enough for all they do to assure that local families have access to healthy, fresh produce throughout the summer and fall. (Last year, volunteers harvested over 2 TONS of produce from our garden for Pantry clients!)

The Pantry’s shelves are well stocked this summer, thanks to the generosity of friends and neigh-bors. Typically, inventory is thin in late spring and summer, but not this year! There is no reason for people in our community to go hungry when emergency food is so readily availa-ble. We promise to welcome and

serve with kindness those who need assistance in Zip Codes 99003, 99009, and those in 99156 who reside in Spokane County. Please don’t hesitate to visit us on Mondays from 11-2 and on Wednesdays from 9-noon, or the second and fourth Wednesday evenings of the month from 6-8.
