Summer Volunteers Needed at St. John Food Bank!! It’s the time of the year when many folks are planning events or leaving town during the summer months. This leaves us with a dire need to bring in summer help. It is also the time when our client base starts to increase, for pretty much the remainder of the year. This is an annual occurrence; and for many years we have struggled to find volunteers to help respond to this need. It appears that increased summer activities and vacations have consumed so much of our children’s time. It is to the point where they have little extra time to do anything other than their loaded schedules. Here at the food bank we are struggling for volunteers (both children and adults), and we have been for most of this year. Yet we are still serving around 200 families each week and al-though the need is still there; the volunteer help is at a shortfall. Volunteering at the food bank is an alternative to the commit-ment of organized sports. It is a whole different perspective, where you give some time to help struggling folks receive much needed food. We do not feed the homeless; there are two agencies in town (OUR Center and HOPE) that concentrate on this demographic. We feed families! We monitor the length of time our clients are receiving food, and work with them to move forward to become self-sustaining. It is not self-serving; it is helping the poor in our midst. This is a work of Mercy. Our Food Bank is open on Tuesdays, Wednes-days and Thursdays. We need adults and children over 10 years in age. Give some time to the Lord to help those in need. The Lord will return your generosity! Please call 303-678-1469 to volunteer or for more information. John Williams

Pastor’s Corner The gospel for Sunday reveals the challenges Jesus faced in his ministry, and the great demands he puts on discipleship. On their way to Jerusalem Jesus and the Apostles traveled through Samaria (a region of people related to, but at odds with, the Jews of the day). They were not welcome in the town because the destination of their journey was Jerusalem. Jesus' ministry of reconciliation and healing was rejected. Jesus then faced the response of James and John - their outrage at the rejection, and their desire to smite the Samaritans because of it. Jesus faced great challenges in his ministry, as shown in the gospel (rejection, homelessness, and the demands of single-mindedness of purpose) but did not modify the good news because of it; he steadfastly lived the faith even through the difficulties, challenges, and rejections. This week we ourselves will experience a number of challenges living the faith. Keep your eyes on Jesus in the midst of them. Remember his single-minded focus and willingness to sacrifice. Be assured of my prayers for you as you do your best to live the faith handed on to us. I'm very excited to be here among you as your new pastor. I will be sharing more about myself in the homilies this weekend and in the coming weeks. Please pray for me. Fr. Jim

IMPORTANT INFORMATION IF YOU ARE BEING ADMITTED TO THE HOSPITAL: When being admitted to the hospital you are typically asked if you would like a clergy visit. Please say “Yes”, in order for someone from the Catholic Church to be able to bring you Holy Communion, or pray with you. It does not mean that you want a priest to visit you. We have Eucharistic Ministers from St. Francis of Assisi and St. John’s who bring Communion to the hospital every day of the week. If you are admitted through the ER, you might not be asked about a visit from your church, please let them know that YES, you would like a Communion visit.

MY CHILD TAKES ART, KARATE, DANCE, SCOUTS, AND VIOLIN LESSONS. WE DON’T HAVE TIME TO KEEP COMING TO RE, WE ARE WAY TOO BUSY! WHY DO WE HAVE TO KEEP COMING SINCE SHE HAS ALREADY RECEIVED FIRST COMMUNION & CONFIRMATION? Yes, we know that your family can be busy; however, we truly hope your child will continue their religious education long after receiving the sacraments. Your/their faith is a life-long learning process! Set some faith priorities!

A Smile –Jill: Bill, are you an only child? Bill: No I used to be twins. Jill: When were you twins? Bill: My father has a picture of me when I was two.

CATHOLIC RADIO – 1060 am – KRCN – “Change your station, change your life.” A great topic on “Take 2 With Jerry & Debbie” on 6/18 was, ‘What is you favorite Catholic book?”

TILLIE & MAIZEY – As Tillie was walking to Maizey’s house, a large grey cat began to follow her. She tried shooing it away; but it would stop, then start following her again. It would come close to her, then back away. It was starting to make Tillie mad, she stomped her foot and yelled, “Stop following me!” It just looked at her, and just kept right on following her.

RE CHALLENGE – Do we keep following Jesus no matter what happens? He never tries to shoo us away, in fact He keeps calling to us, “Come follow me.” How do you follow Jesus?

My childhood is full of memories of my dad... in the garage listening to the ball game while working on one of our cars, doing maintenance on the lawnmower or fixing one

of our bikes with a flashlight in his hand. As I got older, the challenges changed but just like my bike I’d bring my brokenness to my Dad and he always was able to make the problems shrink in size. All of us counted on Dad. I contacted The Catholic Foundation and set up a Donor Advised Fund as a memorial to him. I invite you to have a conversation with our Legacy partner The Catholic Foundation at 303-468-9885; to discover all the options available in Gift planning.www.TheCatholicFoundation.com.
